John can sing anything- from ballads to rock (AC/DC, Led Zeppelin) to soul - it’s good to see a reactor who recognises how rare the power he has in his upper ranges actually is! Thank you so much!

I doesn’t bother me what John sings. It’s the tone in his voice that gets me. He sings and you are just waiting for him him to get up into the high notes. He’s like the pied piper his voice just draws you in
It’s a musical instrument of its own. A one of a kind.
Then add entertaining into the mix.
To be at one of his concerts is being on a high. Don’t count on any sleep when you get home after one. You are still on a high 🙂

Thankyou for this..one of my favourite memories was being at this concert. I think he sang this as his last encore of the night. He is always amazing .. still is even in his 70's. Still a powerhouse voice and full of passion for singing. He is a national treasure here with legions of fans of all ages. Yet he is the most humble man you would ever meet. Sit down and have a beer with anyone after a concert. Great guy.

There’s a concert on RUclips of John Farnham with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House. It’s a few years after “Help”. All the songs he chose were composed by Australians. Even though it’s a big venue, John gives you the sense that it’s an intimate nightclub. I think you’d enjoy it, even if it’s not as a reaction but just for you to enjoy with a few friends. You’ll see the wide range of styles he can sing. Another YT video I recommend as a reaction is John and the band doing “That’s What Love Will Make You Do”. It’s great - RnB / Jazz / Funk - and shows off the artistry of most of the band members playing solo.

You asked at the end why you never heard of him? Well he decided not to try overseas work in America. They wanted him naturally enough but he was happy living in Australia and bringing his kids up here. Also, he is fairly well known anyway. If you saw the opening of the Sydney Olympics for instance in 2000 then you would have seen a duet with Olivia Newton John called DARE TO DREAM which is on youtube. Also other work to look for is ONJ with him in a special with Anthony Warlow called the MAIN EVENT on youtube. Anthony was Australia's 'phantom' in the Sydney version of PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Livvie and John have known each other for ever. Like brother and sister really. They both were born in England, her in 1948 and him in 1949 and both ended up being brought up in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She from the age of 3, and he from the age of 10. Both were on Aussie talent shows in the 1960's and Liv won one which took her back to England with her friend. She ended up staying and working with Cliff Richard and eventually went to America and did country music like LET ME BE THERE. She comes back to Australia fairly regularly and they get together.

  • @KitKat-wt6ed
    @KitKat-wt6ed 2 года назад +6

Thanks for your reaction. He certainly is sensational. Probably the main reason you haven't heard of him is because he wasn't really interested in an international record deal. He had a family and saw what endless touring did to others within the industry. Jimmy Barnes attempted it but they tried to commercialize him in the US to suit their market and he wasn't interested in that, so both him and Farnham made the decision to stay in Oz and do mostly local tours. Other great songs You're the voice, touch of paradise, that's freedom.

If John had been born in another time or place I believe he would have been a famous opera singer. He has never had a music lesson. This is pure raw untrained talent.
With training in opera WOW I would have liked to hear that.
He gives a glimpse of it with Granada with Anthony Warlow.
A few bars of Opera …. Just enough for me to want more.
I hope you get a chance to react to it. It is from a concert called the main event.

I am glad you have discovered John Farnham. And thankyou for a great reaction. He was pretty big in Germany and Europe in general in the late 80's
but he preferred to stay put in Australia with his wife and family. He is such a lovely guy. Makes everyone in the audience feel like his best mate. And Aussies just love him to bits
.At 70+ years old he can still belt out his songs in the same key as he did in his 20s and 30s. His is a great story but I'll save something to tell you on the next reaction. Try to find a love version of "the Voice" . It was big in Germany. It might ring a bell

I bit of back ground information for you...…..( WIKIPEDIA) The power ballad[8] is also one of Farnham's biggest successes in Europe, charting at No. 1 in Germany and Sweden and reaching the Top 10 in Austria, Ireland, Switzerland and the UK. Although "You're the Voice" was also successful in Canada (reaching the Top 20), in the US the track performed relatively poorly, missing the chart on its initial 1987 issue. BMG/RCA re-released the song in the US in February 1990 after Farnham made the Adult Contemporary chart with "Two Strong Hearts". Farnham's version eventually spent eight weeks on the US charts, peaking at No. 82, but in the US the song is probably best known for a charting version issued in 1991 by the band Heart.
In January 2018, as part of Triple M's "Ozzest 100" of the "most Australian' songs of all time", the song was ranked number 6.[9
