Here's the raw tracks for anyone who'd like to try mixing this at home! Remember you can watch the mix breakdown and get the mixed tracks on Patreon :) samply.app/p/cteIm1G6t9mUPIuxgVHW
Aww, somehow I deleted my comment about panning doubled track of same take cancelling out each other because same frequency possibilities and your response explained to me. Thank you so much. I really enjoy your duplication of tracks using more readily available techniques for bedroom recording artists. You and others are taking technical innovations making it easier to record in smaller spaces and figuring out for us how to put them to use. Thanks again.
@@tonylewis1803 I'm happy to help my friend!
where can we get that vital preset?
@@jbonillaguitar Check out Vital and go to the strings present, then you can modify based on the settings on screen :) sorry I never made a formal preset!
This is a video worth promoting, RUclips.
If I was RUclips, I would promote this
RUclips DO YOU HEAR THIS MAN
@@AudioHaze @RUclips HEAR ME
@RUclips do you hear this guy?
damn vocals really be the best of this series. i mean everything is great but like.. she NAILED that lizzy impersonation
RIGHTTT, my jaw dropped after we got the first take
The rubber bridge on baritone guitar combo is SO tasty
RIGHT, super proud of that tone
That vocal tone is like butter... and good spot for the mid/side guitar recording. I was really curious as to what they did; when I tried to emulate that recording for this song, it never sounded right
Thanks!! Yeah lots of the vocal tone was really just a great vocal take with lots of air added on parallel sends, and plenty of de-essing. Acoustic tone is such a cool hack too! Gonna start using that electric string hack in my own projects
i teared up during the build just like i did the first several times i heard the original song, which is a testament to your recreation of the song. beautifully well done.
James wow now I'M gonna tear up, these take forever to build and comments like this keep me motivated to keep it going, thank you
How to sound like tame impala in your home studio… may be the hardest one you’ve done yet but one of the best
I'm so down though :) I did a video essay a while back on some of his recording practices, would be fun to apply the principles I outlined there
Yeah man I loved that video! I’ve watched it multiple times. There are lots of people that are obsessed with / wanna-be tame impalas… I’m one of them lo so I will live by the video once you make it 🙏
AudioHaze is happy he studied in the same place as Lizzy McAlpine BUT Lizzy McAlpine can't believe she studied in the same place as Audio "The Goat" Haze.
(Love the Cameo from Mr & Ms Haze) great vid as always :)
HAHAHA, if only lol, thanks dude!!
Hell of a mix at the end. Its so what it calls for. Good job.
Thanks my friend!
Subbed! What a great video I watched to the very end.
Yoooo thanks Andrew! Love your vids as well my friend :)
Wow, thanks so much! So nice to see that Lizzie's sound is starting to be recognised. Pleasure of watching to recreating sounds of the beautiful album and song particularly
Yeah it was a fun one to remake too! I learned a few tricks as well, particularly with the electric guitar strings and combining that with a more traditional acoustic
To be honest she doesn't have a 'sound', it's sort of just taken from Phoebe Bridgers.
@@Alexandros11please try to learn how this sound you meant originated first, it's elliot smith dude
@@Sienna53 I already responded. Phoebe is clearly influenced by ES, but she 100% has her own distinct sound and evolution. Lizzy on five seconds flat doesn’t, it’s just a copy.
@@Alexandros11 did you listened to 'erase me' from fsf, tell me how is it inspired by phoebe, i know you are getting this phoebe sound feeling because of they both used rob moose for strings
I love this series, but this is the first video I have watched like 4 times in a row. I'm a producer working for several young female Indie pop artists and this is so inspiring! And your vocal sound is unbelieveable! Thank you!! Can't wait to see what you're up to next!
Got goosebumps while the strings and the electric guitar where added⚡⚡⚡amazing job!
All the layers in the recording are super cool!
Also the vibra kill is great! Bought one after your phoebe bridgers video. It’s great on electric too.
This is some of the best collected information out there. Never had this many tabs open after a youtube video to subscribe to and buy stuff. THANK YOU! PLEASER NEVER STOP!
AudioHaze is just crazy for these quality rundowns and techniques man, it's crazy
Dude, this is phenomenal. First video I've seen of yours, but def a new subscriber here. And aside from how accurate the song turned out, the video production on this was unreal and you also probably had the most natural 'asking for subs' section that I've seen on YT. first time it didnt make me cringe haha. Keep doing these!
I've waited for this!!!
MIKKEEEE, thanks man glad to see you here!
