Trains are great providing you have the fueling and decent track design and signal usage, anthill like bases are great if you want to just see 100s of trains going from place to place.

Hear me out… put ware houses on both sides of a single lane like this: “I” is equal to train track, “:” is equal to warehouses. :I: and then just use only those mini loaders and make them have the same blacklist one item thing by using underground’s on the 1st top row and 29th row bottom. If it’s in a loop it would be so much simpler. Like you said. To address the fact miniloaders won’t fit in between each storage, just use inserters it still works
As a 25 yr old male who likes trains 🗿 There's almost something primal about the satisfaction trains give us. It's in our DNA but I don't know why Edit: after watching 3-12 trains+ could be spicy if you put the locos in the middle. I'm imagining a production Bay where unloading and loading the locos wait in the turn and get refuled in stackers. Could be viable for copper cables mass production
wow that was alot of work for what ended up with a belt loop with filter inserters. only issue with that would be a overload of 1 resource blocking the others, but that is fixable
One day... one day I'll try playing a ribbonworld challenge with a Man Engine like double sawtooth train design. But probably with a bunch of QoL mods, because I don't want to flay myself _that_ hard by going pure vanilla game.

At 2:30 can't you solve the swapping problem by making all the inserters go the same way? I.e. connect the warehouses in a unidirectional loop.

a long time ago Xterm showcased a base with trains over 100 wagons long.
Some of them took literal days (at 60 frames) to load.
You can always make a slower sorting algorithm. That's my specialty
