The Yoyogi Gymnasium, by Kenzo Tange, built for the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games has a significant importance in postwar Japan, and was used as well in 2020 (2021). The National Stadium built for the 2020 Olympic Games has multilayered wooden eaves combined with local vegetation, making it more "invisible", and is a response from Kengo Kuma to the "monument architecture" that he believes is represented by Tange's project.
