Honestly this song is less sad than some others on this album (specifically Edward Benz and I See Everything). Just because it's not a specific true story, it's still super sad.
Also because the instrumentals and vocal performance slap pretty hard on this one, which makes it much more palatable upon further listenings

Just discovered this song and band today - which really surprised me because this is a genre of music I’ve always enjoyed so I don’t know how this band slipped under my radar. What I love about the lyrics, especially at the end, is that they somehow make the shooter a sympathetic character when he asks if he can still go to heaven after dying by suicide. It’s so desperate. He wants to atone for his crime of murder but still somehow wants to think that suicide would damn his soul forever and not the killing of a kid. As a listener I didn’t want the dude to end his life. I wanted him to face justice and “make his peace in the world” for what he did. It’s just such a beautiful and sad song.

i feel like he is asking if he can be forgiven by killing himself bc he is afraid of going to hell later for killing the kid.. maybe i'm being too optimistic about people (hope you understood me bc i'm french so my english isn't perfect)

    The lyrics:
Another shooting on the southeast side, this a drive-by, mid-day
Outside of the bus stop, by Fuller and Franklin, or near there
    Not far from the park
About a block from where the other shooting was last month
    Or was it last week?
Shots were fired from an SUV heading northbound, Eastown
The target a rival but they didn't hit the target this time
They hit a kid we think had nothing to do with it
And I travel backwards through time and space
    And I disintegrate, become invisible
I want to see it where I couldn't when it happened
I want to see it all first hand this time
I want to know what it felt like
So I float behind police lines
Reconstruct the scene in fragments of memories
I want to know what his mother looked like up close
I want to see her leaning over his body
So I float there, transcend time
I want to capture it accurately
I want to know what the color of the blood was
Spilling out from the tarp onto the concrete
I want to write it all down so I can always remember
If you could see it up close how could you ever forget?
How senseless death, how precious life
I want to be there when the bullet hit
And the crowd poured out as the shots drowned into siren sounds
Out of there houses now and over front yards
All the way up to the place where the police tape ran to mark the crime scene
Everybody trying to catch a glimpse of what was happening
Of what was going on between the ambulance and all the cop cars
    Everybody gossiping
"Whose kid got hit? Where'd it hit him? And who could've fired it?"
    Everybody wondering
"How did it happen again? And is he dead? These children, our kids."
Everybody wondering how far they were from where the victims lived
And I visit them, their houses, inside my dream I visit them
My spirit, soaring high and high up over King Park
Leaves the crime scene, travels further back till far before the shooting
Through their windows, to their living rooms
I see them younger this time, playing games and doing homework
All these marks of youth soon transformed coldly into stone
For fights and stupid feuds, for ruins wrapped in gold
And cruelly I recall why I have come to find a reason
But there cannot be a reason, not for death, not like this, not like this
Three days later they made funeral plans, the family
Three days later a mother had to bury her son
Not far away the shooter holed up in a hotel
Near to the highway with a friend and the gun, that same gun
He'd fled immediately but was identified by witnesses
His picture on TV, only 20 years old
    They called him "Grandpa"
He was older than the others by a year, maybe two
And he was safe for awhile until somebody saw him there
And notified the authorities who surrounded the hotel
First arresting an accomplice while attempting to flee
Then chasing him up the staircase to the floor where he'd stayed
He closed the door hard behind him, locked himself in the room
They could've kicked in the door but knew the gun was still with him
One he'd already used and so they feared what he'd do
I floated up through the window of a room to the West
I hovered out to the hallway, tried to listen in
I heard them trying to reason, get him to open the door
His uncle begging and pleading, half-collapsed to the floor
He preached of hope and forgiveness
Said, "There is always a chance to rectify what you've taken, make your peace in the world."
I thought to slip through the door, I could've entered the room
I felt the burden of murder, it shook the earth to the core
Felt like the world was collapsing then we heard him speak
"Can I still get into heaven if I kill myself?
Can I still get into heaven if I kill myself?
Can I ever be forgiven 'cause I killed that kid?
It was an accident I swear it wasn't meant for him!
And if I turn it on me, if I even it out
Can I still get in or will they send me to hell?
Can I still get into heaven if I kill myself?"
I left the hotel behind, don't want to know how it ends

