I'm happy people enjoyed Cataclysm. I was so hyped for it back in the day (it was the live expansion when I quit wow for good...until classic) but the minute I logged in I knew something wasn't right. It was kind of like leaving on vacation then coming hope to find your house refurnished. Lots of shiny new stuff but you're left wondering...where'd all the old shit that I loved go?
Looking back now, Cata was actually pretty good. We came from the golden age at the time and it was somewhat downhill from that but comparing it now to the shit we got afterwards? Wod, Bfa and Shadowlands for example? Cata is absolutely mid tier in terms of ranking. Not the best, definetely not the worst.
I went super hard on Cata release with PvP and I got burnt out and quit. This video shows me I missed out on a lot. Really like 10 man raids and the guild changes. Great video
Cata was also when tanks topped the damage charts in 5 mans right? I remember I did recruit a friend and we leveled as double prot warrior (really took off around 60 when we got Shockwave) we were doing HUGE monster pulls in ramphearts & blood furnace. Both of us would gather up 2 different mobs and then meet in the middle and chain our Shockwaves on the huge mobs followed by heroic leap claps and they'd basically be dead. Was much fun.
That's so interesting that Cata is coming soon(probably) and almost everyone has started saying how good Cata was. However I really like the idea of Cata after Wotlk, so any popularization of it is welcomed by me
I absolutely want Cata Classic... and Mists, too. I loved Cata. Definitely hope that Blizz doesn’t stop Classic with Wrath. The original Cata heroics WERE hard, but they were fun... and so were the ZA and ZG dungeons... I remember having to explain the Jin’do fight in particular to dungeon groups, but it was always satisfying to clear them in a PuG. Blizz definitely dropped the ball on ZA and ZG by not keeping the original versions in the game and giving the dungeon versions separate instance portals like they did with Kara in Legion, but at least they learned their lesson by Legion and didn’t remove the original Kara when they remade it into a dungeon.
Reforging was the one thing I did not understand the removal of. They removed hit rating at the same time (which I did agree with) For some reason they decided that because you don't have to juggle your secondary stats around to be right at the hit cap anymore that there was no need for reforging. That in my opinion was a mistake. I would love to be able to tailor my gear to my liking.
I wasn't originally a fan of the on-the-rails questing, but the storytelling more than made up for it. Each zone led to the next in a way that we hadn't fully seen before. And, as others have said, it was the most alt-friendly xpac, even compared to LK.
Both of my brothers and my father came back to wow for Cata. I was a freshman at my university and had all the time in the world to play. We had so much fun making new characters and leveling all the way to 85 together, clearing the OG heroic dungeons pre-nerf (DM, and SFK were BRUTAL), and then going hardcore into arenas where we pushed the highest ratings we’ve ever achieved since. Was the expansion that good? No, I just had so much fun due to where I was in life and who I was playing with at the time.
False. Cata and MoP were great expansions for PvP. And I think BoA gear was a great addition. After you level once you should get to do a sooped up version of leveling on your alt.
This is true for me with most games I've played. Now mid 30s with kids and a family sometimes I get hit by the nostalgia stick. A lot of games I played were enjoyable because of the people I played with. Good times.

I would really Love to Play cataclassic. It's my Personal opinion for several reasons. At First I began playing wow at cataclysm and really enjoyed it. There were many Features I apreciated Just Like you mentioned in the Video, but also the Expanded Soundtracks, class builds with many spells, three types of glyphs, hyjal molten Front grinds and Equipment Like relics and Wands as Ranged weapons besides the Main weapons. I Loved the Twilight Design, vashjir, hyjal and all other zones. Don't geht me wrong - I also Loved Pandaria with its class dynamic and the Zone itself. I know many Players hate or at least dislike Cataclysm, but for me it would be Worth to Return to WoW, cause I was Not playing shadowlands at all
First memory I have of WoW is going over to a friends house and the older brother had a WoW account and let me play and I played a Worgen Druid and Warlock. Granted it was the last patch of the expansion, but I will never forget falling in love with the game in that moment.