Haven’t seen anyone going in depth like this on RUclips. Much appreciated ❤
Thanks man!! I love your name lol
Man, the quality of the production is awsome, but also the editing of the video is just so so great. My fav music channel so far.
Damn my friend that means the world, thank you :) the editing definitely gets intense so thanks for mentioning it!
You popped for me out of no where and got a new sub.
So much effort in this, well done man. Amazing job.
i mean even if u don't dig all this mp stuff at all, the vids are just soothing themselves and very nice to watch )) well done
Hahah thanks man! Yeah its nice to see how everything comes together, gives you a bit of an understanding of what's behind a track
As someone who's never heard of Lizzy McAlpine, A/Bing your attempt with Lizzy's original put a smile on my face. Ya'll did the damn thing
check out her new album older, it's so good
Hell yeah thanks man :) Lizzy is cool! The other comment is right definitely check out Older, super good
thank you so much for doing these!
I absolutely feel how much work videos like those are and that it takes A LOT of passion to stick to it. giving all those vids away basically for free is what I love about the youtube community.
all you absolutely nailed it with this one.
Thanks dots! Yeah man, its the love of RUclips content that makes me want to produce valuable stuff for others too :)
This is such awesome awesome content. Thanks so much as always!
Fantastic once again. One nice thing of this new approach is that it's such a nice surprise to see your videos.
hahaha SURPRISE, not sure that's the best for consistency but I'm glad I could be a pleasant surprise
I really enjoy the flow of your content and the amount of detail you go into keeping it easy to follow. Great job on the the end result.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoy it!
Thanks once again for that amazing breakdown! Much love
Much love right back, thanks man!
Banger as always. I think as musicians and artists it's very easy to make excuses for why you can't do something. Thank you for being a constant reminder that you can make great art with what you have available
AHH you have no idea how much that means!! Thats the whole goal of the channel, and to try and say so in a way that doesn't come off as elitist or snobby lol
Amazing as always!!
Thanks!
RUclips actually recommended I watch this video today. I was already subscribed but I hadn't watched this video yet. Love your content!
this was incredibly insightful!! i've always been so fascinated by the production behind Lizzy's songs and using her as one of my artistic inspirations for my songs, thank you so much for this!! you've earned a new subscriber :^)
Welcome to the community my friend! Hope some of the other vids on the channel are just as helpful :)
holy moly! the singer nailed it!! the guitar parts were more interesting than I thought too. no wonder the guitars sounded more "airy" than usual acoustics in the recording. amazing vid!
Lora crushed it!!! And yeah those guitar tones were a breakthrough for me too :)
Killing it, like always! RUclips, you should do your job and promote the hell out of this!
Thanks Sam!!
bro you are an agel to all of us home poducers
i learned a lot from you
still waiting for Joji and D4vd tutorial
+1 for Joji
I'm glad I could help in some way my friend! Joji would be sick, I'll keep that artist in mind :)
Great job!!! For absolute perfection I'd de-click some clicks at the beginning of the vocal parts, and a bit throughout the song too. But the overall mix sounds amazing. I love the rubber bridge idea, that baritone guitar really sounds special.
Idk man if you get paid enough for this, but damn!! Thank you mate, just so you know you inspire a lot of bedroom artist :)
I absolutely love your vids man. especially the mixed/ unmixed examples. I hear a product that I can already get to in the unmixed, and shows that it is possible to take my recordings to a higher point with more work and knowledge. thanks for the killer work.
So true! Yeah I try and peel back the curtains to show that sometimes unprocessed signals are always something to build off of, that not everything will always sound perfect right away
The song came out great!
Thanks man!
Heck yeah, so pumped for this
best channel
Stopppp I'm blushin', thanks you dude!
I’m actually surprised you didn’t use at least free strings sample libraries, but those synth strings had actually a very nice tone surprisingly enough really sounded great overall
I think this highlights how difficult vocal production is. Like it's sooo similar but there's still something that differentiates it from the original. Feels like the original is closer to the listener
This is mental! So grateful for this channel, from recording techniques to mixing ideas you offer a treasury of knowledge, thank you so much!
I'm glad I could help Drew! Thanks for checking the vid out :)
Hey, just commenting to say I love your videos, especially the Phobe Bridgers, Tame Impala, Mac deMarco, Radiohead, Bon Iver and the Hozier ones. I don't know if you take artist suggestions but I'd love to see a video on Lana del Rey, The Strokes or the Arctic Monkeys. Thanks for every video!
