Policing the “time” and “place” of conversations are the reasons change doesn’t happen. We’ve been saying the same things and not much change is being made
Atp we've got to make change on our own/individually. However, the stats & numbers will still count towards the collective. Sadly we can't even trust ourselves/our own "Movements" these days (blm). My question to this is if 'policing the conversations' don't help change, what solutions did he give in that interview to promote change holistically? I've seen conversations in christian settings where he gave a more thorough critique and provided solutions where actual leaders could be challenged in love btw.
Kev silently hushing Monty like a whole Black daddy made me giggle 😊😅. Quietly getting him together without disrupting his business call LOL Multitasking!❤
Agree with Kev…We don’t even know if the people who are in church are churchy? Just cause you’re there doesn’t mean God is in you. Also, agree that he answered a question that provoked the conversation.
Church is wack. The separation, the judgement, the "holier than thou," attitudes are wack. True Christianity and having real relationship with God is awesome. I get Tye's point and love the conversation that it is bringing up. Hopefully, it will lead to change.
Exactly. Most people are avoiding the real issue at hand and focusing on the platform of where it was said which is pointless. Totally ignoring the real issues
Unfortunately I think it will just promote more conversations at this time.. we honestly just need people to pass on to the upper room at this point. Leaders of church, the country, the state gov offices, city offices, they are holding onto positions of power for DEAR LIFE. We need reform in so many areas of the country and the major religions of the country are no exception. But for now, we’ll keep talking
Honestly, what your saying is that certain people in life no matter the location are wack because every single reason you mentioned is also found outside the church.
What Angel is missing in Tye’s statement is the ideology that religion is man-made whereas RELATIONSHIP with Christ is what we as Christians are supposed to have. It’s not meant to be a shot at the history of what religion has been, but kind of yes at the same time. “Religion” is what put Jesus on the cross. “Religion” is what prompted mass genocide of people who had a different religion than the powers that be. I, too, also grew up in the church and was not looking for validation of any sort about why I do not go to church, but I 100% understood what Tye Tribbett meant by everything that he said. Lastly, the Breakfast Club is not the proper audience because you don’t know their upbringing? How is that relevant? Are they not allowed to think that church has become whack because of their own beliefs and experiences? All love, but those who have stepped away from the church because of hurts and offenses don’t need outside validation because stepping away was already hard enough to begin with. Tye Tribbett said what he said and he said it where he said; the people who edited it and clipped it may have done so to be facetious but Tye’s feelings and statements are beyond valid. ❤❤
I don't think she missed the point because that's what she initially said. Her other point was saying that people who already didn't believe or were on the fence would use this as ammunition to validate how they already felt.
@@crystaltruitt4523but it does validate them. They were able to come to that conclusion by watching how those in the church move in and outside of it so to hear someone from inside speak to it, it can validate that and that’s ok. If people think it’s ok to validate someone who thinks church and religion saved them, then be prepared to also have views of the opposite because they both exist.
@crystaltruitt4523 those people you describe have so many other things to validate their beliefs it doesn't even matter...everything there is a story about a pastor engaging in inappropriate relationships...validation, a mother pastor building a mega church in a poor area...validate the list goes on.
Kev is 1000% correct. You can critique something that you love to make it better and you can have these conversations everywhere. You cannot control how people respond to it.
100% agree with kev. Black ppl dont like our mess and problems being talked about "out loud" or in public, to the point where we shun other black ppl that have the balls to actually speak about why there are problems, especially if ANY of those problems are caused by other black ppl. How the hell can we stick together and fight, when we literally punch each other back down wherever we asked for help against others that match our skin. We don't even have to go far in our history to see examples, the Katt williams interview was just another one. Black ppl will die on a hill trying to block any wrongs famous black ppl do to other black ppl. Oprah, Bill cosby, R kelly, the list is much longer than most even realize.
Totally agree! This was a topic on TikTok about a girl who said she is scared of crash outs from the hood. Some people in the comment made it seem like she said it was everyone from the hood.