One of my favorite things about Cataclysm was the conversion of intellect giving spellpower. Also, hybrid casters like balance druids used spirit for spell hit.
I want them to "flex" the raid levels down to WotLK and just give the players the CONTENT. Not the character changes. Not the homogenization of the classes. No more leveling. Just content.
I think the most damaging thing Blizz ever did to WoW was revamped the talent point system. That was single handedly the moment I lost a lot of love for the game.
It was for sure the best time for alts and pvp. But even before then I didn't like wrath towards the end because of the option of 4 different raids (10man-10man H and 25man-25man H). I quit raiding in cata and had a blast just pvping, arena, and even rbgs. Although I have never like rbgs, sometimes you just have a bunch of a-holes running them.
Considering Cata was when my guild fell apart and we all stopped competitive raiding, I still do not like Cata. Plus as nice as the change to the old world was nice for some things, it was a shame to have so many unique things taken away. For years when I'd come back to try WoW again and I would research something that I couldn't find out that was removed in Cata. All that being said, Transmog is the best!! It's the one thing that kept me coming back years after we quit raiding. 👍
While I had a lot of fun with Cata the first time around and played the entire expansion from beginning to end, I don't think I'd want to play it again and I'd be more than happy to stay in Wrath. Biggest thing from a healing perspective is I never really liked the "huge health pools, tiny heals" model they introduced in cataclysm, especially because it persisted in every expansion since. There's something really satisfying about casting a heal on someone and watching their health bar go up a significant amount, it introduces a timing element that just feels far more rewarding to me. I almost forgot how much I missed it, and I'm stoked to have it back in the original trilogy (Vanilla-TBC-WotLK).
Unpopular opinion: Cata had a poor excuse for a BBEG, but the start of Cata was amazing. The majority of other complaints were things that started in WotLK or MoP
Having replayed Classic and TBC now, my favorite form of progression is getting one of the few well itemized items from the mob that drops it. In TBC they took out the bad items, and started smoothing the gear progression path with crafting, rep, and badges. That trend continued and in Cata, gear progression is 90% item level, 5% specific items, and 5% reforging hit. I don't think I'd enjoy it today, but appreciate the nostalgia, early Cata was the most fun I've had in WoW.
I never really played live cata a lot, but I've dabbled on some cata private servers and at least the pvp is very fun. I know how people say that wotlk was the peak of wow and I know I might be a tad biased since the expansion I enjoyed the most and played the most was MoP, so I'd totally play classic cata and classic mop. For me everything after mop has been a huge let down. I played a ton of RBGs in MoP and they were so much fun, BGs have always been my favorite form of pvp in wow, and RBGs added a bit of competetiveness into that, so many different tactics, team comps. Well essentially just premade vs premade in earlier expansions, but grinding honor vs grinding rating & arena poins, the rewards were much better.
Yes. Its essentially the same lockout. If you start in 25 and shit goes bad and have absences on night 2. You can finish your lockout as 10m and get thr same loot. 10 and 25 have the same loot pools and ilvl as well.
When you usually have 5 shamans 2-3 DI and 2 ish druids with CR your just not using your button right if you have to run on wipes. (Except people who die in unressable spots) but those one get summoned when they enter the raid anyway.. I think your focus is on weird stuff when mass res is the pull factor for cata 😊
i love cata but dragon souls is possibly the worst raid ever outside of the last 2 fights just from a quality control perspective. Ultraxion if at all is the only unique boss model outside of Deathwing which the entire budget went towards.
cata pvp was the best pvp hands down. every class countered a different class that countered a different class. Everyone talks about Rshaman/Affliction in twos. In almost a year of high end pvp in a unholy dk/holy pally team i can count the amount of times i lost to Rsham/AFFlock on one hand while that combo was the bane of almost every other comp. RetPally would fuck most other classes untill a mage arrived and then they could basically just afk because they would lose 100%. Hunters were so cocky, being able to kite like nuts and fight most specs without any issues untill a skilled unholy dk arrived and basically murdered them with little to no effort. Blood DK was the ultimate flag carrier in BG's. If you were in melee range that thing wasn't dying. Arms Warriors deleted everything they could get close to. Druids was the ultimate enemy of almost every plate class with their bleeds ignoring armour and dealing a fuckton of damage. Resto druids were a meme for me though. Push them till they pop their tree and then i literally just /sit and wait for it to run out before killing them.
