There were / are few Hammond players in Chester's class - Dr Lonnie Smith, Jimmy Smith, Bill Mason, Jimmy McGriff and from the relatively modern era Joey de Francisco, Cory Henry and Barbara Dennerlein - no doubt I've missed a few but this is an elite club few can ever hope to join. Pure brilliance.
He is amazing! He didn't play the Hammond.... he COMMANDED the Hammond.... he DEMANDED from the Hammond. He tamped that Hammond into submission! Just exciting to watch and hear.
The only other B3 player who could hang with the names you've mentioned would be Roger Smith from Tower of Power. The man is an absolute monster player. What a great list of B3'ers. And to Joey D - RIP.
CT is my favorite musician in the whole wide world!!!! NOBODY plays like him NOBODY, the most soulful, jazzy, R&B player that ever touched that B3. I bow to him and thank God for his magic with Santana and Tower of Power and with his trio before all of it (like I said I'm a serious fan/follower of CT) I bow to him and he brought out the best of Carlos and the Horns too. in Gratitude and Peace Nitram
Looking for an interview , here on RUclips, with Chester Thompson and this came up . I swear , Chester Thompson is such an amazing musician, it blows my mind the chemistry he had with Carlos - the subliminal synchronicity they had - just totally Supernatural (pun intended!) . He was the perfect foil for Carlos , the way he embellished the melodies and rhythms. Never get tired of hearing these songs
@@johnnyfannucci Tom Coster wasn‘t a slouch, he just didn‘t fit into the band with his more academic style of playing. Santana needs what I call Latin Rock‘n‘Rollers like Rolie or Thompson.
He's not a vibe killer you cookoo clock. NO SANTANA NO BAND. I've seen santana at least 8 times live, every show was unforgettable. He's just a perfectionist.
how many years after 1970 release and this band digs into this tune - an authoritative version with all sorts of arrangement points & song quotes - compared to vintage Santana |Band, its now an active guitar pickup sound, a way louder kick drum, a lined in Hammond rather than a mic'd one- and still I dig it; CTs hiring, up from the Tower in 1983, was genius

That’s one thing I absolutely hate about Carlos when I’ve seen the band live. He forever points and directs and instructs the other players instead of letting the music flow. He’s a vibe killer on stage. You can see it all throughout the video of the Santana IV reunion a few years back, live in Las Vegas, and you can see it here at 6:06, where he is motioning wildly with his arms for CT to stop and end his solo. (I’d much rather listen to a lengthy CT solo than a typical scripted Carlos solo.) You can’t take anything away from Carlos; he’s a self made man, but that band in those early days should have been called Rolie… as Gregg was the driving force in those days.
@@awaken77 They've practiced, the band know when Chester will finish. There is no way Carlos is telling Chester to finish, he is fanning himself because Chester tops the solo out and it's hot stuff.
shit version just for the singers but great organ solo i saw them live in 2016 it was shit it was that loud it was discomforting even with studio ear plugs i can still say i saw santana and steve miller
It wasn’t “ease up”. Carlos was trying to get his attention for the upcoming transition. CT was clearly deep in the zone with that solo. Probably would’ve gone on for another 5 minutes. I play organ on this song and it’s really easy to lose track of time. So much fun!
You think CT's good *here*? Well then check him out with Tower of Power. Best funk organ player ever. A legend!
Yea, this is not his best side :)
David Matthews, too currently with band was also with Tower,

Well said ! I feel the same way !
Note that facial expression, when Chester glides from Yamaha keyboard to Hammond - that the real thing, not plastic crap 4:29 to 4:33

CT is amazing!! & i agree with all the other comments below. the 19 who gave this a thumbs down must all be Justin Bieber, 1 Direction & Kpop fans!
Chester Thompson: the best thing to ever happen to Carlos Santana.
And vice versa.
What about the guy that started that "other" band. I mean they were pretty smalltime, but ever heard of Journey? lol
@@jimmybuffet4970 I love Journey with Gregg Rolie on keyboard and vocal. Journey was good until Steve Perry ruined the band

