Firing Up a P32AC-DM Genesis Locomotive @ Tarrytown (Hudson Shuttle)

  • Metro North crews restart a P32 after previously shutting down the locomotive. The train had completed a shuttle run from Poughkeepsie to Tarrytown some time ago and was not due to depart back to Poughkeepsie for another 45mins so to conserve fuel, locomotives where shut down upon arrival at Tarrytown.
    Due to the large Spytun Dyvil derailment earlier that day, Metro North was only able to provide train service from Poughkeepsie to as far south as Tarrytown. Instead of running the locals that usually depart Croton, Poughkeepsie trains ran normal schedule Poughkeepsie-Croton Harmon, then continued south to Tarrytown making all stops as a Shuttle (and vice versa).

    No announcements needed, it's when you hear that diesel starting you know it's time to aboard.

    Compared to the EMD screamers this is pretty much quiet.
    You have the turbo and the air compressor and thats pretty much it, and some chattering at low RPM.
    Just beautiful.

    I've done that many a time when I realized the door was not completely closed as engineers don't look at what the door looks like but look at the latch from the inside to make sure it is properly closed.

    This is a really nice video. I have never seen a Metro North locomotive start up before. Very interesting. Why couldn't the trains go as far south as Yonkers since that one of the major stations along the Hudson line.

    How can you tell the difference between a p42, p40, or p32????

    • @jaysmith1408
      @jaysmith1408 6 лет назад

      DolphinLegend 64 P32AC-DM's have larger vents in the lower rear than the P40 and P42's. Also note the extra window next to the rear facing door, it's for the hostlers (or switchers) to have a better view while reversing. They have the third rail shoes down on the trucks, and do not have a rear door into the passenger cars. The P40's and P42's are effectively identical. When built, the P40's had the same hostler windows as the P32's and strobes over the engineer's stand, but both have been removed during overhaul. The brakes on the P40 are mechanically controlled, as the P42's are electronic, but that is not noticeable. As it is now, the P40's have been tuned up to the power rating of the P42, so save the brakes (and the engine numbers) are identical to the P42's.

      Eren Jaeger no he wasn't charged because they found he had sleep apnea and they changed his scheduling on him from evening to morning shifts, he therefore fell asleep and only woke up to brake the train from 79mph (approximately) to 72mph before it jumped the rail.

      Impossible...He also must have been on drugs during it..He may have been stoned to death and pressed full throttle,THEN passed out!And then woke up and pressed full break,but was too late.That can be a possibility.