I do not like when people make comments and they didn’t listen to the whole podcasts..You have to listen to the whole conversation for true context. I agree with Kevin.
I think he was very clear and people who don't go to church already felt what Tye was speaking on. Yes to Kirk saying it as well. I agree with Kev. I grew up as a JW kid and eventually went to Baptist church. Your personal relationship with God is your personal relationship and that is so lost in Church. I hear people praise their Pastor more than Jesus and I totally feel like Christianity is a business to pimp God & Jesus.
Tye wasn’t worried about clicks he was speaking truth. If “the church” worried about looking bad they need to stop being bad and expecting ppl not to say so.
I think the reality is that church is filled with sinners. It will Never stop having this aspect of bad because even people that go to church are not perfect. And if people are waiting for that to happen in order for them to go to church, they will literally be waiting until the day they die because it will never happen. And on one hand people say the church is hypocritical because they like to appear perfect, but then people shame the church for that very same thing. And it’s exhausting to say the least. The church is darned if they do and darned if they don’t.
I'm with Kev on this one. As a believer and a regular listener of TBC, think it was a good conversation to have because you don't know what God's intentions were to place him there and have it.
To deconstruct is to be uncomfortable. For Churchy people, it’s kind of like someone saying something *not so great* about your parents that’s actually true. It’s uncomfortable but it may be necessary once we grow up and see that our parents are just people. Maybe our parents need to learn how to speak to service people a bit better. Maybe the Church needs to rethink certain aspects of their function. 🤷🏽♀️
Tye has suffered from depression and interacts with people from all walks of life & all across the world. He has *valid* points. Many people feel more at peace once they've deconstructed than when they're _in_ the church. I can't imagine what it'd be like to have actual family in the church. I support Tye
I am so glad that he posted that He HAS been saying it in the church. It’s funny when church business is placed in the main media it forced the home grown churches that weren’t having the conversation forced the conversation. The main point is the conversation needed to be had
I 100% agree with Tye and Kevin: the systems and the institutions of the church are WHACK. He was very clear in what he meant. Hit dogs just hollering 🤷🏽♀️
Nothing wrong with admitting your point was wrong based on what was factually said. Not saying “hypothetically I’m not wrong if he did say that”.... I’m like ninja what??? 😂😂😂
Tye was not responsible for what editors decided to clip together. He was in the midst of a conversation, and he has no control over “nuance” on a show he does not produce. He can clarify all he wants but ppl will still get offended, and pick apart his words. If you get the message you get it, if you don’t you don’t.
As a PK, who has been in church ALL my life, I understood Tye's sentiments because actual CHURCH is the people not a building, HOWEVER, he could have stated it differently lol because he just said "even though I grew up in it and benefited from it..." that negates everything because actual church is serving, loving, giving, and being a community of people who love God, his people, and just want to follow Christ and do His will. Furthermore, church people would’ve been upset even if he explained it to a t. I wish we (church people) would stop making the choice to be obtuse in these moments. Instead of being upset at the critique, why not use it as an opportunity to start the conversation??
I love Angel but she just didn't get it. She's stuck on his intention and where he said it. He did not go to there to make the statement about the church. He went there, was asked a question, and he answered it. Period.
The issue is that folks conflate church with religion/faith. Church isn't Christianity. It's a place or institution that facilitates the teachings of a religion/ideology. Christ and God are everywhere. Are there churches and pastors that facilitate true community and who have actually helped its congregation (and not just the church leaders) to advance in their lives, yes. But, there are also many that have not, and that's what Tye was speaking to.
Yeah, I understood exactly what he was saying from the beginning. I think everyone should watch the full episodes for CONTEXT before assuming, misconstruing and judging. Y’all did great on the recap and reflection of the episode. Thanks Kev and Angel!
