My wife commented to you yesterday while I was in the process of installing and wiring this router. I admit I’m a weekend electrician and know just barely enough to be dangerous. And while I didn’t splice the wires, nor would ever do this, I had to look at your video several times to process how I was going to correctly make the switch work. First of all, I think you were brilliant to attach the switch to the router-which I also did. This makes so much sense. Then it took some doing for me to configure the switch wiring but it all works perfectly. Too bad the Winegard manual hasn’t linked your video. Kudos to you and thank you.
Man thank you very much. I am so pleased with your instructions. I hadn’t done any electrical since shop class in the 70’s. Was thinking about paying to have it done until I watched your video. Fantastic!!!
This was the first video I researched for instructions for installing a new system into our Prowler 292SRK camper! Pretty cut and dry install instructions! 😎👍
Just browsing RUclips looking for 360+ hook up instructions and found you. We recently bought 2023 290RLS, and I'm looking forward to seeing some of your videos on mods and improvements.
Thank you so much for the walk-thru steps!!! Was under the impression the Winegard cover was the 4G device… 🤦♂️ Didn’t realize I had to purchase something else. Oh well… gotta have it. Now I understand what to do, and what’s needed to complete the job.
Thanks for the great step-by-step instructions and the switch hack!!! Of course my install wasn't as easy as yours. When I took the cap off on the ceiling, the RV power wire was the only thing attached to the loosely fastened zip tie. I had to fashion a wire coat hanger with a small magnet on the end to fish out the WiFi wires. Besides using t-tap connectors to splice the wires, I followed everything you did which made it super easy to install
Awesome! Lol… I have used ttaps on other projects… best to use it. Just giving alternatives. Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to leave a feedback. Really appreciate it. Glad the video helped you out. Thank you again
Great video! I also have the 290RLS. Love it! I have a hotspot that is connected to the Wineguard that connects to my devices. A bit less cost than buying the Wineguard plan.
Thank you very much Tom for watching and feedback! I have uploaded a handful videos of my cougar 290 RLS. EMS - surge protection - how to winterize. Thanks again- if you have a YT channel. Let me know… will check it out.
Thanks, Charlie. No channel, just a subscriber. I've seen some of your videos relating to the Cougar. My next project is to install the rear view camera. I have both side cameras installed but every time it comes to drilling the large hole for the rear, I chicken out! Maybe next trip! Tom
Mr.Batilo. Thank You!! As before you are my inspiration to DIY. I had the same idea about the switch in which I didn't want to start adding more holes in the NEW RV. So, I especially liked your approach to the switch on the unit. Like I said you rock. I enjoy my RV Cougar a lot. No matter how big or small they are, they are well built RV's compared to others. However, check out slider rollers that go under your slider. Easy to install but it's the only design flaw cougar had. See you tube videos on slider failure. You will be interested on this. Again, thanks. Please continue to show your RV upgrades.
Great tutorial, well done! On the wire connection to the RV you could also just cut that power wire that's looping through there and use a couple 3-wire wago connectors for something that won't wiggle free. That switch location is a great idea too. Thanks.
Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to leave a feedback. I really appreciate it. Really happy the video helped! Awesome job completing your project
Thank you for you detailed video, as the Gateway owner's manual is a bit complicated to understand. Installing the switch into the Gateway is a great idea. Thanks for illuminating much frustrating.
Seen a couple other Gateway install videos..glad I watched this one too for the tape tip, and the switch placement (brilliant!). Dunno why Winegard doesn’t manufacture it with the switch in the unit like that… Was really not looking forward to cutting a ceiling hole for the switch and doing finicky crimping work standing on my tippy toes…
thanks for the instal, I ordered mine and the instal was nice. I do have a problem. It would drop the hot spot every now and then for no reason. Did you ever encounter this?
I’m almost sure it is. If you have a multi meter… here is a trick.. you can test/find out. On the multi meter.. see which wire is +. Connect it to the red wire of your RV… if the multi meter does not have a - / negative symbol… red is positive. Reverse it.. you will see negative symbol if the positive probe of the multimeter is connected to the negative
Hey Charlie, I installed the same unit in my 290RLS. I use it for internet and some TV. Question: Do you use the external cable connector for tv? I have a dish and have been unable to use that connection. Ran the cable through the back window temporarily until I find a solution. Tom
We installed ours using this method, no complications it turned on. However, it shows our wifi but keeps saying “No internet connection” we have paid the bill for our carrier. Not sure how to fix it?
Thank you!!! I just installed using your instructions!!! Came out perfect!

Does this work in bush areas
Best Winegard Gateway installation! Great visuals and concise instructions. Couldn't be better. Thank you.
Thank you very much for watching and leaving the feedback! Really appreciate it

Great video. Thanks for the step by step. Most thorough video I've seen. Really like the switch location.
Thank you very much for watching and for the really cool feedback! Really appreciate it!

Worked perfectly even the on off switch hack. Thanks!!!

Very helpful video, thank you!
Thank you very much for the feedback! Really appreciate it
Thank you for the help.
Camping world charged me $165. to install Windgrard router into ore wired camper
thanks for the instal, I ordered mine and the instal was nice. I do have a problem. It would drop the hot spot every now and then for no reason. Did you ever encounter this?
Very good and clear.
Did you turn power off before making the splices? Thanks,
Best to disconnect the 12v negative / battery post. You can splice hot but make sure you do not let + and - touch... and the switch is off position.
Thanks my thoughts also!Nowhere in installation manual does it say to cut power before doing this 😮
I have a red with white and an all red one would the all red one be the negative?
I’m almost sure it is. If you have a multi meter… here is a trick.. you can test/find out. On the multi meter.. see which wire is +. Do you have to install the gateway for the winegard to receive over the air channels?
No need to get winegard first OTA TV. The antenna is already wired - check your connections and make sure it’s not in SAT. Plug your coax to TV.
Hey Charlie,
I installed the same unit in my 290RLS. I use it for internet and some TV.
Question: Do you use the external cable connector for tv? I have a dish and have been unable to use that connection. Ran the cable through the back window temporarily until I find a solution.
Tom
Hello Tom, Dish as in Internet Dish? Or TV satellite Dish?
It's the TV satellite Dish. The cable connection it's supposed to attach to doesn't seem to work with satellite.
Thanks, Charlie.
Tom
It would have been nice if you provided the data signals that you now get from using the wineguard..
What size was the green wire you used ? Thank you
Use 12 or 14 awg. I used 12
Thank you so much for the video and the information
Do you need to cut the power to the rv while installing it?
For safety… yes. But no need as long as you can navigate pos and neg to not touch. But best to power down
Can you install a Dish Satellite roof mounted without it affecting this wingard installation… how is that done
Do you need the switch?
There seems to no be any green, red or yellow wire to connect to the back.
What do I do?
Do you have winegard 360 or 360+ on your RV (roof)? If yes… those red, yellow and green wires are directly underneath it. Fish them out…
Do you have an antenna on the roof? A Winegard 360+?
Thank you.
How did it work?
For this switch, it doesn’t matter which spade you use for power. It’d only matter if there was a third terminal.
We installed ours using this method, no complications it turned on. However, it shows our wifi but keeps saying “No internet connection” we have paid the bill for our carrier. Not sure how to fix it?
Is the SIM card confirmed activated? Call your cell provider to confirm it is activated…
Why the tape? It screws to the ceiling.
There was no stud… I screwed it in addition to the tape so it hold better (due to vibration and bumps