I actually liked Cata, the only thing I think gives it the “bad rep” it gets is the revamp/changing of all the old areas , lfr and the lazy design of the final raid
Early cata pve was fantastic. If you were a good healer, EVERYONE wanted you for 5 man heroic dungeons because they were so rough. Normal Nef was as hard as a heroic boss, and heroic bosses were all extremely rough. Great balance too, because it never felt like one heroic boss was MASSIVELY harder than another, it was just a bunch of fairly balanced fights. Then when they release ZA/ZG for 5 mans, it worked out really well!
I'm kinda indifferent, I'd try it if Classic Cata came out but wouldn't be disappointed if the Classic timeline stops at Wrath, which I don't believe it will. There's too much money to be made just rolling through all the xpacs again while simultaneously keeping the OG xpacs going as well.
now that cata is confirmed i wonder where this "classic" thing will end, i mean now everything is possible, WoD classic, Shadowlands classic...u get the point
WoD had some good content tho. Most of the problems arose with the lack of it. If they handle the phases correctly and have WoD classic last less long as the other ones than I think it will be fun.
If cata does come out I really hope the levelling experience is as fun and has PvP in open world like vanilla does as opposed to everyone just rushing to max level
I rode the Cataclysm hate train vicariously through others because I actually burned out midway through WotLK and didn't come back until Legion. I assumed it was awful, but in truth I never actually played it and now I'm kind of curious to see what it's like as it originaly launched and at the appropriate level.
I also stopped playing back in the day when original Cata was released. But right now, I'm actually looking forward to playing the Classic re-release of it. The main thing I'm looking forward to is only having to do ONE raid per twink per week since 10/25 IDs will be shared and even drop the same loot. Finally I have time to do something else than LFGing every day of the week to get all my twinks through the full content. Plus, I won't have to deal with weird 25 man setups including 2 dics priests or more than 5 healers in general anymore and can just raid everything in 10 man with sane guild members. All in all, looking forward to Cata! The transmog is also cool! Oh yeah, almost forgot: armor specialization! Finally! Finally, no more cloth gear on my holy paladin! One of the biggest insanities finally gone! 😂
The dungeons were amazingly fun and challenging, i loved all the updates to classic dungeons, seeing a continuation of their story. Transmog, world flying, artifact hunting, doing the new quests, the graphical improvements, new races, it was a mind blowing expansion. Blizz always seems to screw up expansions in the middle, and the end is a mixed bag.
I'm pretty sure Cata classic is either going be something I love, or barely play. either one has the chance to completely break me. I miss the early 2010s so much. I used to be completely addicted to wow. I can literally remember playing cata for over 2 days straight. no sleep. no breaks other than grabbing food and other stuff. I'd go until I literally couldnt keep my eyes open. Now theres almost nothing that holds me for more than a couple weeks of playing an hour or 2 a day.
I loved the ramped up difficulty of the heroics. There were too many cut scenes. The questing didn’t make you feel like you were as important to the story like Wrath did. You see big lore characters that have praised you for saving the world in wrath, and they act like they don’t know you. I don’t like portals killing the world play.
