YouTube's Fake Animal Rescue Channels

- There are seemingly no videos on RUclips more wholesome than animal rescues. But as it turns out, there may be a dark side to the genre. With some channels seemingly faking their rescues, purposefully putting animals in harms way, and straight up abusing animals.
These channels are currently operating, despite being part of this disturbing practice.

Jesus christ the first puppy looks exhausted and scared even when the kids pet him. It's obvious it didn't want to be there.
Not only that, but the way the kids are petting the dog, it looks like they don’t even know how to actually give affection. They’re just awkwardly smacking and rubbing it.
Oh yeah woo yeah all of it is sickening. the animals and the kids need to be taken away from the adults.

And also if you think logically, puppies are almost never abandoned just like that, and if that happens it is most likely with other puppies/dogs. Grown dogs are also much more likely to be abandoned than puppies.

Hey, am Vietnamese. I just reported the "The Rescue Journey tv" channel to the authorities, as I recognized the license plate and the language used in their videos to be Vietnamese. I will update this comment if anything crops up, or if their channel will get terminated. Thank you for bringing this to our attention Nick, animal abusers shouldn't have a place on this platform.

This problem is FAR worse now than it was then. BEWARE of ANY of these animal rescue channels who are asking for donations.
The only one that is acceptable is save a fox. Look at the body language of animals at sanctuarys.

It’s interesting also that the animals “rescued” are all young and cute, unlike legitimate rescue channels where the animals are often old, diseased, paralysed, etc.

As a student going into veterinary medicine, this is absolutely sickening. My entire life revolves around the care and treatment of animals, and to know that some people would purposefully hurt them just for clout feels like a punch in the face. It’s despicable, and people like this don’t deserve animals. 😔

I normally don’t waste my time replying to dipshits online but what the actual fuck is this? Please tell me you’re not watching this and then actually defending animal abuse… I truly hope that you don’t have any pets (or children, for that matter) because I fear how they would be treated if you have this sadistic and entirely nonsensical mindset.
First of all, the Bible cannot and should not be taken literally, especially not the Old Testament. Those stories are supposed to be metaphors, and you, sir, are clearly not getting the right message out of them. Second, even if it WAS, those texts are nearly three thousand years old. Civilization was VASTLY different, and their morals and way of life are incomparable to present day and cannot be used to justify current events. You know what else is in the Bible? Incest, rape/sexual violence, child marriage, genocide, and slavery.
Furthermore, if you’re still going to take it literally, then you should really try not to contradict yourself, because Proverbs 12:10 says, “Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel.” Having “dominion” over the animals is not an excuse to be cruel- you may use them for meat and/or labor, but you are ALSO supposed to be their caretaker. Your treatment of them reflects who you are as a person, so no- you cannot just do ‘whatever you want’ to them.
I’m not even religious and yet I seem to grasp this concept better than you. The core message of your faith is kindness, is it not? You’re doing a lousy job. Be compassionate to animals and people- it’s REALLY not that hard to be a decent human being. Have a nice day, and try to pull your head out of your own ass and look around once in a while. :)
I've rescued a baby kitten thrown on the side of the road. The thought of filming it or taking photos hasn't even crossed my mind until we fed and warmed it up.

i once did something like that too when i was a kid, found a kitten at the side of our house and i fed it with bread but after i went to sleep, my mother kept him in a box and just threw him in the grass, saddest day of my life ;(

I think RUclips needs to start verifying accounts for "animal rescue" and not just allow kids or random people to just upload videos of them "rescuing animals"

RUclips is the biggest culprit. They know very well what's going on, thousands of people report these videos yet nothing is done about it.
As long as it brings views $ youtube is fine with it.
Shortly after this trend became popular, Google has aggressively cracked down on this type of content and has included verbiage in their terms of use to prohibit this kind of content. None of these channels mentioned currently have such content on their channels.
RUclips supports these channels. They get flagged by loads of people and reported. Videos stay up.
So theres really only 2 possibilities. They dont see it as abuse... which come on 😂 or they support it. Pretty obvious which one it is.

