❤BIBLE VERSES OF THE DAY❤ 1 THESSALONIANS 5:2-4 NIV 2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.
CAblend is absolutely beautiful, and always has such great reactions ❤ Besides the famous artists, the band (Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Donald "Duck" Dunn, Steve Cropper, etc) were all well-known session musicians of the time who have played with everyone who was anyone in the music business. The shopping mall scene was, at the time, the most expensive scene ever filmed. They found an abandoned mall, and fixed it up to look like an active mall, then wrecked it. The owner of the mall later sued the movie's producers for leaving it a mess and not repairing any of the damage. It's since been demolished. At the time, this movie set the record for number of cars wrecked, at 104. The sequel, Blues Brothers 2000 wrecked 105. The record has since been shattered, mostly by the Fast and Furious films. The parole officer was Frank Oz, the voice of Yoda and many muppets, as well as appearing in several movies. The waiter in the restaurant was played by Paul Reubens, who played Pee-wee Herman. Maury Sline was played by Steve Lawrence who, along with his wife Eydie Gorme, was part of Steve and Eydie, a popular tv and nightclub singing act in the 60s and 70s. The woman at the gas station was played by 60s British model Twiggy. The city tax assessor at the end was played by Steven Spielberg. Curtis was played by Cab Calloway, a well known singer and band leader known for his scatting talents. Here's a great clip of him and the dancing duo the Nicholas Brothers in the 1943 movie Stormy Weather, a scene that Fred Astaire described as the "greatest dance number ever filmed": ruclips.net/video/_8yGGtVKrD8/видео.html
Guiness World Record for most Cars destroyed in 1 movie. John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin , the King of Scat Cab Calloway and James Brown to name a few. One of the last movies I saw at a Drive-In Theater.
Yes...the "swastika" was 100 percent an ancient and often sacred symbol across Eurasia...the word comes from Sanskrit, and it originally meant something like "health and luck"...that was before the NSDAP co-opted it and took it as their own. And the Schmazis in this movie were a joke aimed at the vary famous case of the American Schmazis that wanted to march in Skokie, Illinois, but had to sue the town to get their permit...the case went all the way to the US Supreme Court, which affirmed that even Schmazis have the right to peacefully demonstrate under the 1st Amendment.
If I remember correctly, the differentiation is in the rotation of the arms. If the rotation of the arms, or if the portions on the far outside are trailing to the left, as though it were turning clockwise it is associated with working aligned with nature, and the opposite, how the "not sees" presented it, outside potions trailing to the right against nature.
Dan Aykroyd cofounded the House of Blues venues of which there are 11 still in operation around the country, so he is a strong supporter of keeping the “Blues” music alive.
And hosted a weekly radio show on Blues for decades as Elwood Blues. He is a real blues expert and the main reason that the Blues Brothers came into being, starting on SNL. Most of the musicians were from the SNL band
When I first saw the Blues Brothers movie I was not too impressed, but it gets better each time I watch it now....and......My reaction to California Blend is she looks absolutely stunning in this hair style.
Cab Calloway...famous jazz singer / perfomrer, had a band from the 1920's on. Becasue he appeared in this movie, at age 72, he revived his career for a while, got gigs and and went out on top. He is an icon in American Music. Got his start playing in the Cotton Club in NYC. The young set who saw this movie thought he was awesome, total lcharisma. This guy was a world class star. Watch that spin he did in the white tux!! A his age? Wow!
0:22 Yes. That's the same officer from Trading Places, and also the same from American Werewolf in London. That's Frank Oz. The puppeteer and voice for Miss Piggy and Yoda. Among other things.
It's true that the swastika was an ancient symbol of peace in some religions (like Hinduism) going back thousands of years, but ever since it was hijacked by the Nahtzees in the 1930s it has pretty much only been associated with them. One subtle difference is that the ancient spiritual swastika is usually sitting on one edge in a square orientation, but the Nahtzee swastika sits on one corner, in a diamond shaped orientation.
Yes, I saw that symbol in Japan while researching the 2011 Tsunami. I then researched it to learn it was used by many groups/congregations, before it was bastardized.
That's strange ... in the States, Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back was released on June 18, 1980, and filming began on March 5, 1979. However, The Blues Brothers, which came out on June 20, 1980 didn't begin filming until July 1979. I don't know, but whether you go by filming dates or release dates, I would say she definitely knew Jabba The Hutt first.