Listening to music like this after dealing with depression your whole life, but now being the happiest you've been is a weird feeling.
To anyone that needs to hear this, it gets better, even if you think it never will. You'll have extreme downs, and be at the bottom of the barrel, but you can only build yourself up. It takes fucking years and years of trying, and honestly giving up a few times. But it'll be worth it in the end. Keep on going on, trust me :)

Truth. I have to echo this sentiment. I spent years wanting to end it but I couldn’t bear the thought of doing that to my friends and family. Then my best friend had problems with his wife and he killed himself, which simultaneously made me sadder and reinforced the idea of the pain it puts on others. If i had done it, his kids wouldn’t have anyone that was close to their dad still here to talk to, so it added an ounce of purpose to my life. I can’t say I’m super happy, at least not yet, but I’m glad i held out. Suffering is terrible, but there is something special about enduring it and overcoming it a little bit at a time.
I feel like songs like this give me a controlled environment where i can let out some grief and then go on with the rest of my day, so I appreciate it.

Honestly- this hits hard! Im gonna go listen to other songs but despite this being relevantly old its still very well made!!
The fact that it tells of a tale through the eyes of the actual victim, the desperation of the murderer and uncle is very portrayed excellently.
We often told about murder and things like that happening but we dont care cause it doesnt offend us maybe a “aw thats sad” but the song brings out how impactful that could be.
And with the music intensifying in the background it really makes us seem like we’re reliving the whole situation and it’s absolutely amazing considering that were only listening to it we arent having any lictures or stuff its honestly very impressive!! And the lyrucs themselves are impactful.

Absolute MASTERPIECE. This still makes my heart race even after countless listens. 6:34 the cymbals here get so loud, I think louder than any part of the song and it's almost too loud that I wonder if it's intentional. It has the effect of making me clench my teeth which is exactly the kind of response I want from such an adrenaline filled build up. "Can I still get into heaven if I kill myself" is tragically breathtaking.

    Ή ήταν την περασμένη εβδομάδα;
    Αν μπορούσατε να το δείτε από κοντά, πώς θα μπορούσατε να το ξεχάσετε;
    Ένιωσα ότι ο κόσμος κατέρρευσε
    Τότε τον ακούσαμε να μιλά
    Μπορώ να μπω στον παράδεισο αν σκοτωθώ;
    Μπορώ να μπω στον παράδεισο αν σκοτωθώ;
    Μπορώ ποτέ να με συγχωρήσει γιατί σκότωσα αυτό το παιδί;
    Και αν το ενεργοποιήσω
    Αν το έκανα ακόμη
    Μπορώ ακόμα να μπω ή θα με στείλουν στην κόλαση;

I found this song today, I can't even wrap my head around what must have the people on the scene feel. Or their families and friends. I don't understand anything, it's insane. The shooter killed himself so he will not face any consequences for ruining the lives of so many people. Pathetic loser.

Not sure if anyone thinks this but what if the singer is the victim and he's seeing it all unfold

Guys I need your help!! I have a song in my head that I listened to so long ago I forgot the lyrics and the name and I need your help cause the end of this song reminds me so much of it! Basically the end of the song is about a boyfriend finding out that his girlfriends been cheating on him and he finds out that they’re meeting up at a hotel and when he gets there he finds the room. When he gets in he finds the guy and shoots him and then his girlfriends locked in the bathroom and crying and when he talks her out he kills her then kills himself after. If you know please let me know!

The ending of this song made me cry. I used to wonder if I could still get into heaven if I killed my self.
