This is one of many videos to come about my H23A swap for my 1991 Honda Accord. Applies to 1990, 1992, & 1993 also. Stay tuned for more...
Here's what helped me during my journey: amzn.to/3IAY3Uu - Авто/Мото
Nice to know I have a shop to go to as I'm also in SD.. I just installed an H23A Blue Top into my Prelude today and I'm hoping that it'll be running when I start it up sometime this week.
Nice! Good luck with your swap! 😁👍
Hey Kenneth, glad we were able to communicate. Hope you got your swap by now... Good luck, have fun, and stay safe!
They all are Automatic as well, which is good..mine put down 215... they are noticeably faster than the H22A..but it's preference ... Im N2 Bimmers now but I still love my CB7 bluetop
This guy rambles a little but seems to know his shit.
This has been a helpful video, Thanks Winston........
Both of my mech buddies are here in San Diego, and the shop where I got this motor from is in SD also...
Oh, that's not including the install itself. If you were to order from any other place, you'd still have to pay for shipping and tax. Also, being local to where I live, I was able to check out the swap with a mechanic buddy of mine before any deal was made. THAT was the most important thing for me...
Awesome job man please update on the swap. Love the work and well the price is pretty decent since they are doing all the labor and harness plus it's warranted. Just on the manifold how did you manage that did you use another manifold.
Had a buddy who had a buddy who had the downpipe I needed
am glad thus guy Ricky is in san diego i live in chula vista so fuck yeah as soon as i get my 93 accord am taking it there for an h23 swap SD. baby
Well, I will be using the stock tranny until it breaks, lol. But the motor, ecu, jumper harness, and all the tune-up / replacement parts totaled around $2k. I also have a 91 EX Accord, but it was already a 5-speed manual.
Omg dude i gotta see this bad ass cb with the h23a i bet it will fly everyone sleeps on that motor. What's trans you gonna use
Hey man I really enjoy watching your videos they are very interesting. I have a 92 accord ex all stock I'm thinking about putting an h22 or h23. Although I'm not going to lie I am still new at this and have some questions. Think you can answer some of them ?
94-97 accord 5 speed bolts right up to H23
95 accord h22 non vtech
Have 5 speed
What do i need to swap mine to a H23a vtech?
@Daddy sell me your non vtec block !!!
hey i got a jdm h22a, i refreshed it, is it normal to find like little flakes of aluminum gristle shit in the water jacket? assuming it was flashing coming off from the internal casting voids..
How much of the aluminum gristle was there? A little or a lot? Was it loose or caked on? How old was the engine? If you got it from a warehouse, you can always ask the manager or owner about the engine's condition. If you got your engine from a "buddy" or "a friend of a friend", you will have to expect a few surprises, especially if they told you it was in "good" condition. Good condition is WAY different from EXCELLENT condition...
Winston Buzon Hey man, thanks for replying. I actually got the motor from HMO last year. Replaced every seal, deleted balance shafts etc. most of the stuff was in the water pump. some came out when I gave the block a bath. There was about id say a 1/4 cooking cups worth. It was loose, like sand. i saved it all in a baggie. Other than that everything looked good inside. The head and bottom of VC looked brand new not even gold stained yet. I figured you have experience cracking them open often and wondered if this was something normal that laypeople just dont see,. thanks
Well, I've seen one instance like that when I got a motor from a "buddy" a mighty long time ago. It was a used B18C1 and it had probably about 30k (not from HMO) and when I separated the head and block, I found small amount of aluminum, just not a 1/4 cup worth. That's normal wear & tear from what it sounds like. When you had the block washed & collected the "material", did you call Steve from HMO about that? In any case, when you inspected the block, were there any significant pieces missing from the block? if it was only from the cooling system, chances are the previous owner used an "additive" for the coolant.
Hey Winston. About to put one of these in my 4th gen Prelude. Did you wire in the OBD2 injectors and delete the resistor box or did you swap OBD1 H22 injectors and keep the resistor box?
Everything is OEM. Just added / modified the wiring harness for the additional sensors & solenoids, and a jumper harness
Hey man really enjoy watching your videos they are very interesting. I have a 92 accord ex all stock and I'm thinking about putting an h22 or h23 in it but Im kind of new at this have a couple questions. Think you can answer some?
You're very welcome. Make sure to subscribe (if you haven't done so yet) for future videos!
