If you're going to make the inside black use, Gold label black or ms300 will seal the filter at the same time.

Glad you mentioned the temp fluctuations. I'm unheated and it has been bloody cold here in the East Mids.
A few nights its been 1-2c at night this week.
Mine are all on the bottom or hiding away again. Completely stopped feeding until it warms up again.
It’s crazy times init definitely makes me thinking about adding a air heat pump but they are crazy money

A other great update on the pond and fish and the projects around the grow on hope all well mate hopefully we can speak soon mate I am now having parasites in my main pond now so I am going through the treatment now mate.

It’s that time of year Steve init mate it can be very stressful as I well no but sometimes after treatment you need to sit back a just assess the problems and only treat when you really feel it is necessary koi can continue to flick and flash around two weeks after treatment in some cases depending how bad the situation is it takes time for the water to come back right will try to give you a call soon as I can thanks on your help though mate

James nice update there bud with the last chamber look into getting a airstone in there with the submerged bacteria media think that's what they do on the combi drums if its k1 or shower media👍

I don't keep koi anymore due to circumstances..but what's always played on my mind how do koi dealers in Japan grow their koi in mud ponds where they do have sever cold winters and never have a problem with their fish 🤔
They bring them in and heat them in the colder months I believe
In my early years of koi keeping I had a natural clay pond which I reformed and re puddled, it was on the natural water table , the pond was part of an original clay pit for a brickworks in the 19th century, when I reformed it , it was 10 meters x 6 meters and 1.6 meters deep in the middle with a reed filter system. I also introduced shelved margins and irises and reason the margins , the koi thrived , the skin conditions and colors were the best I’ve ever seen in my 18 years of keeping koi and being a water keeper .I moved house since the. And now have a formal koi pond , I do miss the natural one , I still have 4 of my original koi from that pond
@@JamesTHEKOIwhisperer123 No they don't because most koi breeders haven't got the space in doors for them so they keep their koi in the mud ponds during winter even when the mud ponds are frozen over..and I think you should Google how koi developed theirs different colours you will see loads..but my theory is because of the minerals within the natural clay because it was common carp that was first introduced to Japan from China basically for food so the Japanese farmers kept them in clay/ mud ponds and it was only years later that farmers started noticing the difference in colours of some of the carp in their ponds and that's where koi began 👍

I love how that everyone has a favourite type of koi. For me I got to say I love ochiba's. My big girl is hitting 60cm now and I'm looking at a doitsu ochiba for growing on.

I would recommend a sieve filter before the bay filter...
Yea that could be a good idea but I could possibly add and play around as we go with this pond just trying to build it as cheap as I can to start of like

I believe in this hobby every day is a school day as koi pond life style states and I believe the same there is always information to be took from everyone and if we can help each other out when we can that’s a koi part of the hobby I think 🤔
