Following my MANY failed attempts to record this Family Portrait video, I thought I'd just do it live on my channel instead!

I believe your second bottle of kouros could be a Sanofi version. One the confusing thing in dating that particular period of Kouros is that the bottom never shows ''Sanofi"' like in older Opium bottle. As far as I know all Sanofi bottles only showed "Parfums Corp'' until the Gucci takeover. One of the main characteristic I use to know if It's a Sanofi bottle is the 80% at the bottom. The Sanofi period got rid of the 80% very early in their acquisition, BUT there is still some early Sanofi version sporting the 80% (which was a characteristic of the original Parfums Corp version and Charles of the Ritz version, but you can easily tell apart the Corp and Ritz versions with the other info at the bottom of the bottle).

Nice video mate. I’m 20 mins in and will watch the rest later. I bought a vintage bottle of Kouros and Cologne Sport yesterday. First purchases in seven months!
7 months! Wow! Which version did you get?
@@RichMitch The original has the silver edges and from the PPR-Gucci era according to the description in the listing. Batch code is 2008 so seems legit. The Cologne Sport batch code is telling me 2013 but this flanker was released in 2003 so it could be an original release as the codes repeat. Will have to do a video when I get them.
@@TheScentientMan ppr-gucci is a good formulation, anything with the silver shoulders is. Ppr-gucci is the last "good" one. Before that, there was Sanofi, then before Sanofi there was parfums corp and before parfums corp there was the original Charles of the ritz .
Those silver shoulder versions are getting harder to find now so you should be happy with it
@@RichMitch Yeah it should be good. Although I did revisit the current L'Oreal production a few weeks ago and quite liked it. So will compare. The last time I owned Kouros was when I was a teenager and never owned it since so it will be a treat to have it back in my life.

On your recommendation I managed to get a cheap bottle of the Opium Secret de Parfum for very cheap on ebay (I don't think the seller knew what it was). It is every bit as good as you have been saying.

@@RichMitch Mostly the thicc resins and a strong patchouli. If I squint my eyes (or whatever the smelling equivalent of that is) I get hint of jasmine.

I find BODY kouros so difficult to describe..it reminds me of a few other perfumes that were around that time but not one in particular..fantastic stuff even the modern formulation

Thanks Rich, this was brilliant and all from one family! I have never found anything definite on Charles of the Ritz labelling...until now. To think I could walk into Boots all those years ago as I did and buy myself a bottle as I did several times, I loved it. Always had it for taking on a Summer holidays in the 80's!! Now it's several hundred smackers to get the same thing...who'd have thought? Thanks for persevering... must have been several 'Outrageous's and Shites exclaimed. Really enjoyed this. Oh and Opium in that first bottle👍. But I must get secret de parfum too. Cheers. Give the Pour Monsieur a chance, that drydown for me is Summer.

Yes there are other identifying marks which I'll go in to on my kouros video I've been threatening to do for ages now lol.
It is mad to think all these vintages were widely available at one point but no longer ☹
@@RichMitch I know, just imagine going into a dept store as I used to and choosing to buy Antaeus, Kouros, Jules, Balenciaga PH, Guerlain Vetiver, Habit Rouge, Derby to name a few and you would buy a couple, maybe more and you wouldn't bat an eyelid at the cost! Nowadays !🤬

Have you seen the site "Raiders of the lost Scent"? They have a page dedicated to distinguishing different versions of kouros. Just Google: Raiders of the lost Scent kouros and you'll have it all

@@RichMitch you display a cylindrical rive gauche bottle in "metalic/silver". Nowadays you have the same type of bottle but its blue colored. I wondered if they are pretty similar.

Are you going to discuss creed vanisia? I love it - I saw the colour of the juice on your channel and I thought I’ve got to get that. Maybe a video on old creed as acier aluminium is also good. Another topic would be houses they have taken the biggest dip due to reforms or losing creative direction. Lots of contenders Dior, Ysl, creed, boss… Ralf Lauren..

It's a good idea for a video, short answer would be that almost all designer houses have lost their way
@@RichMitch yes that’s true they have all lost their way. Niche houses are kind of filling gap. My take is that musc de sables is a modern day vintage kouros. Different perfume but the same pissy masculine vibe. Guerlain Iris torriffe is 2012 Dior homme and so on
I think Ysl have fallen the most but yes lots of contenders - really sad that an art form is allowed to die and only a small band of people realise and care about that - in 50 years time no one will know what a classic masculine fragrance from the 80s and 90s really smelt like. Imagine what kouros in 2070 smells like if it still exists at all. It would be a distant distant photocopy of what it once was, it already is. Maybe the photocopy would be on even cheaper paper in 2070 with even less colour… .

That's suprising mentioning that YSL pour homme was featured in American psyco because if you read the book the main character wears nothing but ck obsession..lol and watching on the only ever compliment you've had from wearing a perfume you actually had to ask for..😆 that cracked me up mate..its funny because "I've told this story many times on fragrance videos" the only e er compliment I've had is from wearing opium as well..1996 and an appointment with a stunning looking bank manager I had..as you can see the compliment has stayed with me all these years

It's a rhizome similar to ginger and turmeric and quite rightly as mentioned has a ginger/cardomom/pine taste, absolutely delicious in Thai and other south east asian cuisines for instance.