There are so many great musicians and singers in this movie: Cab Calloway, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and John Lee Hooker all had featured performances. Session musicians and side performers include Chaka Khan, Steve Cropper, Donald "Duck" Dunn, Walter Horton, and Pinetop Perkins. Steve Lawrence was also a musical performer, but he didn't sing in the film. The mall they destroyed was real. They rented the Dixie Square Mall in Harvey, Illinois. It had been closed for over a year, and there were rumors that the place was going to be refurbished and reopened after the filming. The producers assumed, since the mall was closed, that it was OK if they wrecked the place. The owners of the property sued Universal for failing to return the mall in its original condition. The case went on for years, and the mall was eventually demolished in 2012. 104 cars were wrecked in the making of this movie. The Nazis in this movie were a reference to a famous legal and political battle, where a group of Nazis wanted to hold a march in Skokie, Illinois, a small city with a large proportion of Jews (including Holocaust survivors). The local government tried to prevent the march from taking place. There was a lawsuit based on the first amendment rights of freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, parts of which made it up to the U.S. Supreme Court. The courts ruled that the Nazis did have the right to hold their march, but though they won the case, the Nazis didn't proceed with the march.
My dad did the best Ray Charles impression. So I got my parents Ray Charles tickets for their anniversary. My dad burst into tears upon seeing them. And I have an old Fender Rhodes piano, with seven sticky keys, that still sounds better than anything made today.
1.This was Dan Aykroyd's baby that started out as a SNL skit. He eventually got with Landis (thus Chicago) and it was built on that. There were already songs made for the Blues Brothers from SNL They also put out one album. 2. All-star cast.🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 3. Booking officer is Frank Oz. Voiced Yoda, Miss Piggy and other Muppets. 4. "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we have a full tank of gas, a half pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses, hit it" 5. A MUCH better Musical (even better than Grease IMVHO). It's "Hair" 1979. John Savage, Treat Williams and Beverly D'Angelo. Milos Foreman directed. "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest" and "Hair" 6. They smash so many cars that "Smokey and the Bandit" was practice. WE'RE ON A MISSION FROM GOD😇😇
"The Curl Up and Dye Girl" I like that a new MCU superhero name is born LOL! Actually during the filming of this movie Carrie Fisher and Dan Aykroyd were engaged after Dan reportedly proposed to her on the movie set, but the engagement ended when Fisher reunited with her ex Paul Simon. Carrie and Paul were married and divorced within the span of a year.
Both Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Blues Brothers were cinematic love letters to the city of Chicago, just done by different people. As much as I love this movie, it makes me sad now knowing how many of the stars and musicians are no longer with us. I dated Steve "The Colonel" Cropper's niece in high school a couple of times, but never actually met him.😂
The British woman at the Gas Station was 1960's Super Model, Twiggy. At the time of filming Carrie Fischer was engaged to Dan Ackroyd. The Waiter at the Chez Paul was Paul Rubens (Pee Wee Herman). The Lead Singer of the Good Old Boys was Actor Charles Napier who played the General in the Austin Powers movies. One of the Soloists in the Church Choir is Chaka Khan.

I got to see the Blues Brothers Band at the Birmingham jazz festival (UK) in 1990 - they were brilliant and had Booker T with them. Eddie Floyd and Edwin Starr were singing for them, around 1990/91
The cast in this movie is full of some you know, and some you have no idea. The Nazi leader was really a nice guy, comedian Henry Gibson. He got his first big break as a cast member of the very popular comedy show, Rowan and Martin's Laugh - In [1968-73]. He worked with future star Goldie Hawn on that show. He had a great movie and TV career as a comedy actor, playing all kinds of kooky characters, even this Nazi. The promoter in the steam room played by the recently late Steve Lawrence, a famous singer of the 1950's on [with his wife Edie Gourmet]. He dabbled in acting.
The mall they went through and demolished was Dixie Square Mall in Harvey, Ill. It had already been abandoned for a few years when they shot the movie. Reportedly, 1 million was spent outfitting the stores so they could demolish everything.
The actor playing the prison guard who returns Jake’s items is Frank Oz. Frank Oz is a great director, but is most known for being the puppeteer of Yoda, Bert (from Sesame Street), Miss Piggy, Grover, Fozzie Bear, and other muppets. Thus, it is a bit of an inside joke when the man in Toys R Us is holding a Grover doll and asking about Miss Piggy.
Favorite movie quote, the Police dispatcher. “The use of unnecessary violence in the apprehension of the Blues Brothers, has been approved.” Unnecessary violence, not unnecessary force.
