I have struggled with Cubase for the last 8 years, having mastered the early versions in the early 90's which were very intuitive. The Modern version is difficult if you have had time out of about 20 years and coming back to it is not easy. This Tutorial is by far the best i have found but has one weakness. It does not tell you how to set up playback. I followed the instructions but couldn't hear a thing. I had a similar problem with elements and artist. I am contemplating moving up to Pro after the 30 day trial but will only do so if I can solve this playback issue. Oddly, if I imported my own song to Cubase from Zoom R24 (wav) or a midi file it played back with no problems. My Zoom has a USB setting which works for youtube playback and it's own mixer which works for youtube playback but for some reason it won't playback my Cubase composition. Having read various Forums there are other people out there with similar frustrations and while it may be nice to use a DAW for recording original material the old Multitrack method of recording is so much easier and those machines from Zoom, and Tascam and others are still going strong. Thanks for the upload, very helpful but needs some instruction on setting up the sound system before diving in.

@@Borntoproduce Thanks for getting back and providing the link. Good to say I am now getting sound out. That said I'm making some progress and thanks for kick starting me but that program has so many options and screens that I just wish someone would produce something like the Atari Notator programs which were both easy and effective.I suspect that many of the modern day programmers are losing their audience by over complicating things and including features that many people will not use at all. I applaud what you are doing though and I'm sure some people will get to grips with this monster of a program. Cubase is even more frustrating when you consider the way they price things in favour of newbies and stop supporting versions to force us to pay up several times for the same programs. I've gone from early Atari to Sibelius on an Acorn and back to Cubase on PC's so have spent an incredible amount over the years while my Multi tracks have been going strong for years and bringing me some income from my home recordings. Keep up the great work you are doing.
@@pmadamson I've had issues with playback as well, to me it seems like the problem is that the typical "home PC" setup has one shared output sound device shared across the whole windows/mac, while CuBase expects a separate reserved output device - which is probably more common in a "studio setup". This is a problem when you both want to listen to the tutorials and play with CuBase at the same time. What works for me is to setup a different output sound device in windows (maybe you can use your monitor/screen as a output sound device?), and reserve the "good" sound device for CuBase. Hopes this helps someone.
@@pmadamson I _TOTALLY_ get what you mean about the newer cubases not feeling intuitive. Actually, few daws seem to work as intuitively as the old cubase version to me (although I never tried logic because I'm a PC user). My preference for the old cubase goes so far that till a few months ago I still used the last version of cubase vst 32, even though it was quite a challenge to get it to work on windows 10 and although the sound quality is inferior. However, since I do cubase most for the idea and composition part about it, it was most important that I liked working on it. Mos software would run on it just fine (even huge 64 bit kontakt libraries when using J-bridge to get around the memory limitations) Now I'm trying to learn the newer cubase and it feels quite annoying that even the simple option you're going to use the whole time are hidden while the screen is covered in options you might never use. Suddenly I need to watch a tutorial to learn how to do basic things, while in vst I could just work on it when I saw it for the first time and did not even knew how to play any music (my dad used the software and I borrowed it)
@@PowerRedBullTypology Thanks for reassuring me I'm not alone. I think part of the problem stems from Software programmers getting carried away with improvements that they seem to overlook the basics and the obvious such as that Interpretation button that seemed to make the score look right in one click. I remember years ago buying an improved (wont slag off a great keyboard manufacturer) keyboard and they seemed to have forgot a digital display on it so if you found a great sound you couldn't identify so easily. Even rewind on cubase uses a strange symbol instead of the standard arrow. If it wasn't for my standalone multi track I would have given recording by now.
Can I setup cubase in "Import Options for MIDI Files" in a way that will use kontakt multipatch set up as if it was HALion ? I mean i save a kontakt multipatch with all the general midi I like and then cubase loads theme with program change on each track importing a midifile ready to be played as it does with HALion in the option "Import Options for MIDI Files" ? thanks

Thank you for the videos and I'm using an iMac (2010), old and want to upgrade but have to buy a new Mac and a lot of software doesn't connect to it right now. I've been looking at videos of Logic vs Cubase. Don't know what to do at the moment, but like what you have shown and if I was to do Cubase, which one to start with. I'm looking forward to do short film, music production, etc. Can you make any suggestions? Does Cubase run in the Mac? Are you using a PC? The new Mac is expensive and especially the MacPro.
Hey Kenneth. Both Jay and I have used Logic and Cubase. Honestly, they are both very good so you can't go far wrong. We favour Cubase as the work flow is (in our opinion) quicker and more streamlined, but you'll get people arguing the other way around for sure. I personally use PC these days, and Cubase for me is rock solid, though nothing wrong with using it on Mac of course. At the end of the day, DAW's are a very personal choice, but if you know what you are doing, it does not matter which one you are using.