Just commenting for the algo, man. Keep it up!
Appreciate it!
Jesus christ, bro. Got my mouth opened with this, like in cartoons. Will share with all my buds here ✨🤎.
Is it too ridiculous to ask for the Ableton file, to study it? I feel I could learn so so much from it. Like dissecting a body in med school. But it's a song, and it happens to be one of your favorite productions. This would be a blessing.
You know... we see so many vids, and learn so much from RUclips. But there is something in actually bypassing and activating a plugin, or a soloing one track... that you can feel the nuance of the choices made. Perhaps that's the most difficult part for people learning on RUclips. We never get to A/B amazing work, that we admire.
I don't expect you to release the Ableton file, but if you do, I couldn't thank you enough. I actually do have all plugins you used
Regardless, keep up the amazing work. You certainly shine a bit through our songs on Spotify, as our teachers do. You’re part of it somehow.
Thanks Gabriel! Unfortunately I'm not too sure how helpful releasing the Ableton file would be because a lot of the plug ins are 3rd party :/ that said, the mixed files on Patreon are essentially the same thing! Just without he ability to look at the plugins. Which hopefully the mix tutorials help supplement
Dude! I've been waiting for this video for soooo long!
Enjoy my friend!! Hope it lives up to expectations :)
You have been consistent in producing absolute gold content!
Thanks man!! Trying our best out here :)
Oh my gosh.... thank you SO much i just got this channel recommended to me and I'm so glad.
Worth the wait my dude! ✌️❤️
Thanks man!
Your parents FaceTiming you because they got your merch is awesome!
brilliant. i am absolutely loving these videos man. thank you so much for making them! you're so good at capturing the feeling and the essence of the original rather than just copying the sound. can't wait to see more!
Yeah that's a big part of it! I always brief the artists before performing that we're trying to honor the original performance rather than making it out own (which of course there's nothing wrong with), so we all try and match the feel as well :)
I know nothing of music technicalities all I know is that this is hella awesome
this has to be the most accurate recreation yet. wow
Definitely a close one! Probably a lot to do with Lora's vocal being so strong, made my life SO easy
My favorite channel on RUclips and it’s not even close
I'm gonna cry thank you so much holy shit
jesus i really love the unmixed vocal 21:28
Yeah Lora sounded amazing without any processing at all :)
Omg I’ve waited for this video from you for so long! Thank you for your amazing videos as always
Hope it delivers my friend! Thanks for checking it out :)
INCREDIBLE work on this video. I'm constantly amazed by you! Thank you for letting me be a part of it (:
Thank YOU for crushing that vocal and making my job 1000x easier!!
Wonderful way to start my day. Showing the unmixed sections gives beginning home-recording musicians hope that their crusty vocals and dry instruments can be polished into something beautiful. Thanks man
Happy I could show that my friend! Its so true though, a pro studio just isn't necessary anymore
YESSSS I have been waiting for this one thankyouuu
This is masterful and I could not be more thankful. You have all my likes and subscribes. I’d subscribe twice if I could.
Everyone trying to sound like Phoebe now 😅 Love your vids. always learn a lot from them. Thank you.
Glad to help my friend!! I do think Lizzy and Phoebe have some distinctions in their style though :)
I was shocked when Lizzy opened the video! 😅
(I didn't know she started on RUclips but it does make a lot of sense!)
HAHA that was the goal, freak everyone out for a second lol
Beautiful mix, nice detail and dynamics
this channel never ceases to amaze...
You're too kind!
Awesome how you get into so much detail! Been waiting for the video since you put out the song on your haze sessions channel. Excellent work!
Thanks Sonny!! Yeah this one fell together quite well, lots to do with having such a strong vocal
Definitely! Vocals are so creamy! Keep on doing what you do! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Great video thanks, love your work.
The production on 5 Seconds Flat was a big inspiration of the last EP I produced.
Glad I could help you get a little closer then!
A video that I didn't know I need it. Awesome man 🤓
Yayyy, thanks my friend!
Tip. Electric strings are cool on an electric. However, the unwound g string causes intonation problems. Which may not be a problem in first position. But if you put a wound string on it makes a huge difference. You can verify this by checking the fretted 12th fret against the open string. Wound strings are available in .018 size. Maybe lower
I'll check that out! Definitely a good point, I've had the electric strings on my Taylor for a couple weeks now and really enjoy it, been playing things I haven't thought of before
@@AudioHaze yes. The light gauge strings on an acoustic can be very cool
You should totally do how to sound like D’Angelo!