CT is so far off the fuckin hook! All the love! You can feel it! CT has always been ridiculous on a Hammond!
I love the way how he do it. Hi didnt copy Greg Rolie solo, but created his own
Yeah ! Check out Carlos how he had to reel Chester back in from that solo..Chester went 5th dimension on him and Carlos could not follow..LOL
CT IS GOD ON THE B3, OR SHOULD BE!!!
7 years and no one is going to mention how jacked up that bass is? Not even in tune for 98% of the song. Horrible...
The greatest HAMMOND player of SANTANA. An incredible player.
definitely a hammond player ! notice the expression on his face, when he changes from that silly keyboard to the hammond ! ;-)
Santana - one of the premier class bands of the 60's and forward. CT is killing it here!
Chester Thompson rulez! 4:30
CT is the man!
Check out the Tower of Power albums with CT
Ebony Jam - In The Slot,.mid 70's.
CHESTER THOMPSON is the HAMMOND God, an incredible player of this fabulous B3 HAMMOND with tonewheels.
Owww Yeah.🤘👌🖤

Saw Santana in Mexico City live, best time I have had.
I love that B3 Chester and Santana how much better can it get Just amazing.
Love Hammond organ sound
CT sweats out Generator-Oil 😂😂😎👍🔊🎹🎹
FABULOUS UNRIVALED HAMMOND B3, a legend, the real one, not copy !
Chester Thompson is insane. You can tell the way that he has been possessed by the music and that he is basically on cruise control.
Chester Thompson feels music and he is very much moved and out of control at the moment of no return
Chester Thompson is moved by music and plays how and wat he feels at that very moment while n the moment. You can tell Luv it Chester.

Y A Y ! .....Carlos,....forever Great! Here for some Hammond organ!......Love it!
The first percussion instrument before drums is Piano. Go C.T. !
Someone call an ambulance while I check to see if the organ still has a pulse. Good Lord! I don't think the organ is going to pull through!
Chester is the effin man. Couple moments there was the absolute. He was holding back.
That Organ had smoke coming from it aftet CT burned up the keys lmaoo Santana is one funky dude love him and his bands and sounds just a Bad man
Santana one of the Greatest ever to put hands on a guitar he can make that guitar talk to you check CT out on that organ smoking man
famous real legendary HAMMOND amazing sound with Leslie cabinet and great Chester Thompson, an HAMMOND master. The amazing SANTANA sound.
He is Carlos Santana……. He doesn’t get his own freaking mic?!
Awesome CT!
Gregg Rolie is one of the best organists (if not the best) of rock '70s.
And, Dennis chamber holding a beat a chewing gum….🎶🎵

Those were the days , I lived for his pure spiritual karma , Incredible energy

Great Chester Thompson!

Awsome!!!
Nice shirt Carlos

Carlos always has the best with him❤️❤️❤️
He needed it.
Great Hammond solo with a phenominal group Santana!
Chester is perfect and the best keyboarder for Santana.
Jürgen Mazerl I though tommy coster was just as cool (Moonflower) album
TC was a better fit for Santana and CT for TOP....
CT is definitely a master but when I hear Santana in my mind I hear Rolie.
Imagine playing Santana every night of the week. For a 9 month tour.
Yah, he probably never had to practice much.
this is best

His waving is to cool down CT's steaming solo . . .
@@tclaessens damn right the guy was on fire he was just coolin him off, complimenting him for sure.

they should communicate somehow when to end the solo, because concert have fixed set-list and there's time for other songs and other players' solo

CT can do it....the best
Holy crap!!!!
Best concert I have ever been too.
Very good
Ohhh shit!!! This guys...... We Will never see something like this any more.... Oh sshhiiitttt!!!!!

CT 🇩🇰