Mos software would run on it just fine (even huge 64 bit kontakt libraries when using J-bridge to get around the memory limitations)
Now I'm trying to learn the newer cubase and it feels quite annoying that even the simple option you're going to use the whole time are hidden while the screen is covered in options you might never use.
I mean i save a kontakt multipatch with all the general midi I like and then cubase loads theme with program change on each track importing a midifile ready to be played as it does with HALion in the option "Import Options for MIDI Files" ? thanks

Could I use Cubase with vocaloid5 ??? That’s why I got it but I’m not sure if I can even use it with vocaloid

Hi sir
Can you help me plzz when I am using cubase then the upper functions are not working i.e. file, edit , projects etc
Right from the off I'm struggling 😩 when I start my hub , it's only giving me the option to create , not create empty .
Also I have no work grid . The grid lines aren't visible.. I only have a 1 in top left corner then all blank next to it..ty
Any help please? I’ve got a midi fader so I can use for string expression, dynamics etc. Once cubase is open all the sliders are automatically assigned to a different function. Is there any way I can change this so that every time I open cubase, the sliders will only work once I’ve assigned them, rather having them all already assigned? Thank you.
Hi, Thanks for the Tutorial!
Can you please tell me why when I press right click to browse a track I cant see the "create sample track" option, but only the "insert into project" option ?
Hey, you are probably using the free version of Cubase that comes with hardware. It does not have the sampler track. We made a free course which you can watch here for that version ruclips.net/p/PLikwml5AU-ZMOs9DuzH9bTY464Se33y7s

Awesome video thank you! I am planning on buying Cubase 11 and your full beginners course on your website. Just a question, I will be ok with just Cubase 11, right? There was no software(like a previous version) that needs to be in place already, correct? Basically what I mean is that it's not an add on. I am just confused because I am seeing a lot of different Cubase packs 🙈 Thanks again!

We have been watching the RUclips video on ipad, but wouldn't be able to do this if the video was downloaded and we only have the one laptop. Any ideas?
Hey, yes you can use Cubase and watch a video. You just need to change setting in Cubase. Go to 'Studio', 'Studio Setup', Audio System', and tick 'release driver when in background'. Thanks for your support. Any questions let me know :)

Do I need to upgrade to Pro or some other version to proceed with these tutorials or is there another way around this? Any help appreciated, thanks so much
I got LE 8 with some Zoom hardware a while ago and discovered this as well - the upgrade to Elements is reduced-price, and you can demo for 30 days to see if it’s for you
You and Liam O'Mullane, from the Ableton tutorials, should do some wind tunnel tests to see which one of your heads creates the least drag. I'm just playing. Thanks for making this video, it was very informative. I love you.

I am a novice to this and would like to ask for some help. Currently have cubase elements 11 on a small laptop with windows 10. Have downloaded the workfiles to desktop but when I go into cubase it does not show under desktop. Tried putting it in other destinations but with the same result. Am using the link given. Any suggestions?
Have you unzipped the file? Cubase will only see normal folders as oppose to a zipped folder
I have no output sound with my computer or headphones
Quick question, as anything we can do to make Cubase more visually appealing is a plus: what font are you using for your default Windows system font?
At least the interface looks better then ableton 🤭 LOL!
You can change the colour scheme
Studio > Sudio setup > somethimg else maybe idk lol
But ye thats a thing
I see all those samples on yours, but mine only has 1,,, not sure why. any ideas?

Yeah, I tried to "try out" this tutorial last year and decided to try again today... when I go to the work files I tried to download it - but it needed to be extracted... so I tried to extract it and I can get a folder onto my desktop --- but Cubase file lookup doesn't give me the option to open up the "audio" although I can see the BTP file in the Cubase file search, but there is no bullet to its left to open up anything underneath it. Once again I am dismayed.
Hi Roger, sounds like you have a very common issue in Cubase, easily solved. Watch this video vimeo.com/451164327
@@Borntoproduce Thanks. But this did NOT address the problem. The file -without the left bullet - is NOT on the bottom and is followed by other files that DO have left margin bullets that DO open.
@@rogermitchell2463 Hi Roger. Did you extract the work files from the compressed file? Meaning the file you download, you open that up or view it, and you take the folder inside and put that on your desktop. You do not directly access the file you download in Cubase as it's a compressed file, so you need to take the files out before you can use them. Hope that helps
@@Borntoproduce Thanks again. After extracting them I am left with a "BTP Cubase 11 Beginners FREE Workfiles" in a folder on my desktop. Included in it are five files: BTP-HT!-Pluck-05-C and Kick 01 and Snare 01 and Top Loop 04 and Top Loop 32. HOWEVER - when I open Cubase (as directed in the RUclips video and go to find the file in the "search for file" area I FIND IT,,, but there is no BULLET alongside it It doesn't show any files underneath it. And there are other files listed below it (of different stuff) that DO have bullets that DO open - or show stuff underneath them. YES I DID EXTRACT THE FILES. Once doing that I DO need to access those files from Cubase (that's what the video shows anyway) but I am not finding their accessibility.

Thank you for the video :). Why does my RUclips video stop when I open Cubase? I'm trying to have your play in the background while I use Cubase, but it's "freezing" or something?
Most mixing softwares just don’t allow you to watch videos while the program is running depending on what your audio input/output are like
You need to go to 'Studio', Studio Setup, then VST audio system and select, 'release asio driver when in background' :)
@@Borntoproduce Thanks for helping out! Unfortunately, on Windows this will make them fight; i.e. whatever audio from the program running in the background will get snuffed. I can not play them both at the same time.
@@The_PlagueDoctor Hey, yes that is right, some sound cards/audio interfaces are not capable of playing 2 sources at once. Only option is to use a different driver for either Cubase or the other app. You can try something like ASIO4ALL, for Cubase which will free up the soundcard driver for the other program
