He's a legend to everyone who knows his story. Most chicanos, outside of the El Paso area, like all other Americans, unfortunately don't even know who he is. Every soldier knows who he is. - Chicano and retired Army
When I was in the US Army stationed in Panama, MSG Benavidez came to speak to us. I'll never forget it. Some of the soldiers that were there that day were making fun of him because he was overweight. I really couldn't believe it! We were just young kids, and those guys had no idea what this man did! It was a great honor for me to see him in person.
The Real-life Rambo, but that was a common trait of the recipients of the Medal of Honor. Had the honor of meeting two of them and they both were the most humble men I have ever met. They wear that medal for those who gave more yet remain unrecognized. Always reminding us that the REAL heroes are those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Roy Benavidez Is a Legend, National Treasure and Hero. Inspirational on how a strong will can overcome all types of adversities. His story still gives me chills down my spine. What one has done for his 🇺🇸 Country and his brothers. Yes war is sad. But sometimes is the only means to FREEDOM and Peace.
MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENTS are all amazing men and their acts of valor and the recounts of their heroism is sometimes beyond what you think one man can do. I saw an interview of another MOH award recipient Sammy Davis, another amazing man. I've read some of the exploits of MOH recipients of WWII , and their actions during combat far exceed what most people would deem any human could accomplish and endure.
Your grandfather was very lucky to meet Mr. Benavidez. I wish I would’ve gotten the opportunity to meet him myself. But sadly, Roy Benavidez passed away before my time. My own great-grandfather, a WW2 veteran also passed away around the same time as Mr. Benavidez. To know Mr. Benavidez personally is what I consider to be a great honor. I give my greatest thanks to Mr. Benavidez and you grandfather for their service.
I understand your sentiment, it is a horrible thing to think about; one human being killing another. But, war IS sometimes a necessary evil. I will agree that some wars have been fought that should never have happened, but some were absolutely, and still are, necessary. I have yet to meet a human being that will disagree, or win a debate about the importance of the 2nd World War. This fell in line with a discussion I was having with a friend of mine as to why we need guns and why we need to be prepared to inflict violence on others. You never go looking for an excuse for violence, ever. But, there always have been, are, and possibly always will be, people who will want to impose their will on others by force. Whether it be by wanting to steal your belongings, take your life, or take over the world, like in WWII. Hitler wanted the dominance of the Aryan race over all others, and he inflicted violence to impose it. We waged war to stop him, because it was the right thing to do, a necessary evil to stop an absolute evil. In the middle east, I've seen the bad guys do things that cry out to heaven for vengeance, some of those guys we fought, and that our boys who still fight today, really are evil. And I get some people choose to ignore the existence of evil, but it is there nonetheless. I think in this case, we should just be grateful to the amazing men and women who serve this country so we don't have to face these evils here in the homeland. And as for war, all we can do is hope to God that, if we do wage war on someone, that it's for the right reason, and for a just cause. Just my opinion.
Amy father died fighting in the Second World War and I served in Vietnam. I am very proud of my country but wish we could us a different ways to settle our troubles.

If there was another way, thats what we'd use, but when two sides want two different things that they hold equally important yet are mutually exclusive and talk has been exhausted, they're not just gonna walk away. Thats a hard truth of living outside a utopia, but we do the best we can.

