I love and greatly appreciate how free you are with your knowledge. I find your vlogs very educational. May God keep you and yours safe in these uncertain times.
Thank you and I hope the same for you!
I just enjoy seeing your way of life on your large ranch. I was born and still live on my dad’s small farm in South Carolina, please keep the videos coming. It’s so interesting to learn about the birthing of your beautiful horses.
Fricken fascinating stuff!!
We bred 2 mares, 1 about a week ago and the second about 11 days ago, timing was excellent I was really nervous about the pregcheck coming up here shortly, but your video eased my nerves a bit, so Thanks.
First time watching your channel. I love horses. I have just subscribed. Ty for the work you do.
👍👍 interesting.
Great vid!!! The whole process is fascinating!!!!

Sage is a gorgeous mare I love her color
Seeing things I've never had the opportunity to see so thank you for all your educational videos.
Thanks for watching!
So enjoying your content!! Thank you for sharing your heaven on earth with us! 😇
AI is really a fascinating tool for producing excellent quality colts. Thanks for the clear, descriptive video.
Fascinating
Absolutely awesome video enjoy the process really informative love it keep em coming
Thanks!
I like how you don't fiddle fart around with what you're saying. Straight to the information and back out. Love it!
I always thought foals needed to stay with their mother for at least a year, I'm curious how the mares deal with multiple little ones when you breed back to back or do you pull the foals from their moms' really young?
A mare won't have more than 1 foal with her at a time. 4-7 months is when most will wean. Even if an owner doesn't wean the foal, the mare will wean the foal about 10 months so her body will start to produce colstrom for the new foal.
Plus a mare is pregnant for 11 months so by the time that new foal comes around the older one is definitely old enough to wean
Always educational. Thanks
Hello Jason absolutely love your videos sorry I’m late I’ve been sick 🤕
Interesting and educational. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you got some 🌧. Hopefully we’ll get some all over NM very soon.
Great video as always. Y’all do a great job.
👍👍
Very informative thank you for your hard work.
It's interesting how you work with the horses 🐎
Very cool Jason! Glad you got some rain sir!
Could you go over different ways to cycle the mares and why you might use one method over another if you do. I liked the protocol you used in this and the way you explained the details so it’s more digestible. Plus you got them all pregnant so that’s icing on the cake. Thank you for the information.
There's really only 2 ways to get a mare AI'ed (that I know of).
1: would be to let the CL progres normally for about 15 days during the Diestrus phase of the mares estrus cycle. After the CL has reached the end of its life it regresses due to the PGF2a released by the mares uterus the estrous phase thrn starts where the mare is receptive to the stallion due to the rising estrogen levels and LH from the folicals growing in the mares ovaries, the stallion will then breed her until she ovulates (usually about 5 to 7 days) after she ovulates the ovulated follicle then becomes a CL and the process is repeated.
2: would be to let the CL mature (about 5 days) then administer a shot of PGF2a or Ludylice so the the CL starts regressing manually (this is known as short cycling) after the CL is no longer present the folicals start growing, after a dominant folical reaches the size of 35mm a shot of Deslorelin is administered or HSG, the mare then ovulates within about 30 hrs and some people will then AI on the 24 hour mark and again after she's ovulated and some people prefer to only AI once. These are the 2 main ways of AI'ing a mare there are some small things that some people or vet may do differently but the process stays ruffly the same. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Interesting.👍❤️🇨🇦
Good stuff
i sure appreciate your science... congrats on that percentage & blessing'Z aLLover those mares! thankYou [have fun with theCopterZ]
Love your channel! It's fascinating and you make it so easy to learn. Keep em coming!!
You may have said in a previous video but how did you learn the process of AI? The babies are growing! I can't believe how big they are! As always thanks for the video.
Can you do a video on how the ultrasound works and exactly what we are looking at. I like the way you teach. I seem to understand it better. Thanks
Thanks! There is a video on ultra sounding. There is a horse video and a cow video where we are explaining.
@@themendotaranch ok I will look for it. Thanks :)
Can you make a video of your hay equipment and putting up hay process?
👍
The horse that you ultrasound named Ruby is that Ruby Tuesday DNA ?
How large does a cyst have to get before it interferes with the being pregnant.
Do you keep or sell the colts?? How many horses do you have on the ranch. Horses fascinate me...living in the city I don't get to see them up close! Always wanted to go horse back riding but still haven't....I'd probably hurt something now!! lol (I just turned 50!)
Does the timing of the breeding during the cycle influence the sex of the foals? I know this works in dairy goats, but am interested to see if it works the same way in horses.
Do you ever use regumate for mares? Would love another video about meds for embryo transfer and pregnancy
you can't show target shooting anymore??
Do you private sell your broke colts or do you send them to auction? I'm very interested in getting one next year
Can you recommend anyone in South Texas that A.I.s mares?
Have you ever cloned an animal from history to bring back those genetics - just as an example one like Secretariat or Doc Bar? I watched the ep on the Przewalski's horses and made me curious what else y'all might have done.
Does it make it easier to differentiate between embryos and cysts by size when you check close the 13 day or is that your usual time frame so you can re AI soon as possible if needed.
The difference between a cyst and a 12‐14 day pregnancy is usually pretty obvious, Cysts don't retain their shape when you move the probe around where as a pregnancy stays perfectly spherical also Cysts look more like a tiny brain. And you should know to expect a cyst from previous ultrasounds if your AI'ing a mare.
Will Ruby need Regumate given her age?
Question, what do you do for the cysts
Its normal for women to have cysts right before or during or periods so I wonder if the same is for horses??
But cysts can cause problems too? Maybe not in horses?
@@NancyB35 equine cysts are in the uterus which can impede maternal recognition. This is equivalent to uterine fibroids in humans.
Why does she have cysts?? Is that an issue that needs further medical consideration?
Is there a way to find out if the horse is pregnant when I dont have all of those tools
You can palpate them if you know how.
Is there a waiting list to buy one of these foals from your ranch ?
How often can/should horses be bred?
With AI do you ever do ground collecting on a stallion instead of using the dummy?
I was wondering, how far along does an embryo get before youre out of abortion risk? I mean Id assume theres always a chance but is there a time frame of where its most risky and also what do you look for to identify what could risk an abortion or an imminent abortion and lastly what is the procedure should a mare end up aborting? Ive always wondered but never had anyone to ask.
Like you said there's always risk of abortion. Early pregnancy is when you're most at risk which is typically before the placenta takes over maintaining the pregnancy (100 to 120 days).
No real procedures other than evaluating the fetus and membranes to determine cause of abortion such as defects or signs of infection.
Did these mares all come in season at the same time naturally or can you program them like sheep or cattle?
I'm interested in AI can you tell me where to go to school and learn how to do this but only want to just learn that and collect stud???
The cyst don’t interfere with pregnancy?
Normally no, but if they're too big or too many of them they can starve the embryo of blood supply after fixation and cause it to die and fall off, thus resulting in a failed pregnancy.
That was very interesting .. l have no idea about horses or their pregnancies, how long is a horse pregnancy ?
Around 11 months I think!
@@MichylaGreene Thank you
Why didn't you let them do it naturally?
He has explained that in previous videos….
@@NateLeeProductions that's great. I just happened upon this video. Haven't seen any others.
Doc can inseminate multiple mares from one collection, and he has total control of the process. His horses are too valuable to risk injury with live cover.
@@cicibradley2809 thank you for just answering the question! Appreciate you.