That's not just a cata thing, I just played through wrath and so many characters I ran into running vanilla and Tbc completely forgot who I was. It was very rare for an npc to remember you between xpacs
@@JJJBunney001 I guess I felt it was more obvious because of how much we worked with Alexstraza in wrath, calling us heroes and meeting us numerous times, then forgetting we saved the world from Malygos come Cata
The point where cataclysm was really shining is class gameplay It became a lot more dinamic than wotlk and so more funny to play PvP too was better, with longer fights, contrary to wotlk where Hp was too low compared to damage dealt Wotlk was mainly better for the lore and raids
Cata did have its pros tho, ZA and ZG were awesome. Transmogs were cool, loved the new races and honestly it’s the last time wow actually felt like wow for me but it was also the beginning of the end for retail.
I loved cata but I disagree with the transmog part. Personally for me the gear and the way your character looks with it's gear is such a big part of the game. And just being able to artifically always look cool kinda ruins the entire RPG aspect of how your character looks
The first two tiers were fantastic, pretty much on par with ICC imo (although ICC is by far my number 1 favourite raid). Definitely worth raiding in cata, but DS was when I lost interest. Arguably due to lfr, but also the raid itself was just not that fun
Not really about the expansion. It more about the state of the game. Lich was peak refinement and players want blizzard to return the game to this level of care. Think of classic to lich not just something we are playing but ticking time for blizzard to fix retail or a new ip. Almost everyone just wants the game to be good again and replaying all expansion is near pointless.
I like private servers more, ironically they are more Blizzlike than Blizzard nowadays :') I play on Warmane and sometimes Apollo WoW (Cataclysm) but sadly they will both be dead asf when Classic Wrath and Cata come out :'(
@@xinlou6707 Sure they will, look at all the many vanilla servers that since Classic only have about 20 people logged in on a busy day. I just don't see the hype tbh when the private servers are superior, also Blizzard will have about 1000 realms instead of one or two mega realms and it will really give that shitty offline single player MMO vibe that they love so much, plus you gotta pay sub. It's only a tenner a month I know but private servers are free and just a better experience in general. Annnnd, I don't want to support the cunts anymore, shitty company these days.
@@rippenb161 Idk why people think that a scumbag money grabbing company like Acti-blizz will turn down an easy cash cow, they gonna do all of them "Classic" eventually, they make easy money from fools that buy recycled content for the same price as it was 15 years ago :D So sure it will happen buddy. I mean fuck me sideways and call me sailor if it doesn't happen, I hope I am wrong haha
@@ChimpScape Wotlk and Cata servers have much more dedicated players and vanilla realms are just full of classic andys i'm sorry but vanilla is not as good as ppl say it is and i played it both old and new.
Cataclysm was a great expansion, content-wise and design-wise. The problem was company management. Buffs and nerfs were poorly timed. Arena seasons were poorly supervised (especially season 10 when they nerfed MMR mid-season, making it impossible to catch up to the teams sitting on the ladder). Content was slowly rolled out. Server populations were never consolidated. It was like as if Blizzard conspired to ruin their game on purpose. I still enjoyed it though. It's my favorite iteration of the game by far, but I understand why others didn't enjoy it. Hopefully with a polished finished product released the right way, they'll come around.
Really don't think the game got that worse over the years anyway. It simply developed based on how the market shifted from grinding-emphasized MMO to fast-paced casual gaming. The decline of the game is mostly due to the overall decline of the MMO genre. It was no longer enough to get ahead against other MMOs, they needed to catch up with other gaming genres, so it naturally became a bit all over the place since Cata. Could they have done a better job? Possibly, but we cannot ever be sure during a time period where games like LoL, Dota, all the FPS games fitted perfectly with the streaming business. These games occupied all the platforms and resources, which made them grow faster, gaining more exposure, more money in R&D, etc. MMO is simply no longer the hottest genre in the gaming industry anymore. this is probably the best we could ever get.
@@BasedChadman even that is okay if the power level is still visible. The problem is when you have everyone running around in a mog of last expansions top tier and appearance means nothing. I'd be okay if transmog was limited to gear from the current expansion only.