Irina: First, you are a very lovely lady! I hope that you stay safe, and that you are well. Second: I, personally, do not understand why there are those who are pacifist, or anti-war. The reason I say this is the same thing as what Capt. Jack Sparrow said in Pirates of the Caribbean: "In life, there are only two things: What a man can do to you, and what he can't." It is hard to understand, if you have never served, how most people who enter military service really feel. Most people have the ideal of wanting to do something in service to those they care about, and a country they love. Given this, I am of the opinion that when public opinion turns against a war, it is never the men and women on the ground, or supporting those doing the fighting, that they are at fault -- it is usually the fault of political leadership. And in the case of Vietnam, American leadership did not go in to win, they went in to try and win "hearts and minds" to think like us (I am American). Russia and the United States have tried to do both with Afghanistan, and failed. The US has tried to do that with Iraq and failed. The point is, it is never the fault of the fighting men and women who try and do the right thing (exception: Abu Ghraib Prison in Iraq), it is the fault of leadership who fails to use what they are given properly -- and a leader who hesitates is just as bad as one who never listens. Irina, even though I have served, I am grateful, and continue to be grateful, for the men who volunteer to fight, so I do not have to. That they who sacrifice everything worth anything in this world, do so willingly, and without regret. They fight to make the world a better place, unlike the ones who choose to use religion or politics to impose evil upon the world. They choose to be the one to defeat the boogeyman, to be the knight in shining armor. And men like SSGT. Roy Benavidez are examples to us all, in how they live, and how they serve. As President JFK once said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." RIP to SSGT. Benavidez. Rest easy, soldier. You fought well, and earned your rest. May we all strive to have and use you as an example and role model.
There are people who think taking another life is horrible, and that war is pointless or is just trying to take over another place for greed (like the oil argument for the recent war). ...OK...1st,check out the song "nineteen"...then "hacksaw ridge" the movie...Audie Murphy, Roy Benavides, and Desmond Doss set the standard for American military today...we can only hope to be half of what these men were!!!!
Sometimes there is no right or wrong only who you choose to believe. Other times there is a right, and rough men are required to do violence on our behalf’s, so we can sleep easy at night
Roy is a man that I would describe as beautiful the reason I say that is because I can't ever match that no matter what I do...........and while I do respect your opinion on violence and I am similar and agree with you in that you have to look at it like this...........when it comes to one's self I want to go home and if there is somene who is trying to stop or kill me........when push comes to shove I am going home...... ..but thats me
Depression and dysphoria are common for me, so I just go out for long drives, listening to music and enjoying the scenery. Doing this also helps inspire videos for my channel, Normcore Motors as well. Hope this helps Irina! 😊
As far as wars go, Vietnam was stupid, not because of why we were fighting, but because of how we fought it. Wars are traditionally not about racking up the highest body count, theyre about taking ground from your enemy and denying them access to that ground. You keep gaining ground, cutting off your enemies supply lines and confining your enemy to a smaller and smaller space until they have no choice left but to surrender. That is how wars are won. The Vietnam War however, was just about a body count... our guys would take a hill from the vietcong or the NVA and then two weeks later, they'd be ordered to abandon it, and the enemy would move right back in like nothing happened. Every time our guys would take land from the enemy, they'd be ordered to abandon it shortly after taking it.
You know the Vietcong had extensive tunnel systems with traps and jungle above right? That wasn't "easy" warfare by any means. It was just disclosed in the last ten years that their main forward base was underneath our first base there the entire time. They were actually listening under the floor to commands from our head military personnel so they had a lot of heads up. Don't act like any war is "easy"".
@@rastiga9196 yes, they had tunnels, but those tunnels were extremely narrow and they could not move entire divisions through them in any quick fashion. They could pop up randomly and be a nuisance, but thats about it. Yes their tactics were extremely bad for our troops moral, because they never knew when a few of the little fuckers would pop up and possibly kill them or when they might stumble upon a booby trap, but their tactics wouldn't have been enough for them to win the war had we not fought the way we did... wars are not won by the side with the highest body count... take the winter war for example, look at how many soldiers Russia lost compared to Finland, Russia lost many times more than Finland and still won, why? Because Russia had the manpower and resources to do so. We would have won the Vietnam War had we fought it differently.
@@rastiga9196 true, hindsight is always 20/20, it's always easier to say something should have been done differently after the fact. Vietnam will forever serve as a reminder of how NOT to fight a war.
Simple history is the best when it comes to history stuff from around the world I learned about Rasputin, after what happened to the soviet war or chernobyl
When I am sad I remember I am alive and have my health. At the end of the day if you are young you should ask, "Am I challenging myself or just getting by being lazy?" If you are being lazy find more to things to be productive with.
Vietnam was one of the worst bloodbaths in US history. The US government sent troops in to "liberate" a country that didn't want liberated because Vietnam had valuable resources. As a result, American troops were seen as an invading force by both sides of the conflict. I don't like violence, but have a lot of respect for those who were forced to fight in Vietnam, because they were just trying to survive pure hell and a lot of them survived but mentally never made it out. I like to believe Roy's dedication was actually more about saving lives than taking them, and that's why he pushed so hard to go back - because the government didn't care about the people they were killing.
my grandfather who was a veteran of red army, a partisan in odessa and a holocaust survivor had a saying that: There is no innocents in war but the victims and the dead.
Irina I understd your opinion about war but sometimes the only way to stop evil is for good people to rise up against it. As a Russian I’m sure you have studied what Germany did to Russia during WW2. Germany was a determined foe led by a man who wanted to take over the world. The Russian people fought hard even though they were ill equipped. The lives of millions were lost but their determination cost Hitlers forces so much they had to give up. I feel we must see the big picture of a war.
I believe that you can find elements of his story in Forest Gump and Rambo. There is one thing about this video that the timeline does not make sense. How did he step on a land mine on that mission before he became a Green Baret? Those are the type of missions (infiltration) that they do strictly. Not airborne types of missions. Look up his speech. It is great.
The land mine he stepped on -- or more likely tripped -- was probably a German Bouncing Betty, or a pineapple grenade mine the Vietcong were known for. Fun fact: Later on in the Vietnam War, the Vietcong actually created a mine that used two grenades, so the second one would go off, when an American patrol attempted to remove the first. Say what you want about the Vietcong, I highly respect them because they were very effective guerilla fighters.
@@RussianReactionReviews yeah I’ve seen all the movies except for Last Blood the newest one but I know one thing, when it comes to guerilla tactics he’s no joke