Ok thanks for the help
thought it include the install
Does the motor drop direct or did u have to modify the mounts and etc.. I got a 91 as well curious as to how long it took to complete
Hey Winston. I just got a 1993 Honda Accord SE, would a F20B Automatic engine fit for a new engine?
Are you able to keep using the stock transmission??? with this engine swap
Hey Winston I'm a subscriber and I like your videos too. I also have a H23A DOHC VTEC but I am having problems finding maintenance parts for my swap. All I find whenever and wherever I search is H22A parts. For some reason that's what comes out. Where can I find maintenance parts and upgrades for my H23A? Please get back at me as soon as possible. And thanks for sharing.
I have a 1990 Honda Accord ex automatic transmission to do a swap like this with this motor H23A does the car have to be manual transmission or can I do it on a Automatic transmission?
I'm not sure. Never tried. My car came naturally manual...
The motor has nothing to do with the transmission. The wiring and the Computer is what's the difference for the automatic and manual tranny's.
Would you recommend it over a H22a?
Only for slightly higher displacement and the rarity of it, so yes, but that's just me 😁
hey how much is it for everything swap and the h22 cause i got a 91 accord ex ? thought he do tanny swaps like auto to stick
question...my car is a 92 lx with external coil distrubitor was your car internal coil or externl coil and was it just plug and play or did you have to cut wires??
Internal coil and yes, some wire work had to be done
hey Winston I really like your videos man they are very interesting. have a couple questions man please don't laugh at me though because i'm pretty new at this lol just wanted to ask how much would it usually cost to get an engine swap? I have a 92 accord. I love working on it but the engine looks like its about to die soon. im trying to save money for an H22 or H23 just like you. Also, would It have any problems passing smog if I do swap it? do I need to tell dmv or someone its not the original motor?
Depends on who and where you get your swap done by. There's my H engine, and there's the K-series which is VERY extensive & expensive (around $5-6 grand for that). I went this route because it's just plug & play with a few electrical & wiring modifications. Smog will be a problem for some but I have a friend who knows how these things can easily pass just as long as everything is done right. It's all on the Smog Referee...
so you put h23a engine on your 91 honda accord did you have to change the transmission as well or does it fit w/ H23A motor ?
Very compatible
Hey Winston. Is Ricky’s Automotive still in business? Is there a new number to them? I’m interested in the H23A swap. Anything helps, thanks.
I think he moved. I don't know where
Where can I find vtec motor for a 92 Honda accord 5 speed
Hi i just got one for my 92cb can i used the h23 intake manny
Do you or did you have to bar this swap?
If I stay in California, I will have to, but I got a hook up on that. If moving, I could care less, lol!
I need on how can I gat it
Was it a direct swap harness and all
Yes, but it had to be modified to add various sensors & especially the VTEC solenoid
i just got a f20b with PCB ECU. any ideas on how i can get my f22a1 harness to work with this? or what are my options
Stick with the CB7 harness and just add the wiring for the sensors needed.
I found my help locally from www.cb7tuner.com to work on my harness...
im so sorry for asking to much ?'s can you recommend a mechanic for the swap,im only 12. my dad can to do the swap but it a pain with the wiring hardness can u please recommend a mechanic
Hey whats up. I was wondering does the F22a manual trans mount up to the H23a ?
Yes it can
Where are you located? If you're in San Diego, I know a few...
Winston you need to do some homework on that motor if you havent already. The supplier sounds great but don't take his information about what you can use off of that motor. There is no US equivalent ecu for the h23a vtec, an h22 ecu does not run it well and is why many people blow their h23s because of bad tune with much higher rev limiter. Also generally the entire intake is not used because all the sensors are different, it is easier to pull a US h22 intake mani with sensors, or use an aftermarket. I forget exactly what is different but it is not the same as jdm h22 sensor wiring and for that reason people have to find h22 parts. (the head is the same). It's a great motor and I love mine but do it right. I'm on cb7tuner as smokinspeeds. Peace.
And that's why I had my electrical guy re-modify all the wiring harness and used a jumper harness so that the PCB ECU (not any other ECU) would function properly, but that's for the concern though...
US spec P13 runs mine very well. Using a ported stock P13 intake manifold with JDM 345 injectors. I'm sure I'd benefit slightly from a tune but I'd rather wait till I really do more mods. Great engine even in stock form.