The majority of the people that say no to Cata Classic, do so because they want something else like Classic + (Which won't happen as it would take too many resources, aka dollars, to do). But that doesn't mean they won't play Cata Classic when it inevitably comes out, because most of them will.
I have mixed feelings about cata, mainly because they removed so much content. Even though I liked the new content, the new leveling experience, the raids and all, I didn´t like, that they removed the old zones. I think, that they did a better job with that in the future: Having a member of the bronze dragonflight in the area, that will let you switch between the current timeline and the zone before the big change or when they only added the new Karazhan dungeon and didn´t remove the raid. I wish, they would have done the same for Zul Aman and Zul Gurub. I liked the new dungeon versions, but i also liked the old raids. Imo they should just implement that in a classic cata version and i would feel much better about it and more likely to play that version. They should also do that in retail.. combining that with chromies timeline choice, so you can actually choose the classic leveling experience instead of only cataclysm Azeroth.

Cata was the turning point but was still fun. WOTLK TBC and Cata was my favorite. Panda was not too bad.
Panda was point of no return
What killed wow was the parasitic designs, boosts and catch ups.
Cata was the last good expansion
Cata was amazing but so was mop.
Nah bro not gonna play Classic Cata lol
Dont think i'll play wotlk either tbh
My Classic experience will end with tbc
Does this mean that you can only do one 10 or 25m raid per week, not both?
I heard dragon soul was the worst raid of cata
i love cata but dragon souls is possibly the worst raid ever outside of the last 2 fights just from a quality control perspective. Ultraxion if at all is the only unique boss model outside of Deathwing which the entire budget went towards.
@@Lizard1582 it couldn’t be any worse then SOD and nyalotha tho
cata pvp was the best pvp hands down. every class countered a different class that countered a different class.
Tauren Paladin WTF, it doesn't make any sense...
Had to come here after cata classic was just announced! Hyped!
Cata brought us Goblins and Worgen so i don't hate it since they're my favorite races.
I started in LATE Wrath, so I really grew up in cata.
I really love cata
I actually liked Cata, the only thing I think gives it the “bad rep” it gets is the revamp/changing of all the old areas , lfr and the lazy design of the final raid
I enjoyed Cata. I also loved gear reforging.
challenging 5 man content....stares at +26 dungeons
Early cata pve was fantastic. If you were a good healer, EVERYONE wanted you for 5 man heroic dungeons because they were so rough. Normal Nef was as hard as a heroic boss, and heroic bosses were all extremely rough. Great balance too, because it never felt like one heroic boss was MASSIVELY harder than another, it was just a bunch of fairly balanced fights. Then when they release ZA/ZG for 5 mans, it worked out really well!
Had a blast lvling a fresh toon on a random server and pvping for a few months. But that was about all I liked from cata.
Cata was amazing man. I can't wait to play it again.
now that cata is confirmed i wonder where this "classic" thing will end, i mean now everything is possible, WoD classic, Shadowlands classic...u get the point
WoD had some good content tho. Most of the problems arose with the lack of it. If they handle the phases correctly and have WoD classic last less long as the other ones than I think it will be fun.
I forgot about the guild perks. That was awesome.
hell no
If cata does come out I really hope the levelling experience is as fun and has PvP in open world like vanilla does as opposed to everyone just rushing to max level
That's the players fault not blizzards so there's not much they can do about that
I rode the Cataclysm hate train vicariously through others because I actually burned out midway through WotLK and didn't come back until Legion.
i liked the guild perks personally. i never actually played cata tho. i played legion
I actually liked raiding in cata and then all those guild perks?
Cata Fuckin rocked
you understand that titanforging is gone now in retail right?
Firelands is right up there with Ulduar imo.
Twoull Woawock 7:11
i love your content man, much love
the dungeons were good
I started in the middle of cata I love this expansion to death❤️
I'm pretty sure Cata classic is either going be something I love, or barely play. either one has the chance to completely break me. I miss the early 2010s so much. I used to be completely addicted to wow. I can literally remember playing cata for over 2 days straight. no sleep. no breaks other than grabbing food and other stuff. I'd go until I literally couldnt keep my eyes open.