I want to say this... people leave the church becsuse the road of obedience to God is narrow. I had a very close friend who always said she admired my faith tell me a dream she had about how she was driving in the dark and couldn't see, until she saw me, and I was trying to direct her to the light. I knew what that meant and really tried my best to support her without judgement or being pushy. She eventually found a church home, but was always so skeptical. One day someone told her a truth about her life she didn't like and she left the church and stopped talking to me, all becsuse we loved her enough to tell her the truth! We haven't talked ever since. It is their choice to walk away from God. They were never thinking of the church.
More and more people have left the church for the reasons tye spoke. So I think it's good for people to see that there are others who share thoughts about the church and that there are places where they can go that share their beliefs and where they can still worship.
I agree with Tye’s statements wholeheartedly. A personal relationship with Christ should not be attached to a building or a minister. I also agree with Angel & Kev’s points that there are some nuances to the conversation that could be missed by the Breakfast Club audience based on clips for clicks. To be fair I think people who didn’t get what he was saying after he clarified will not get it because they don’t want to.
I literally saw I video yesterday..where the pastor had his congregation repeat over and over "fill me daddy...fill me daddy". Now where they do that at? I love me some God but church homes are not what they used to be.
Ty explained himself perfectly and his relationship with God. Don't discuss something if you didn't watch the whole interview. This is the problem with the world. Kevin thank you for listening to the whole interview. People need to stop disrespecting and dissecting people's opinions.
I agree 100% with Tye and kev. But I can also agree when she said say it on the reunion tour. I agree with everyone. My question to angel is, is the problem the persons message or how people will respond and have responded? Can’t blame the responses of people.
The title of this video is the reason I clicked it. In the same way, I see it being very possible that Tye made his statements to bring people into a discussion. Either way, I love watching mature adults respectfully disagree and have safe space to speak how they feel. Thank you all for this discussion! ❤
Love this! Like you Kev, I watched the entire interview and I think it was fantastic! If people watched the entire thing they would see and understand it more. I love Ty and Kirk and the stance that it's about the body of Christ and the fellowship of believers gathering wherever. I love my church FBCG, but we are taught to develop dynamic disciples which happens any and everywhere, not just in the building. Kev made some EXCELLENT points!!!! "We shouldn't reserve critiques of the church for only church pulpits." Amen!
I can't stand when people try to act like folks are unreasonable when they say "This is why I don't go to church." Yall know good and doggone well people don't mean that specific reason. They mean is decades upon decades of PATTERNED BEHAVIOR that makes them not want to to be bothered with church.
I have really enjoyed hearing the two of you discuss topics that you have differing opinions on. Healthy debate stretches the mind and when done with mutual respect, it's pretty enjoyable to watch and engage in.
I agree with Angel. As someone who grew up In church and church is still a pillar in my life, I understand what Tye was saying BUT the Breakfast Club is not the place for that conversation.. The Breakfast Club’s platform is to stir up drama. If it wasn’t they wouldn’t have chopped and clipped his comments in the way they did as Kevin mentioned. I think if Tye Tribbett wanted to make those comments on that show he needed to be more intentional in his delivery.
It’s like that one time Maddie Mae clark got told she couldn’t be the choir Director anymore because of the dress she wore at the Grammys with her daughters performing
Angel is proving tyes point. People hold the church and religion up too high. It is all man made. Nothing about these institutions or religions has anything to do with what we were places on this earth to do or be. It’s like arguing on behalf of a corporation
Fully agree with Kevin and the deflection away from the message onto how & where Tye delivered it is why things take so long to progress. Total derailment each time Kev tried to bring it back to the critique that churchy folk claim is welcome. Frustrating.
31:46 Angel I think the verbatim he said was "....the religious structure is wack", which I think is a nuanced way of talking about the CURRENT status of the structure of religion; and I think it's distinctly different than "I think religion is wack".
Church numbers are on a steady decline for a reason, we are seeing the truth of what religion is. Angel comes off as stubborn when it comes to this topic. It’s not even the church that caused me to stray it was me thoroughly reading my Bible that caused me to step back it is highly flawed and divisive.