there are some evil people in this world that only speak the language of violence and death. when they will not listen to words of reason and peace, they have to be spoken to in their native language. war is a horrible thing. and i can tell you this from first hand experience. even 50 years later, i have a difficult time sleeping and when i do sleep, i am frequently plagued by nightmares and wake up screaming and swinging my fists. after 11 months and 1 week, i was sent home by a man that left a scar across my face from my nose, across my left eye (½mm deeper and i would have lost my eye), to the side of my head. he did not survive the encounter. i know you might not believe me when i say this, but war is something that every reasonable person hates and fears, but any righteous person is willing to do if the cause is good and just.
I have to agree about the wars the US has been into since the fifties. They were wars started by crooked politicians on both sides. WWII was different and a better example of a just war. The only good reasons to go to war is to protect your country,or to save lives. The west was in that situation since hitler declared war on most of Europe and the US. When the US entered the war there had already been 20 to 30 million people dead due to subjugation and forced starvation. So there are good reasons to fight a war but no good wars. In the end it was the Soviet Union that saved the day. If hitler had been able to get past the Russian armies, he would gotten more oil and probably would have won the war. I’m Irish and German, I would say my family would have been casualties if we had lost. There’s no way the nazis would have approved of Germans mixing with the Irish. The allied forces sandwiched the nazis between themselves and Russia and we destroyed their armies and we won the war. If we hadn’t, there would have easily been four to eight times more people killed since, than the total global amount of deaths in the war. It’s estimated that Russia lost between 8 to 12 million people alone in the war.
@RussianReaction&Reviews, So let's starting honoring this man by spelling his name correctly Roy 'Benavidez'. It's bad enough that all governments use soldiers for their wars but then to have a RUclipsr who makes more money than those soldiers ever had misspell their name while making money off of views on a video based on their lives is horrible.
Killing is unfortunate, but in some defensive situations it's a necessity if you want to live. Even for good people. I suppose good people could just choose to let themselves die, instead of killing the one who are trying to kill them. If you're a Christian, that would be an ultimate test of faith. Because as a believer, you know you'll be going to heaven if you choose to lay down your life instead, while giving your potential killer more time in their earthly life to find and accept Christ as their savior. Rather than ending their life to save your own, thus ending their chance to find salvation, in which they'll then spend eternity separated from God in the afterlife.

Watch Desmond T Doss documentary called the Conscientious Objector. They made a movie about him called hacksaw ridge but the actual documentary is better. He was a medal of honor winner that refused to carry a gun.
You should react to Audie Murphy. Another US soldier who went on a one man rampage.
I think she should look up "War is a Racket", a book by Major General Smedley D. Butler. Legendary.