My favorite story about the filming of this is that one day while they were shooting on location in Chicago no one in the cast or crew could find John Belushi. They started a door to door search in the neighborhood until they found him in the living room of some random resident's house eating a sandwich.
In addition to John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd and the other members of the band The Blues Brothers, many famous personalities can be seen in guest appearances, including Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, John Lee Hooker, Chaka Khan, Carrie Fisher, Frank Oz, Twiggy, Steven Spielberg, Joe Walsh, John Candy and Charles Napier. A cult music comedy as a soul and blues party of superlatives. Sensational and incredibly funny. Understandably, the film soundtrack immediately climbed to the top of the US charts.
There is a podcast called "It Was A Sh Show" that covered this movie. Belushi was so coked up that he would just wander off set and Akroyd would have to go look for him. So he's wandering around these Chicago neighborhoods knocking on doors. He gets to one house where the guy tells him, "Oh, you must be looking for that one guy! He's in here crashed out on the couch!"
The old lightskin Black man was famous Jazz Singer from the 1940’s Cab Calloway that’s Fred Sanford was always talking about”I had my hair slick back like Cab Calloway lol” He also performed with Janet Jackson in her music video ALRIGHT ruclips.net/video/JgeAUejUZhg/видео.htmlsi=mb6cKBOS95ppfUys
30:56 Steven Spielberg! This was him returning a favor to director John Landis, who had made a brief cameo (sans beard) as a motorcycle telegram delivery driver in Spielberg’s WWII comedy 1941 (1979), also featuring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd (and half of Hollywood), which was released in theaters a little over 6 months before this film came out. Back then, the two men were friends. Unfortunately that friendship ended a few years later, in the wake of the Twilight Zone movie tragedy, when veteran actor Vic Morrow and two young Asian children were killed in a helicopter accident during shooting of Landis’ segment of the anthology film TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE (1983). After that incident, Spielberg never spoke to Landis again.
Dan Ackroyd tells a story about filming this movie Saturday night live was big back then …so apparently John Belushi wondered off set nobody could find him he had knocked on some random family’s door introduced himself had dinner with them the crew found him hours later crashed out on that family’s couch he fell asleep watching tv with them lol
The corrections officer at the beginning of the film is, indeed, the same actor who appears in Trading Places. His name if Frank Oz, and he's the voice of Yoda in Star Wars.
My siblings and I adopted Murph's "Don't you go changing" after seeing this movie in the 80s. This movie was raked over the coals for being excessive and being a "one-joke" Saturday Night Live sketch. Oh, have things changed. Because of the use of CGI in films, the appreciation for all the practical car chases and wrecks found great favor. As always, I love watching your reaction videos.
I almost got to play with Cab Calloway, once upon a time. But at the time I was 3rd Call, and they only needed two. I did go to the gig, and got to meet Cab and shake his hand.
That same officer from trading places when Jake was getting released from prison is frank oz he did the voice for miss piggy on the muppets and also did Yoda‘s voice in the star wars movies
29:15 When you're on a mission from God, there is always a way. It's too bad you had to mute most of the music; the songs really make this film shine. Thanks!
More Carrie Fisher outside of this and official Star Wars stuff: The Burbs, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, When Harry Met Sally, Shampoo, Hannah and Her Sisters, Soapdish, Hook, Under the Rainbow, The Man with One Red Shoe, The Ruttles 2, Charlies Angels 2, the Robot Chicken Star Wars specials, Family Guy, Heartbreakers, Wonderwell, Maps to the Stars, Austin Powers, Amazon Women on the Moon...episodes of Big Bang Theory, SNL, Laverne & Shirley, Amazing Stories, The Muppet Show, Weeds, Dr Katz, Frasier, Ellen, It's Like You Know, 30 Rock, Good Morning Miami, Smallville...
Yes dear, that's the same officer from Trading Places ... none other than Frank Oz, the voice of Yoda, The Muppet Show's characters of Kermit The Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Sam Eagle ... Cookie Monster, Bert (of Bert and Earnie) and Grover on Sesame Street and so many others. BTW, you caught a lot of the musicians, but I don't know if you caught Steven Spielberg, who was the guy who played the Cook County Assessor's Office Clerk that they paid the $5,000 to for the back taxes on the orphanage. There were tons of musicians, actors, etc. that were not specifically paid much attention that were also in this film, and most people today never notice or realize their importance. You should scan IMDB for the Full Cast & Crew page. It's quite interesting ... they had everyone there.