Angel saying its not the place but Tye has been preaching this in CHURCHES for years and nobody cared...so it took a secular platform to get people talking. Point made.
USA church-goers sometimes fuss about the most interesting things. It is kinda funny that the citizens of a nation which harps on about freedom (in general) and freedom of speech, is so quick to police speech (or where the speech was delivered). That is the opinion of one man. Sure he happens to be an influential musician and pastor, but he is a single church-goer. In my opinion, Tye spoke the truth. It is a truth I truly relate with. My 2 years attending church in Texas accelerated my feelings on how the institution of church and religious system (not faith) has lost the plot.
I am amazed at the expectations we place on each other. We want so much that we are not willing to give. If we showed grace on both sides and not expect perfection from esch other and walked on love and forgiveness, we could accomplish so much together. I've been in my church for 17 years. Its not typical for a millenial, but I'm blessed to have walked through many seasons in the same place. I wish others could experience that.
I totally get and understand what Tye was saying and I also understand Angel's point as well, there wasn't enough space or time for him to fully get to his meaning behind "the church is whack" as someone who seemed to live at the church i get what Tye was meaning.
Undeniably, Reesa Teesa gave us a well-told story. For this reason alone she deserves accolades and talent contracts, even more for revelation of actual trauma. Introduce her to Churchy, Tyler Perry, Mara Brock Akil, Tracey Oliver, Shonda Rhimes, et. al.
I stopped attending at 17, I was raised S.D.A. and it was extremely oppressive and harsh. Once I came out of it and became more spiritual than religious, that's when my life changed. And let's not forget, Christianity in the United States (and other places) was used to oppress not to uplift.
The church is VERY necessary and is MUCH needed. The main point of the church is fellowship, worshipping, learning, and praying. However, I do understand people's negative thoughts against mega churches because most go against those principles and are more centered around money. BUT, the church in general is very much so necessary and needed.
I agree. The Bible tells us not to forsake the gathering of ourselves. I am reignited and energized by church attendance, worship, engagement, praise, and service weekly. I get church hurt and the foolishness that can happen in church; but God meets me there in tangible ways.
Tye said the institution of Religion is wack...and in my opinion No lies were told💯

Yeah, I understood exactly what he was saying from the beginning. I think everyone should watch the full episodes for CONTEXT before assuming, misconstruing and judging. Y’all did great on the recap and reflection of the episode. Thanks Kev and Angel!
Religion has been a political tool since at least Constantine
Salute to HTT for FINALLY doing like every other youtube channel and playing a video clip instead of being ghetto and putting his phone to the mic.
😂
Damn 😅
Everyone starts somewhere lol
I was thinking the same thing 😂.
Not that serious
Telling someone when and how to express what they feel or their experience is wack!!
The consistency whilst touring is greatly appreciated 🙌🏽
I heard it the way Kevin heard it. He isn’t talking about the body, he is talking about the institution, and all the politics that go along with it.
AWARD WINNING PODCAST HERE'S THE THING🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
What the fk 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
😳😳😳
I have an aunt that refers to God as ‘daddy’ and it gives me ick 😖😖
CONGRATULATIONS WELL DESERVED!!! I love this podcast!
This was such a great conversation! I love to see it. Keep shining, we need these mature conversations with respectful nuanced perspectives.
BIG CONGRATS on winning the NAACP!!!💕💐well deserve
Ty explained himself perfectly and his relationship with God. Don't discuss something if you didn't watch the whole interview. This is the problem with the world. Kevin thank you for listening to the whole interview. People need to stop disrespecting and dissecting people's opinions.
Thank you!! I was looking for this comment.
I truly don't think he 'planned' on saying it. More like responding to a question.
Right, and no one can predict how they’ll be edited.
Same
I agree 100% with Tye and kev.
@thatchickangel: “What Tye said was reckless”
Also thatchickangel: “Twerk for Jesus”
😂😂😂😂
On Tye..Angel is on point. Totally agree.
