  • This was purchased with the intention of pulling a few parts off of it for another project.
I was starting the teardown and was able to get the engine to turn over after a little fussing,
I decided to record the troubleshooting and share it with you all.
Sadly this bike is waaaaaaaay beyond being able to salvage. other than the powertrain itself every component, including the frame itself is badly damaged.
Wont be able to drive this one.
Thanks for watching and please like and subscribe if you want to go on more adventures like this.

Poor thing looks like it was run over. I have 6 of these, 1 very good, 1 good, 2 nice, 2 parts bikes, but one of the parts bikes runs pretty good but needs crank bearings. Yamaha put a lot of engineering into this bike. Shaft drive, oil injection, cdi ignition, full size handlebar controls and decent breaks. They are durable and last a long time. Thanks for your time and video

these are great bikes, well engineered for the most part. a lot simpler and more robust than a lot of similar sized bikes. starting system is way better than the honda express. ive got a good running example that i plan on restoring on the channel.

I have worked on similar conditions. I do exactly what you did, bypass all the wiring, just hook up the CDI, check spark, spray WD40 or LPS in the plug hole and turn the engine over a few times and install plug. Remove carb and squirt some mixed gas, heavy on the oil mix 30 to 1, in the intake and crank it over to see if it lights off. You can leave the carb on if you want and just spray the gas in the carb throat. If it has ok compression and spark, they usually run. If the crank seals and bearing are good it will run. I would like to have one of these engines mounted into a full suspension mountain bike with really low gears for creeping up the trail.

Thanks for the video, very good information, I’m struggling right now trying to get mine back together and now I can try to bypass strait to the CDI to see if it’s the engine or my wiring, are you selling any CDI’s, controller unit? Ignition coils? Magneto anything from that bike?
