I understand. Many years ago late 1990s marklin made the BR 52 wartime grey. Even my marklin dealer does not have much Era 2 stuff he sold the Borsig Era 2 special BR 50 to some German guy visiting town and only has like the Era 2 BR 80, BR 01 39017 is nice. You might enjoy the Era 2 BR 96 marklin just released.
I have the following Era 2's right now: 37039 3901 37543 37050 37912 37816 37770 37816 37024 37051 and Santa just dropped off 37016 which is really nice detail and lots of sound functions!
I'm wondering if these locomotives with the MFX sounds and other electronics still functions on the analog transformer control from the starter set from 2009?

Yes the locomotive will move back and forth slow and fast you just cannot callup any of the digital sound hunctions