CONGRATULATIONS HTT!!! 🥳🙌🏾🙏🏾🎬👼🏾📸
Great Job Kevin! Angel got it wrong and didn’t want to admit it. Plain and simple. We understood Tye and we understood you.
I can't stand when people try to act like folks are unreasonable when they say "This is why I don't go to church." Yall know good and doggone well people don't mean that specific reason. They mean is decades upon decades of PATTERNED BEHAVIOR that makes them not want to to be bothered with church.
Kev, I agree 💯with your standpoint
I have really enjoyed hearing the two of you discuss topics that you have differing opinions on. Healthy debate stretches the mind and when done with mutual respect, it's pretty enjoyable to watch and engage in.
Congratulations HTT fam!! So well deserved! Proud of y’all! 🎉🎉
I agree with both of you concerning Tye Tribbett's comment. And I got what Tye meant when he said it.
I agree with you
This was such a wonderful conversation!
I have a problem with Angela’s opinion since she hasn’t listened to entire interview. How can you form an opinion off 45 seconds?
That's what I'm saying lol 😂
The point is....Angel didnt even watch the full podcast 😂😂😂. Sis you gotta watch everything first.
I agree with Angel. As someone who grew up
In church and church is still a pillar in my life, I understand what Tye was saying BUT the Breakfast Club is not the place for that conversation..
Totally Agree Angel. It felt like click bait, SMH.
Good morning. I agree with Tye especially after dating a pastor.
Spill the tea!!!!🍵
"Who the ordained did I date" - Ep 1...LEGGOOOO!
@@adhd_alchemy girl the story is crazy but Teesa got me beat.
😂😂😂 Girl....crazy is crazy and we welcome it all. No competition....just different flavors.
Same. I would have an bestseller, but would need to fictionalize it
Congratulations on your NAACP win. It is well deserved.
Angel is proving tyes point. People hold the church and religion up too high. It is all man made. Nothing about these institutions or religions has anything to do with what we were places on this earth to do or be. It’s like arguing on behalf of a corporation
Kevin mouthing to the dog to shut up gave me life!🤣😂🤣😂
As I mature in Christ my views changed! And that's how I see Tye
Side note: the silent ‘Monty! HUSH!’ got me crying 🤣
I liked the debate style you all had going for the Tye topic
Fully agree with Kevin and the deflection away from the message onto how & where Tye delivered it is why things take so long to progress. Total derailment each time Kev tried to bring it back to the critique that churchy folk claim is welcome. Frustrating.
31:46 Angel I think the verbatim he said was "....the religious structure is wack", which I think is a nuanced way of talking about the CURRENT status of the structure of religion; and I think it's distinctly different than "I think religion is wack".
The church is inside us, the building is just where we come to minister to God and praising Him and fellowship with other Believers.
We literally talked about critiquing the church last Sabbath and used that reference Kev @15:28
Well said
CONGRATULATIONS YALL!!! 👏🏾
Side note: Angel is so freaking pretty!! 😍❤️
I completely agree with Tye’s statement!! It needs to be said on all platforms. Church people listen to the Breakfast Club podcast too.
Thank you! Need this boost to start off the workday.
I totally get and understand what Tye was saying and I also understand Angel's point as well, there wasn't enough space or time for him to fully get to his meaning behind "the church is whack" as someone who seemed to live at the church i get what Tye was meaning.
When she said Kevon On Stage, and then Angel went to the bottom of the screen and all we saw was the top of her head..... I AM CRINE 🤣🤣🤣
Congrats on the award!!!! I agree with Tye
It’s not needed the most anointed, devoted Christians I’ve ever met do not go to church.
I agree. The Bible tells us not to forsake the gathering of ourselves. I am reignited and energized by church attendance, worship, engagement, praise, and service weekly. I get church hurt and the foolishness that can happen in church; but God meets me there in tangible ways.
but a lot of people have had terrible experiences with smaller churches too. it's not just the mega churches
needed for what
