Born in 1960, Neo Rauch is a contemporary painter who continues to work and reside in his hometown Leipzig, Germany. He is best known for his characteristic figurative imagery combined with surreal abstraction. Rauch paints from the heart. Every painting starts out without a preconceived idea of the end result. Painterly intuition, virtuoso brushstrokes, and a vast array recurring subjects and motives populate the often romantic, yet existential, landscapes and settings of his paintings. Marked by enigma, his compositions often consist of various human characters, animals or art historical references. His palette is uniquely recognizable, using strong contrasts and complementary colors. Rauch breaks open the perspective, which would almost make you dizzy by staring through these paintings as windows to another world.

Julien Delagrange is an art historian, contemporary artist, and the founder and director of CAI. Delagrange studied Science of Arts at Ghent University, Belgium, and worked for the Centre for Fine Arts (BOZAR) in Brussels, the Jan Vercruysse Foundation, the Ghent University Library, and has contributed to the international contemporary art scene as an art critic, lecturer, curator, gallery director, consultant, advisor, and as an artist. As an artist, he is represented by Galerie Sabine Bayasli in Paris, France, and Gallery Space60 in Antwerp, Belgium.

OMG, I love his stuff so much. When I look at Neo Rauch paintings I feel like I'm in a dream (hate to say it, but maybe even more than Dali, whom I adore) or maybe I'm a part of a Tori Amos song, with one idea floating into the next. Re: the comment on being repetitive, I personally think, well, that's cool - as long as you have more to personally explore about a subject, have at it!

Totally unfamiliar with this artist and his work. Pleased that you brought him to my attention. Most of the works shown, if seen in person, would require a large block of time to 'see'.

Don't hate on me, but he is repetitive painter. Same faces same silly themes same color contrasts on every single art piece!. These paintings could have been linked together in a comic book with captions added then called Monty python comics!
No hate at all! A good point in fact. I believe this happens often with successful artists. They develop a formula which works, which is at the same a strength but also a possible pitfall.
