Firing Up a P32AC-DM Genesis Locomotive @ Tarrytown (Hudson Shuttle)

- Metro North crews restart a P32 after previously shutting down the locomotive. The train had completed a shuttle run from Poughkeepsie to Tarrytown some time ago and was not due to depart back to Poughkeepsie for another 45mins so to conserve fuel, locomotives where shut down upon arrival at Tarrytown.
Due to the large Spytun Dyvil derailment earlier that day, Metro North was only able to provide train service from Poughkeepsie to as far south as Tarrytown. Instead of running the locals that usually depart Croton, Poughkeepsie trains ran normal schedule Poughkeepsie-Croton Harmon, then continued south to Tarrytown making all stops as a Shuttle (and vice versa).

No announcements needed, it's when you hear that diesel starting you know it's time to aboard.
The sound of that turbo coming online gets me every time.
Oh ya baby
Vuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh!
Compared to the EMD screamers this is pretty much quiet.
You have the turbo and the air compressor and thats pretty much it, and some chattering at low RPM.
Just beautiful.
These things are super powerful. Was waiting at the Yankees E-153 street station the other day on the mezzanine. One of these genesis locomotives passed under me and it literally shook the floor.
That’s American power for ya buddy
When they depart in diesel mode it’s gonna shale even more
@@wcrailstrains overall really. I know quite a number of foreign engines that put those to shame
Same thing happened to me at Fordham.
Cool video! The sound of power coming to life!
Lawrence Keesler Indeed! Especially the sound of the turbocharger!
Great audio as she spools up! Looks like an attractive station, too.
I can't wait to move to Poughkeepsie. Metronorth take my 560$ a month.
1:41 - Great horn.
I've done that many a time when I realized the door was not completely closed as engineers don't look at what the door looks like but look at the latch from the inside to make sure it is properly closed.
This is a really nice video. I have never seen a Metro North locomotive start up before. Very interesting. Why couldn't the trains go as far south as Yonkers since that one of the major stations along the Hudson line.
It said Philipse manor
2:08 - 2:17 nice turbo sound
Yes they both the same made by the same company
Nice K5LA Horn Greg
Very nice loco. I love the sound.
Love the sound of these. Nice video

1:42 whooooo weee, work on that 3rd generation horn yo! 🤙
1:40
thank you, this is what i've been looking for
That’s p32ac-dm 226 when it had a mechanical bell before it received an e-bell in October of 2020.
Oh yeah. I was actually the first one to catch it.
I wish the UK Class 60's had the GE 7FDL16 instead of the Mirrlees MB275T
Hi these videos are absolutely fantastic! Do you think you could get a few more start up videos of the p32acdm's ?
Very heavy and power engine it’s cool!
A very unique locomotive!
Get you a Gennie that can do both!
last tiem i saw a short genisis was at branchville headed to norwalk with p32 pushig
Congrats! Thanks!
The sound of a turbo is interesting to start.
This train is a god
1:41 Great train horn
Top song of turbo! Top! Top! 👍👍👍👏👏😀😀😀
What if Caltrain metra and Metrolink had the genesis that would be awesome!
I like trains! Congrats! Thanks!
Love your videos! Subscribed
They made the place from Zelda in to a real town?
How can you tell the difference between a p42, p40, or p32????
DolphinLegend 64 P32AC-DM's have larger vents in the lower rear than the P40 and P42's. Also note the extra window next to the rear facing door, it's for the hostlers (or switchers) to have a better view while reversing. They have the third rail shoes down on the trucks, and do not have a rear door into the passenger cars. The P40's and P42's are effectively identical. When built, the P40's had the same hostler windows as the P32's and strobes over the engineer's stand, but both have been removed during overhaul. The brakes on the P40 are mechanically controlled, as the P42's are electronic, but that is not noticeable. As it is now, the P40's have been tuned up to the power rating of the P42, so save the brakes (and the engine numbers) are identical to the P42's.
Also the p32s have third rail shoes as they are dual mode.
@@wilfstor3078 Not to mention that the numbers in the Genesis-Series's names (32, 40, 42 respectively) denotes the horsepower numbers made by its diesel motors.
Amtrak’s P42DC’s are Numbered 1 to 207. The P40DC’s are numbered 800 to 843 (15 of them are in service and 12 of them have been either sold or placed into storage). And the P32AC-DM’s are numbered 700 to 717.
@@wcrails that's not all. Some P42s are numbered 900-920 and some P32s numbered 201-231
Why'd he slam the door? Was kinda funny.
Its a she
@@sharoncampbell1109 That had nothing to do with his question.
The door probably wasn’t fully closed and/or locked.
Your door is ajar.
Mean v12 😎
The P32 doesn’t use an Air Compressor?
All locomotives have an air compressor. I don't know what you're implying.
I’m just asking because I didn’t hear the air compressor on it.
@@wcrails The air compressor is towards the rear and is not used to start the engine.
that is the train number 224 was wrecked in bronx spuyten duyvil in 2013
225
Go auntie u better drive that train💞😍😂
Sounded very Alco!

finishing touch with a 7FDL-8
Great !
Id wait until its time to go before fireing up the engine to conserve fuel.
Such a sad day to be a Metro-North employee.
Why is that?It must be fun inside a GE P32ACDM!
Because this was the day of or after that the Metro-North commuterrail jumped the tracks along the Hudson.
Firstclass91
OMG I REMEMBER THAT!!THE DRIVER WAS CHARGED AND SENT TO PRISON RIGHT?
Eren Jaeger no he wasn't charged because they found he had sleep apnea and they changed his scheduling on him from evening to morning shifts, he therefore fell asleep and only woke up to brake the train from 79mph (approximately) to 72mph before it jumped the rail.
GallardoFreak888
Impossible...He also must have been on drugs during it..He may have been stoned to death and pressed full throttle,THEN passed out!And then woke up and pressed full break, but was too late. That can be a possibility.
Hello!
looks like a repainted amtrak P42
ModernForever P32s are basically P42 with less power and some have the option to use electric power
ModernForever These are P32AC-DM locomotives made for MNCRR and Amtrak. They have the option to run on diesel or electric in certain territories.
ModernForever
They are from the same family of locomotives. These are basically P42's with 1,050 less HP, use alternating current traction, and have an option to run electric on third rail power.
Hay Jason
The solid front color helps to reduce the colossal ugliness of this locomotive.
Piss off dude.
