A lot of people think Frank Miller saved Batman from campiness. I couldn't disagree more. Denny O'Neil did. Not all his stories or decisions were great, but I thank him deeply for making Batman the creature of the night again. Without him, Batman would be nothing.
Yeah, Frank Miller doesn't really deserve any credit. He wrote one (or two) alternate reality nonsense stories, that were "dark and gritty". Denny and other writers had already taken Batman back in a more serious direction in the 1970s, and ironically, the 90s Animated Series borrowed HEAVILY from that 70s era.
The brief mention of the Question deserves a bit of expansion. Quite frankly, of all of Denny O'Neil's work as a writer, his work on the Question monthly series is probably the most personal, fearless and captivating run of comics he ever wrote. The twist at the end of #24 alone (which left a chill in the pit of my stomach that refused to go away for two hours) is argument enough of that. The back issues are available for pennies so go see what I'm talking about!
Nobody understands these characters, or how to tell a good story like these titans did. It’s truly sad to see them go, and the new direction of mainstream comic books, and pop culture.
7:53 Denny fired all the main writers and artists of the Batman books up until that point just around Cataclysm, originally they didn't want to fire everyone, but as Chuck Dixon puts it "Denny with his socialist tendencies wanted to share the misery" so all the main Batman writers had to go.

I agree, they did No Man's Land during his time, and it was one of the best events in comics, not just Batman line...
DC Comics in the 90's were awesome...

I'm reading that now. Love it so far. His reincarnation of the character is fascinating. So conflicted, so existential, so human.
I could listen to this man all day
Neal Adams and Denny O'Neil were a great team for the Batman comic books
Thank you for your service.

Very true, true comicbook writers and artists are all old now, the newer writers and artists have no idea what they are doing.

I hate those microphones that catch every breath, click, swallowing louder than speech.
i like em, theres a brutal honesty and intimacy to it
Thank God he accepted, his batman run is the best
Denny O'Neil would have written a great Superman book.
He did write a Superman book I thought
He did write superman. Look up Superman: Kryptonite Nevermore. Not his best by a long shot but its still good.
How is this dude good at writing a story, but boring as hell when telling a story?
Usually that's a sign of shyness/humility.
You’re wrong. He’s just patient.
I disagree. I find him utterly fascinating.
why are dudes like u such assholes towards good people