Hey guys, I know this is difficult to watch and talk about. But I can't stand the idea of these channels being allowed to continue doing the horrible things they're doing... I've reported each of the channels and am looking into further steps we can take to get them shut down.
UPDATE: Happy dog has been deleting their videos in an attempt to cover this all up. I'll be discussing this in an update video.

Based on this video, here's some tips for people to try and spot fake rescue channels:
1) Oddly named "rescue", typically with the world "Animal" in it. For example, "Rescue Animal", "Animals RTG", or "Dog Cat Rescue". I don't know how to explain it, but the way these titles are phrased is awkward, like someone threw it together randomly in one day.
Clarification: Someone in the comments gave me a good tip on this, and I'd like to warn people not to jump to conclusions about a channel just because their English is bad. Always take all the evidence into account when you're trying to decide if you believe a rescue is genuine or fake.
2) Clickbaity titles.
3) Animals seem to recognise or react to the rescuers as if they know them.
4) Animals in unusual situations very often. I.e a cat trapped inside a tyre.
5) Photoshopped cover image.
6) The situation does not match the environment. For example, a fishing net in the middle of a random field with no water around, a car parked in the middle of nowhere.
7) Animal looks to be on the verge of death but is later shown to be fine. No recovery steps shown, there's just point A and point B with no inbetween.
8) Poorly explained scenarios in the description. I.e "big dog bites little dog but find him no", is not only confusing but very vague.
Clarification: Just like the first bullet point, keep in mind that sometimes scenarios can be poorly explained due to the poor English that the video makers have. Always take everything into account. By this, I mainly refer to the fact that the story is always a very vague story, not just that the English is confusing. The rescuers know what happened to the pet, but it is never shown in the video, they show themselves finding and rescuing the animal without showing anything about what actually happened.
9) Unqualified rescuers. You'll notice the people in these videos are normally children or random plain-clothes people without uniforms or proper rescuing tools.
10) They very quickly figure out how to remove the animal from that situation without difficulty.
11) They are not shown to give proper medical treatment to the animal. I.e they only put ointment on the puppy's injury in the above video and do not dress it with ANY sort of covering, no stitches for serious injuries, etc.
12) Similiar looking animals used in different videos.
13) The same location shown more than once.
14) They don't have proper accommodation for the "rescued" animals, it usually just appears to be some sort of random farmyard.
15) The same rescues happen multiple times. I.e, many snake rescues. How many snakes do you think are out there snatching dogs every week?
16) No details about the rescuers provided. The kids in the video are just referred to as "boy". No name, no info on where in the world they are, nothing. They don't want to be caught. Sometimes faces are hidden or not shown in the video.
17) (added in because of great suggestions below!!)
Manipulative music. If there is very sad music playing, ESPECIALLY when they are showing shots of the animal in pain, it is more than likely trying to capitalise on the injuries or suffering of the pet and play with your emotions.
18) Recording begins before the animal is discovered in many or most videos. How did they know to begin recording?
19) They claim to be in one location, but are most certainly located somewhere else. You can check this by watching out for license plates in the videos or by examining the surrounding foliage and the way bystanders walking by tend to be dressed, which gives you a hint about the temperature and/or culture of the location. Also keep an eye out to see what language is written on signs and other objects. Watch out if they accidentally slip up and reveal their true location at any points in the video. This can be a difficult one to pin down for some channels, as some are more careful about concealing location than others. Anyway, if a channel is lying about where they are, they are most certainly a fake rescue.
20) Heavily monetised videos, sometimes there can be 10 ads packed into a single video.
21) The "rescuers" only ever rescuing baby animals. They know baby animals will make them more money!
22) Extremely severe wounds that leave absolutely no scars when they are "healed". Most bad wounds would leave a trace.
23) They post in patterns, such as once a week or every three days. How come they "rescue" animals so consistently? Do these animals have a schedule for when they should suddenly need rescuing?

