They need to move on from Sullivan, simple as. The Pens have literally won the cup twice as a result of firing their coach and getting a fresh voice in the room. Sully's a great coach, he'll have success wherever he lands I"m sure, but he's clearly gotten stale. I'm sure a lot of guys in the room do like him but missing the playoffs with this core is inexcusable.
100% - They wanted to talk about defense? Fine. Talk about the nuts and bolts of how the Sullivan system leaves them hung out to dry. Talk about how the team is getting older? Then why is Sully hell bent on playing Ryan Graves and Matt Grzelcyck instead of 20yo Owen Pickering and 21yo Isaac Belliveau on the left side. I guess cause why would the Pens want a couple of 20yo defensemen in the lineup who are 6'5" and 6'3" respectively?
Pens fan since 86. The last 2 times they fired the coach mid season with this group (every time in Sids career) they have won the cup. Yet somehow keeping a coach for a decade when it has been nothing but downhill the entire time is a good idea???? They have turned over half the roster 5 times, hell 3 gms and 3 presidents all while Sully talks about playing the right way. I am so sad about them continuously wasting Sid time. The Pens ship has been sinking for a while. Rutherford was swinging for the fences with every trade. Hextall came in added to the holes in the boat. Bad contracts with too many no movement clauses. It’s Sullivan and Karlsson. Karlsson took Letangs spot and he isn’t playing as good as Letang was and now that has Letang in a funk. And Sullivan thinks they are fast still and can play his system. It’s just not the right fit for them now.
Speaking of the 4 nations & Karlsson dude I just want to see him with a real top level defense partner it would open him up so much. Lots of ppl calling for Sully to be fired Im pretty convinced its the roster holding him back and not the other way around.

If you look at penguins advanced stats, Karlsson/Pettersson was the by far best d-pair last season and again the by far best d-pair this season. At world championship in May this year Karlsson was probably the best d-man for team Sweden in a team that included Marcus Pettersson, Victor Hedman, Rasmus Dahlin and Jonas Brodin. All that said, things are clearly not going well for the penguins this season and you'd expect more from a 10 million guy like Karlsson, but to say Karlsson shouldn't even be on team Sweden in the 4 nations cup, that's pretty dumb. Sure there are a lot of good swedish d-men in the nhl, but Karlsson is still among the best and deserves a spot on that roster.
Not a lightning fan, but if TB could get a top 6 forward. Top 2 Cup favorite. I thought Vladimir Tarasenko, would go to TB b4 Det. Tarasenko type, would be ideal.
I feel like the Pens do have a Marc Methot in the form of Marcus Pettersson. I think the issue is Graves wasn't the other Marc Methot they needed. Since I think both Letang and Karlsson need that stay at home d-man. And Marcus Pettersson can only play on 1 pair at a time.
As a Capitals fan, I was happy from the start when Karlsson was traded to Pittsburgh because I knew that the contract would become bad pretty fast.