I'm surprised you missed it. They succeeded despite physics because they were "ON A MISSION FROM GAHD." After about a few thousand miracles when they succeeded in their Godly mission, God said, "Now you reap what you sowed."
The Illinois Nazi Party bit was based on some real events- that year (1980)- they won a First Amendment case to have a parade through the Chicago suburb of Skokie (which is primarily Jewish). And Carrie Fisher played John Belushi's ex here, but at the time she was actually dating Dan Aykroyd.
The swasticka as others have said is an ancient symbol. Today, it is an example of what happens when appropriation destroys things. Never let it be said appropriation isn't real or can't be destructive.
"Who's this?" In a glittering array of superstars Cab Calloway stands alone! Minnie the Moocher was 1931's song of the year and the first record by an African American to sell 1 million copies. Cab had a hit in every decade from the 1930's to the 1990's but Minnie was his masterpiece, in the last verse we find out poor Minnie the moocher that low down hoochie koocher (exotic dancer) with a heart as big as a whale dies in an insane asylum after falling in love with a Cokey (cocaine addict) boyfriend who took her to Chinatown to bang the gong (smoke opium) and got her hooked... Vale Minnie and the Hidee Ho man. ⭐
Looks like we have another reactor that's on a mission from God reacting to the Blues Brothers. Hopefully that mission will continue with reacting to Blues Brothers 2000.
The sound track of this movie is epic, yeah they overdid the car chases but the music and comedy is great. Cali, you got to remember this whole thing started as an SNL skit, a morality tale it ain't.
I think you watched a different version of the Blues Brothers as some of the scenes in the RUclips edit I don't ever remember seeing before. And I've seen this movie tons of times.
Well he's kinda right. Before the Swastika was called what it is called now, it was a sun symbol. The Hindus used it, the Native Americans, and some other ancient cultures.
Reactors tend to miss the "on a mission from God" part. That's the explanation for all of the "there's no way" moments. That's why the car falls to pieces at the Assessor's Office, for instance: Once the car reaches the office, God has no reason to continue holding it together.
The ancient sanskrit Swastika aka the "hooked cross" has been used for at least 7000 years as a "good luck/fortune" symbol and you can find it on old buildings all over the world like 100+ years old churches in europe & similar holy buildings across all the world across all religions etc. Sadly this old motif was hijacked by evil in WW2 where they turned the symbol a couple of degree to the side to make it their symbol of evil. Aaaanyways, when the evil person in the movie talks about their "ancient holy symbol" he is .. very sadly .. not entirely wrong. But dont confuse the evil version with the good ancient real one, i feel that is importent.

The clerk, at the end of the movie, you know, the guy in the office, who accepts their payment... that's Steven Spielberg.
Favorite movie quote, the Police dispatcher. “The use of unnecessary violence in the apprehension of the Blues Brothers, has been approved.” Unnecessary violence, not unnecessary force.
The Police dispatcher was the machine gunner from the movie "Home Alone"; his quote was the "Keep the change, ya filthy animal"
My favorite story about the filming of this is that one day while they were shooting on location in Chicago no one in the cast or crew could find John Belushi. They started a door to door search in the neighborhood until they found him in the living room of some random resident's house eating a sandwich.
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
The old lightskin Black man was famous Jazz Singer from the 1940’s Cab Calloway that’s Fred Sanford was always talking about”I had my hair slick back like Cab Calloway lol” He also performed with Janet Jackson in her music video ALRIGHT

As a teenager I saw this movie and it gave me a window into a culture I did not even knew existed.
Classic I grew up on this movie I had the VHS 📼 now the DVD 📀
Dan Ackroyd tells a story about filming this movie Saturday night live was big back then …so apparently John Belushi wondered off set nobody could find him he had knocked on some random family’s door introduced himself had dinner with them the crew found him hours later crashed out on that family’s couch he fell asleep watching tv with them lol
The corrections officer at the beginning of the film is, indeed, the same actor who appears in Trading Places.
His name if Frank Oz, and he's the voice of Yoda in Star Wars.
Thats yoda guy with moustache with comb😊 over frank oz
My siblings and I adopted Murph's "Don't you go changing" after seeing this movie in the 80s. This movie was raked over the coals for being excessive and being a "one-joke" Saturday Night Live sketch. Oh, have things changed. Because of the use of CGI in films, the appreciation for all the practical car chases and wrecks found great favor. As always, I love watching your reaction videos.