I recommend liking this comment so more people can see and call out/report them to the police or report them on RUclips, if you do, you'd be helping to the situation.
I feel like no one would really post that to RUclips at all. Their main objective is to get the animal to safety. It shouldn’t be to make sure the camera is rolling. I’m not saying all of them are fake, but the fact most of the “rescue” is caught on camera is kind of fishy. Maybe they could be posting the vids to spread awareness or raise funds but it still doesn’t sit right.

I agree! I am getting a Shih Tzu and Pug next month as babies and the thought of people hurting animals like them makes me angry! They are innocent no wrongdoing in their lives to even receive such harsh treatment. I can say the same for most animals as well. I am a huge dog and bird lover and people who do this to them or any animal, in general, are cruel and deserved to be locked up. How utterly gross that they suffer and are tortured for no reason at all. Gross and vial. A bunch of deranged horrible freaks!

I remember watching those vids in 2020 aspiring to be a vet tech and help animals.. quickly I noticed there was a suspicious amount of dogs almost every day in the same situations such as “tar” or random scars and such. Absolutely disgusting I hope all the channels get taken down.

Arghhhh! I have no words for how sick this makes me. This behavior is absolutely f%cking repugnant! I really hope EVERYBODY who takes the time to watch this video not only shares it with everybody they know, but also goes and reports these channels for blatant animal cruelty. This needs to be stopped immediately. These people are literally making money off of the OBVIOUS torture of these poor animals, and it's downright unacceptable. My fellow RUclipsrs, I beg you... PLEASE join me in reporting these assholes and getting this entire operation shut down as soon as possible.

this same thing happened a couple weeks ago on this app named “tiktok”. this young girl around 17-18 years old “found” some ducklings in a bucket of oil. but people caught on very quickly seeing the ducklings were in a bucket, yes bucket of oil. no ducklings would just end up perfectly in a bucket of oil. and she filmed herself “saving” one and cleaning it up. it disgusts me how humans treat animals. i have a baby lab myself and i would do absolutely nothing to hurt him or any animal for that matter. it also disgusts me how i’m only a minor, 14 years old and yet knows more to never ever hurt a animal than these disgusting adults in this video, or in the video from tiktok. i hope their moms are disgusted of how they raised them. smh.

Either way: leafy deserved it for talking dumb stuff for views and using clickbait like pokimane or whatnot for the money, hell, a while ago he actually had tons of youtubers working for him to make his videos for him, and they never got credited and, from what I've heard from one of the perspectives, were told they were just doing him a favor even though it was over 10 people each working on his videos to make them because he didn't want to put in the effort. the "cat channels" that do this are easy to spot based on your research. it always involves a cute kitten neglected or in need of help and they spend half the time just filming it in distress. a real rescuer would just pick up the victim or feed it asap without turning it into a dramatic situation designed to frame everything as a heroic operation. thanks for this 🙂

There has to be adults involved with this and them using kids for their videos so people can shift the blame on the kids but not on the adults when clearly the adults were most likely the ones who made these scenery. I'm a snake owner myself and snake attacks dont work like that, snakes never randomly attack anything bigger then what they can fit in their mouth, most often they choose to run away, and if they do bite, its brief, they never latch on like that unless they think its food. The only way for something like that to happen they would activly need to initiate a feeding response.

Poor babies. Thank you so much for covering this issue. Fake animal rescues/shelters are a thing as well. I've been researching shelters in my area and learned that one of them resells dogs from puppy mills and cheaper shelters for profit. Another one was also charged with animal abuse in another state because dozens of pets were found starving (including some that died). Yet despite animal abuse charges they were still granted an animal shelter license.
This is awfully disturbing. These channels are clearly fake and it’s terrible that they hurt these poor animals just for stupid views. Its unbelievable what people can do just to get views. Thanks for making this video. I didn’t know about these channels before now

The dog may have been scared, due to the people and since the dog didn’t know if the snake was venomous or dangerous in any ways.
So it made the viewers think that it’s real, and that snake will kill the dog, but in reality, it’s not venomous or dangerous is anyway.
They are constrictors though. Could it not theoretically constrict the dog...?

I have a dog who was probably abused. I got him from an animal shelter, and he is scared of every thing. I feel so bad for him. If only animal abusers had hearts