Hey man this was four years ago but maybe you're still around. How high can an h23a rev safely if tuned on hondata? I'm deciding on a civic that has this motor and he has it running up to 8,500rpm.
How much you pay for this engine?thanks for all you videos
About 2k
It was worth it? Looking to get the same for 1994 accord wagon
@@juanhernandez5547 most definitely! I 😁👍
Which computer is this of h23a
PCB
Hey how much did you pay for your H23 vtec
thanks man
Did Ricky changed his number? I just try calling him and no amswer i went to his web site and is closed.
I think Ricky retired
I searched for him online and it still says his shop is located in Spring Valley, CA
do you know if the f22 crank pulley would fit the h23a?
having a hard time finding a h23a crank pulley
you can by aftermarket or use H22 that comes with power steering pully as well which is why you have to change out the electronic PS to the H22 PS
Motor ain’t cheap. Just paid 950$ for a mint longblock with a 2mo warranty
what tranny fits 93 accord with h22a swap other then f22a1 an h22a
are you looking for lsd? if so, the t2t4 should be a good alternative
Or even an m2u4
hey I wanna swap my99 accord, did you have any problems with the h23
Just with the harness conversion, but since my H23A came from the same generation as your 99 Accord, you should be just fine. Check with a mechanic just to make sure though...
Winston Buzon I've done the swap into a 99 Accord before. you just have to extend a few wires to reach and rewire the distributor. And I used a p13 prelude ecu since these engines only came in automatic.
bairdandrew77 thanks for the info! doing the swap in the very near future
Where is your shop located? Also do you have a website?
All the info was posted in the description, I believe...
How much did you pay for that
can I get his information
thought*
What year is the H23a Motor?
Mine came from 98-01 Honda Accord Euro R
+Winston Buzon (DubEezy) no offense brother, but euro r's are red tops. The h23a come from the 98-02 accord wagon SiR
You're right. I got my cars mixed up lol
+Winston Buzon (DubEezy) it's a solid engine that I'm gonna get for the old ladys car paired with a t2t4....should wake up the 300000 mile accord a little.
Winston Buzon, I want to buy a 1991 civic with a 92 vtec OBD 2 swap in a non vtec car. Is it possible to smog the car legally? +Winston Buzon
Yes it is, but just as long as you have all of the emissions parts, like stock intake system (unless you have a c.a.r.b. number on it), header, cat converter, etc. Plus, a more recent smog showing acceptable levels of co2 would increase your chances of passing. My biggest advice to you is to ask for a more recent smog test along with the title. If you don't have a recent smog, you'll be in for a headache like no other
So all I really need is recent smog test papers correct. Can I get a list of what I need + Winston Buzon
Yes, most importantly. Most of what my buddy and I down for my swap was listed on the cb7tuner.com forums
What If the person I'm trying to get it from passed the smog crooked
Well, if you can get an honest answer from the person that's selling the car, that's be great. If not, walk away. It'll be your best bet
You forgot to mention that if you do engine swaps on any car in California that is not a stock engine for that car THEY WONT PASS SOMG! So keep that in mind.
Thats why we get it B.A.R so we can drive cars with non oem engines inside.
My 1990 Honda Accord has a H23a3 DOHC non vtec inside and all legal with Bar.
www.bar.ca.gov/Consumer/Engine_Change_Guidelines.html
Swap engine with all qualifying smog parts and make sure the engine was avalible in the USA. Had a nightmare with the F22B DOHC.
i thougth he had place to do it
Sorry, my mech friends don't travel that far...
hard to find??there are only 100 of em on eBay lol
I thought he said the same thing!
When I replayed it back, he actually meant to say not hard to find anymore!
hard to find ??? lol
YEAH THIS FOOL IS FULL OF SHIT.
Haha he probably meant as in like people just coming across them at junkyards or just buying a Honda with already installed jdm h23 in that case they are hard to find ...so in order to get this engine either u have to order it or you know someone saleing one
Wish I could've been more help
La who gives if it far
I'm sure he can swap that engine, but h'es lieng through his teeth, cause not even dealer gives free warranty for that long.Once your car is back in garage after couple of months after the upgrade installation your forced to pay the surprises. All shops are like that.
Also nothing, lol
Sorry also what
Awesome job man please update on the swap. Love the work and well the price is pretty decent since they are doing all the labor and harness plus it's warranted. Just on the manifold how did you manage that did you use another manifold.