Now theres almost nothing that holds me for more than a couple weeks of playing an hour or 2 a day.
That's not the game, that's just age. We're getting old man, it happens 😂😂
@@JJJBunney001That hurts man. Im not even 30 😦
I loved the ramped up difficulty of the heroics.
@@JJJBunney001 it would’ve been great if Arthus made reference about us taking out Illidan
The point where cataclysm was really shining is class gameplay
It became a lot more dinamic than wotlk and so more funny to play
PvP too was better, with longer fights, contrary to wotlk where Hp was too low compared to damage dealt
Wotlk was mainly better for the lore and raids
Cata did have its pros tho, ZA and ZG were awesome. Transmogs were cool, loved the new races and honestly it’s the last time wow actually felt like wow for me but it was also the beginning of the end for retail.
I loved cata but I disagree with the transmog part. Personally for me the gear and the way your character looks with it's gear is such a big part of the game. And just being able to artifically always look cool kinda ruins the entire RPG aspect of how your character looks
I honestly liked Cata, but I was no longer raiding by that time. The open world and the dungeon experience was great.
Wasn't armor specification added in wrath of the lich king?
I like private servers more, ironically they are more Blizzlike than Blizzard nowadays :') I play on Warmane and sometimes Apollo WoW (Cataclysm) but sadly they will both be dead asf when Classic Wrath and Cata come out :'(
No they wont
@@xinlou6707 Sure they will, look at all the many vanilla servers that since Classic only have about 20 people logged in on a busy day. I just don't see the hype tbh when the private servers are superior, also Blizzard will have about 1000 realms instead of one or two mega realms and it will really give that shitty offline single player MMO vibe that they love so much, plus you gotta pay sub. It's only a tenner a month I know but private servers are free and just a better experience in general. Annnnd, I don't want to support the cunts anymore, shitty company these days.
Classic cata will not come out. It will be tbc som, vanilla som, wrath som etc after classic wrath.
Just a bit confused, you mention missing hard 5 man content in retail but m+ exists and scales as high as you could ever want.
Aren’t we like a year away from classic wrath? Why are we already talking about cataclysm? While we’re at it let’s talk about classic shadowlands lmao
I had a lot of fun in Cata both in PvE and PvP. I wouldn't mind if they released Cata classic.
Catac was the last expansion i played seriously all i remember is shadowpriest was so strong in this expansion
Going to be playing cats for the moging my Naxx gear mogged 👌🏼 perfection
Never forgot how of a masterpiece this expac was. Can't wait for good wow and end of wotlk
Best thing in cataclysm Is that you can fly on your mount everywhere you want 👍
I loved having the legendary staff on my ele shaman. So I can double cast while I double cast
no .
Unpopular opinion: transmog was one of those small additions that slowly killed WoW.
Players should look their power level.
Players should look different and have customizable options.
@@BasedChadman even that is okay if the power level is still visible. The problem is when you have everyone running around in a mog of last expansions top tier and appearance means nothing.
I'd be okay if transmog was limited to gear from the current expansion only.
@Scott Chenier Eh, I still prefer to not have every single person look exactly the same with the bis tier set, but to each their own
The benefits far outweigh this tiny issue.
Good point, one of the things in Cata that was no bueno for me
Transmog is the one of the most detrimental additions. What you display should represent what you have achieved
The majority of the people that say no to Cata Classic, do so because they want something else like Classic + (Which won't happen as it would take too many resources, aka dollars, to do). But that doesn't mean they won't play Cata Classic when it inevitably comes out, because most of them will.
im personally waiting for Classic Dragonflight
I’m actually so exited for cata now that wotlk is out
I have mixed feelings about cata, mainly because they removed so much content.
Interesting ! Had never thought of it that way
