  • In this episode we chat about the make-up of the squad selected for the US tour, with many young players involved, plus imminent arrival of Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori with reports over the weekend saying the agreement is basically complete. What does that mean for some of the other players in the squad? We also discuss stories surrounding Emile Smith Rowe whose future isn't as black and white as it might seem. Then we answer listener questions about Chido Obi-Martin which expands into a conversation about how Arsenal are perceived as a club with regards young players, a back three for next season, the US tour and the games we play there, and lots more.

    Calafiori's song next season :
    Calafiori dreamin'
    On such a winner's day
    Stepped onto the pitch
He's come a long long way
Well, he picked up the ball
    And he began to play
You know he's been brought to the fold
    He knows he's gonna stay
    Calafiori dreamin'
    On such a winner's day

Surely if we're talking about the most handsome Arsenal players, Ben White deserves a shout in the current team. You often mention his golden thighs, so I thought a good new song for him could be: 'I kissed Ben White, and I liked it, the taste of his cherry chapstick...' like the famous Katy Perry song.

Calafiori is the opposite of Gabriel.
Gabriel takes ages to get the ball moving, indecisive or a tactic I'm not sure, but it often means everyone moving up the pitch, players losing their free space, their back line going backwards and cutting off our chances of an early run in behind.
Calafiori really gets the ball moving (I watched a very long compilation video). If he sees a player in Saka's position he gets the ball out there at the earliest opportunity. He runs forward like Rice and pushes through the midfield before the opposition get a chance to fall back and restrict space.

FWIW I said I'd sell Tomiyasu several months ago, just as I wanted to sell Tierney several years ago (actually I didn't want to sign Tierney); I rate both players, particularly Tomiyasu, but we can't keep signing or holding on to these injury-prone players just because "... *IF* he can stay fit/get past these injuries...". It keeps biting us in the arse and yet we keep doing it and some fans seem to keep backing it.
Tomiyasu and Smith Rowe both need to go before their value drops. Even if someone is getting a discount for taking a punt on them. Zinchenko and probably Jesus should be nudged out, too, with injury question marks and contracts running down. It's probably too late for Partey. Who knows what's going on with Vieira.
I understand that it isn't easy to shift these types of players but I feel incredibly strongly that we need to do much better at it.

*ESR is possibly my favourite player in the squad. I've been following his career since he was about 14 and I was watching academy games regularly. He's basically the second coming of super Jack for me.

I'd say give them one more year, but that's me speaking as a fan. If I was the manager, you'd have to look at other options. Which is why we're buying another defender

Barcelona!!! They are extremely hostile to tourists there and seen things that are actually physical assault. Glad your family is doing well. But I would give that place a swerve.

If you develop a youth player and they leave for nothing than you don’t have a chance to get them to the first team or sell them for a profit. Other teams have sold youth players for good profits which we are missing out on this.
