    Did I miss it? when did he talk about how to survive a lightning strike?

      When he concluded by saying don't go near storms. Pretty smart eh?

      Nope he did not say how. I do not want to believe BBC is lowering itself to clickbait, but . . . .

    I thought i might give a brief story about CPR for those who are new or inexperienced with it just to sort of elaborate the importance of it.
    In January 2011 twenty five people lined up after a man collapsed from a heart attack.
    They performed CPR for over 1,5 Hours while they waited for the EMS to arrive.
    The man who suffered the heart attack, recovered shortly after arriving to the hospital.

    I was struck by lightning in Florida 15 years ago, I credit the stranger who witnessed it with saving my life and calling EMT's.

    I once felt very light headed durihg a storm, and then a strike hit the corner of the house about 50cm above my head. Everything went pink, and for about 5 seconds I couldn't have told you a single thing about myself. The first thing I remember afterwards was the strong smell of ozone and the faint taste of blood at the back of my throat

    There were stories in my family of the kitchen being hit by ball lighning and the floors just vobrating like pondwater ripples during the strike. The house has since been sold, but the story would be an interesting one to tell for why the outlet had to be replaced. It's not often you get to boast as a real-estate agent that the house was a surivor of a ball-lightning strike.

    I had a lightning bolt come crashing down in my yard only a few meters off. It was near blinding, the thunder was so loud it nearly shattered the windows and even though it did not hit me I felt a jolt run through me.

      A similar thing happened to me recently. Lightning must have struck the backyard because the thunder was so instant, it was literally an explosion.

      lockhrt999 not these ones no. Some other clips go the other direction: start on TV and then become highlight clips here on Earth Lab. Eg chunks from my Secrets Of Everything series. Go to the Earth Lab homepage and you’ll see a playlist of those 👍

    I used to live in Florida...now I'm in the UK. I don't think I've ever even seen lightning here before. Back in FL, there would be horrendous lightning storms every time it rained. Here thouogh? I've literally not seen one lightning bolt. Sorta miss them. And the heat.

    Does lightning travel up not from the sky? so wouldn't hit head first?

    • @Fizz-Pop
      @Fizz-Pop 6 лет назад

      My understanding is that yes, lightning actually travels up from the ground a small amount and the strike comes down to meet it. So it would still hit your head first. Before anyone takes the piss, go look it up.

    Greg is greatly misinformed about Venezuela's Catatumbo lightning, it's ocurr among the cloud itself and hardly lands into the ground, landing in Caracas is a million times more dangerous than standing into a electric storm to watch the lightning, because of the rampant criminality and violence involved.