Appreciate the content very much, man!
Yeah that's a good one, I'll see if there's anything to find!
Love the mixed vs unmixed comparisons. Great video.
Your videos are gold, thank you for sharing all these infos and for the work you put into this!
Appreciate it my friend, glad I could help!
Thanks for reminding me to do the user engagement - I always watch and am subscribed but often forget to like and comment to boost it. You’re worth boosting, so I’m happy to help the algorithm and just forget to do it!!
Thanks man, that means a lot! So honored to have such a supportive community and cool members like yourself
Best audio engineer on RUclips back again
AHHH no way I'm the best but thank you anyways haha!
this is crazy... SO GOOD
I love your recording knowledge I just wish I had the skills and dedication to finish writing songs so I can actually out your advice into practice. Also I think a discord of this community would have so much value. Best wishes
It gets easier!! The first projects always seem the most tedious, but with time the creative gears begin to turn more easily, you got this, its just about consistency. Skill will follow :) And there is a discord! I'm just not active on it, I'm sorry. Here it is: discord.gg/4nCvfjv9Dc
Amazing video... loved the end result. Only thing I noticed is the snare has more body in the chorus in the actual song (towards the end), like if they were layering another sample as well on top as well.
Nice! Yeah beefing up the snare wouldn't be too hard, probably some juice in the lower midrange could help a lot :)
Dude!!! This is crazy good. The vocalist also did a fantastic job
RUclips! This video deserves to be promoted ASAP ❤
Three weeks later, it's still very worth promoting!
the way you're able to deep dive an artist and deliver is so insane brother
Thanks Noah! Deep diving isn't too hard once you get used to it :) lots of other internet sleuths who've put in work I can use to help!
Haven't seen this in the comments but based off of my research I'm pretty sure one of the vocal mics they used in the original tracks is an ADK V-67 Custom. I don't know for sure, but that silver badge on the back is something I've only ever seen on ADK mics.
For reference, I came to this conclusion after watching her vlogs during the creation process. I guess I have no idea if that was the mic on Ceilings necessarily, but I'm almost certain it was used somewhere in the album. ADK makes some really slept on mics that are crazy useful.
Knew it would be crazy good as soon as I heard the first guitar tracking
Yeah I'm proud of those guitars! Such a cool trick to distinguish the tone across the stereo image
@@AudioHaze can’t wait to try this technique for myself! Thanks for showing us your work
I love this series because I'm a DAW guy and never record live instruments. So much insight here, very worth promoting.
Thanks man! Yeah I try and stay away from teaching through the DAW in this application, I'd rather people understand how the concept can relate to any software than be too software specific :) thanks for checking out the vid my friend!
i got goosebumps, this is amazing
Thanks so much!
This would be a super challenging one, but a Mk Gee recreation would be sickkkkkkk
AGREED AND AGREED
so glad y'all are doing a part 2 to your "how to sound like phoebe bridgers" series 🥰
(this is a joke, pls don't get mad. lizzy is great)
HAHAHA, to be fair the overwhelming people who are requesting a Lizzy McAlpine video probably came from the Phoebe vid
Another great video bro!
LOVE this! That Lizzy impersonation was out of this world.
I KNOW RIGHT, I was shell shocked after her first take
Man, you seem like such a lovely and genuine person. It hurts my brain how long this video must've taken! Thank you so much for making it. W x
Thanks dude!! They always take a long time, but thankfully this wasn't nearly as intense as the Rage Against the Machine video haha! Thanks for checking it out :)
Oh, another free Masterclass. Thank you!
hahaha you're welcome!
You are very smart with this style of content. Good job sir
Thanks my friend!
Such a good job man! Really enjoyed this.
Thanks Luke!
I can't imagine how much time these take---thank you!! No one is doing what you're doing.
You're welcome, thanks for watching! They're definitely intense but the audience reaction is well worth it :)
Yet another banger video! That outro hit HARD, looking forward to more of these! Till then, I’m definitely going to continue using that vibrakill hack (I got it from the phoebe vid and it seems to find its way into a lot of my recordings 🧐)
Thanks my friend!! Right??? That vibrakill is so fun and genuinely applicable in so many scenarios
This is a video worth promoting!
I wanna see your process of mixing that J 45 it sounded awesome
I love this channel so much. I’m planning on creating my first home studio and you videos makes it feel so accessible!
Wouldn't have it any other way!! Trying my best to make it seem less intimidating without any hints of elitism, lots of elitism in audio production unfortunately :(
