It's so cool to me that we live in a time where a classic Japanese ghost story masterpiece like Ugetsu can get a high quality 4K home video release alongside something like Anora. This is the golden age of movies for me, even though I don't see many movies in theaters anymore.
Very convenient timing for me with Chungking Express considering I did my Wong Kar Wai deep dive this month and watched the majority of his films, very excited for this 4K! Surprised you haven't seen any of his films, enjoy your viewings! You won't forget them.
I think I’ve seen all of these types of videos from you, but it just occurred to me how good it is as a format. It’s an update/reaction like a lot of RUclipsrs do, but there’s an extra added element of the game. Great idea. Just wanted to say. I thought it would be cool to do a game of trying to guess the movie by reading what’s listed under Related Films.
You haven't seen any Wong Kar Wai's DJ???? Chungking Express is an absolute must own. Highly highly highly highly highly recommend. It is a Top 10 Favorite Film of All Time for me.
Most excited for Anora and Basquiat for sure. I was surprised by how much of a comedy Anora actually is, very funny, I had a good time with it. Deserving of its awards notice.
SUPER stoked for both the Anora + Prince of Broadway releases. I own all of Sean Baker’s films on Blu-Ray (including the CC Take Out release) so this is a perfect combo. BOTH will come with 2 audio commentary’s too. Palme D’Or seems to be an automatic CC release.
Hooray for John knowing 5 or 6 of the releases. Excellent month. first time for 7 releases usually 5 or 6 releases. This month was supposed to be 5, so we got two extra releases this month. JEAN de FLORETTE and MANON OF THE SPRING are excellent films and the #1 pick for the month. Looking forward to watching ANORA. Kino also lost the rights to the following releases that Criterion has most likely picked up to release in 4K: Dressed to Kill / The Great Escape / In the Heat of the Night / Killer's Kiss / The Killing / The Manchurian Candidate / The Night of the Hunter and Paths of Glory. And possibly, Silence of the Lambs. So sorry to hear about David Lynch passing. Did you see the news about Imprint doing ARGONAUTS
CHUNKING EXPRESS in my favorite film of the nineties. So, that's the one I'm most excited about. Criterion actually did two Blu-Ray releases of this film. Both transfers were controversial. The first because it wasn't seen as much of an upgrade over the DVD. And the second for being too dark. Maybe this will be the Goldilocks edition.
I snagged a bunch of those Kino 4Ks because they’re officially OOP now. They were going for $7.99 - $9.99 each, so I had to get them. Kino had that going OOP sale a couple of weeks ago.
It's so frustrating being a UK-based Criterion fan. We're seemingly not getting No Country for Old Men over here so who knows what we'll get out of these latest releases
Excited most for Basquiat, I love that movie, seen it many times and have a dvd that’s due for a proper upgrade, especially since it has both b/w and original (color) theatrical cut. Also Anora is a good choice to get a current film in the Criterion collection.
C'mon fellas, many of these restorations have been around for a while now. Most of them have been on the Criterion channel with the supplements, 4K not withstanding of course, but that upgrade is relatively subliminal. If you haven't seen these or don't own them already, then you're only casual cinephiles at best. ANORA is the only big deal in this batch of 7. I wish Criterion would re-release Sergei Bondarchuk's WAR AND PEACE in 4k, because they totally ruined the 6-track stereophonic sound on the initial blu-ray release.

A N O R A !
Hyped for the 4K!
Jean de Florette/Manon of the Spring sounds cool-like a French take on East of Eden.
Really excited for Anora and Prince of Broadway getting Criterions!
Bruh!! You guys need to watch Anora ASAP

Great video as always! I love the guessing game 😊
Chunking and Anora are must buys.
Excited to see 2 Sean Baker movies enter the collection, especially "Anora".

Great decision.
Excited for some like it hot
I really hope this means we will get a nice release of The Florida Project from Criterion sometime soon. :) Solid releases in this announcement!
John, David Bowie was Tesla in the prestige. Come on, man. Haha. Seriously, though, your knowledge of film is astounding. Great job, man.
A great slate hopefully we get some of these in the UK. Still need to see chunking express hopefully picking up the WKW boxset soon.

"Basquiat" has a fantastic cast. Also, gotta pick that up.
It’s a great movie
I'm also not a big Sean Baker fan, but Anora is fantastic. And Tangerine as a Christmas movie? Sigh...
Such a great selection, not sure when we'll be getting them in Ireland though haha
This is an expensive month as I will be purchasing
1. Anora
2. Some Like it Hot
3. Chungking Express
4. Jean de Florette / Manon of the Spring

Hmmm, Chungking and Ugetsu without HDR/Dolby Vision.
I personally cannot wait to buy Chungking Express in 4k!!!
Kudos to criterion for landing Anora soon. Good business move for them
At least five 4K releases every month in 2025 so far, this is only the second time they’ve released six in one month (Nov 2024 was the first)
I watched Ugetsu the other week, not as good as I hoped, but still good 8/10
I saw Anora in the theater so that's gonna be a purchase from me. It was in my top 10 movies of 2024.
My wallet is happy!
my wallet is happy about the new UK releases ;)
Yep. Bought some yesterday when the news dropped. Bye bye budget.

Please don't say Anora come with this fragile stupid digipack? 😢 I had hopes that Criterion would stop with these