Also, the S.W.A.T. team's "Huts" were probably the best ADR ever recorded.
Love your reactions. The BBs is a cinematic, comedic epic. Glad you enjoyed it. Such a cast.
Cab Calloway is driving a Cadillac flower car. It's like a luxury El Camino. Very cool!.
This is the greatest movie ever
"greatest" is of course, completely subjective, and, opinion, not fact.
Excellent soundtrack. My vote for best chase scene.
This was a great theater experience. Thank you for sharing your reaction.
React to Blues Brothers 2000. It's has even more stars. Great reaction. I bid you peace, prosperity and tranquility. Keep up the good work .
I almost got to play with Cab Calloway, once upon a time. But at the time I was 3rd Call, and they only needed two. I did go to the gig, and got to meet Cab and shake his hand.
One of my favorite movies. Ages so well for us older people. incredible music, and great, over the top fun.
Got to watch this mission from God
Good movie and Soundtrack 💯👍🏾🎼🎥📺
That same officer from trading places when Jake was getting released from prison is frank oz he did the voice for miss piggy on the muppets and also did Yoda‘s voice in the star wars movies
29:15 When you're on a mission from God, there is always a way. It's too bad you had to mute most of the music; the songs really make this film shine. Thanks!
Best soundtrack of any movie!
Fyi, this is apparently an expanded version of the movie because there were lots of scenes not in the original movie.
That’s right hon…we have the choice and turn my back to the lord
Because this swastika is an ancient symbol I don't know how you don't know that.. It was used by many cultures long before the German Nazis..
I don't care who used it, a broken cross will never be sacred.
@libertyresearch-iu4fy Yeah what you just said has nothing to do with what I just said.. 👍🤦♂️
@@BriBryBriBry Yeah, a swastika is a broken cross. DERP
The guy at the tax office at the end holding the sandwich was Steven Spielberg.
They're on a mission from God.
The guy who played the cop in trading places and here is also Miss Piggy
0:23 legend has it this is Frank Oz the voice of Fozzi Bear - and Yoda.
That it is. He also appeared in this director's An American Werewolf in London and is an excellent director in his own right.
Yes it is the same Officer 👮🏽♀️ from trading places also he is the voice of Kermit the frog and he is the voice of Yoda from StarWars movies FRANK OZ
Miss Piggy, not Kermit
The three stooges used the curl up and dye also
a cinema classic!
We're on a mission from God
10:47 Paul Reubens, aka Peewee Herman
31:22 Is Spielberg holding a pistol on the BBs? 😄
Both Yoda and Princess Leia are in this
Looks like we have another reactor that's on a mission from God reacting to the Blues Brothers.
Hopefully that mission will continue with reacting to Blues Brothers 2000.
Blues Brothers 2000 is the sequel
The sound track of this movie is epic, yeah they overdid the car chases but the music and comedy is great. Cali, you got to remember this whole thing started as an SNL skit, a morality tale it ain't.
Is it just me or is that a young Chaka Khan as an extra in the choir? 3:41
I think you watched a different version of the Blues Brothers as some of the scenes in the RUclips edit I don't ever remember seeing before. And I've seen this movie tons of times.
Yes, I reacted to the extended edition
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Well he's kinda right. Before the Swastika was called what it is called now, it was a sun symbol. The Hindus used it, the Native Americans, and some other ancient cultures.
heavy handed editing here. Takes a lot of fun out of it
Def need 2 watch da sequel. My uncle is in it. (BB King)
Reactors tend to miss the "on a mission from God" part. That's the explanation for all of the "there's no way" moments. That's why the car falls to pieces at the Assessor's Office, for instance: Once the car reaches the office, God has no reason to continue holding it together.
I hope one day you’ll watch GATTACA one of my favorite movies I think you will enjoy watching it ✌🏼❤
Orange whip? 3 orange whips.
It IS an ancient sacred symbol. It was simply ruined by a certain group. Letter Z is experiencing the same right now.
A really bizarre movie featuring these two is Neighbors. Not to be confused with the Will Farrell movie of the same name.
I like your reactions. But I am Jewish. I do not appreciate the implication that only Christians are "saved." I believe there are many paths.
Another fun reaction.😁👍. I would like to se you react to the movie Misery 1990, its a thriller/intense .🤞
California you're looking so stunning ...you must be going to the prom...too bad I'm 68.😂