Soldiers don't like to kill. They simply care so much for their comrades their willing to do anything to protect them.
We all need to stop dwelling and thinking of our differences and focus on what makes us similar and family.
I love it! You are absolutely right
When I'm tired or sad I either work out go for a run or write poems

...OK...1st,check out the song "nineteen"...then "hacksaw ridge" the movie...Audie Murphy, Roy Benavides, and Desmond Doss set the standard for American military today...we can only hope to be half of what these men were!!!!
Sometimes there is no right or wrong only who you choose to believe. Other times there is a right, and rough men are required to do violence on our behalf’s, so we can sleep easy at night
Saving Private Ryan
beautiful.. i cannot believe ur doing this vid as anti-war as u r... just suprises me is all... stay safe Irina, please.. talk later
He is an hero because he didn’t care about his life he just wanted to Safe his friends
Roy is a man that I would describe as beautiful the reason I say that is because I can't ever match that no matter what I do...........and while I do respect your opinion on violence and I am similar and agree with you in that you have to look at it like this...........when it comes to one's self I want to go home and if there is somene who is trying to stop or kill me........when push comes to shove I am going home......
..but thats me
Nice video your learning about more american history

War makes men mad its awful but sometimes its necessary
@@JonathanH1253 Perfect 20/20 hindsight whataboutism.
@@rastiga9196 true, hindsight is always 20/20, it's always easier to say something should have been done differently after the fact. Vietnam will forever serve as a reminder of how NOT to fight a war.
@@rastiga9196 also, let's not forget the disgusting way our troops were treated when they came home from the war and never let it happen again.

9:05 survival instinct. As with every human. You just want to survive. It's not good or bad. Righteous or Evil. It just is.

there is a pic at the El Paso VA - but i don't think youtube allows me to post any kind of picture
12:39 You know sometimes, there's not a choice. So you either fight or die.
I like to believe Roy's dedication was actually more about saving lives than taking them, and that's why he pushed so hard to go back - because the government didn't care about the people they were killing.
my grandfather who was a veteran of red army, a partisan in odessa and a holocaust survivor had a saying that: There is no innocents in war but the victims and the dead.
remember... you know who... :-)
The helicopter that rescued them almost crashed from the weight of Roy's balls.....no quarter
Why haven’t they made this a movie yet? It’s crazy
I like your videos keep up the good work. Much love from America 🇺🇸
Benavides is a true hero 🫡
Irina I understd your opinion about war but sometimes the only way to stop evil is for good people to rise up against it. As a Russian I’m sure you have studied what Germany did to Russia during WW2. Germany was a determined foe led by a man who wanted to take over the world. The Russian people fought hard even though they were ill equipped. The lives of millions were lost but their determination cost Hitlers forces so much they had to give up. I feel we must see the big picture of a war.
you make some valid points
Benavidez was Mexican American Indian Yaqui warrior
And O'Connor discovered the warm embrace of morphine that day, but thats a love story, for another time.
This guy’s the real life Rambo

there are some evil people in this world that only speak the language of violence and death. when they will not listen to words of reason and peace, they have to be spoken to in their native language. war is a horrible thing. and i can tell you this from first hand experience. even 50 years later, i have a difficult time sleeping and when i do sleep, i am frequently plagued by nightmares and wake up screaming and swinging my fists. after 11 months and 1 week, i was sent home by a man that left a scar across my face from my nose, across my left eye (½mm deeper and i would have lost my eye), to the side of my head. he did not survive the encounter. i know you might not believe me when i say this, but war is something that every reasonable person hates and fears, but any righteous person is willing to do if the cause is good and just.

Can you react to a music video "kostromin - Моя голова винтом"
The title is misleading IMO. I thought I was about to hear about a disillusioned veteran who went off the rails.
she is so freaking hot. she also doesnt understand good vs evil .lol
How do you like your country right now?
i love my country, I missed my family. its not people, its governments games.. we are not choosing, you are not choosing either
