Those would be a nightmare in the er if the bad guy made it that far. Great test as normal, you should be rated the #1 testing channel on YT.
Yeah they would. Thank you sir.😎👊
If a bad guy makes it to the ER then your ammo failed.
@@ToolsandTargets, I haven’t seen you test any Steinel Ammo yet. Their ammo is great. I like their 10mm ammo. Even their 10mm range ammo is hot. Give them a try. If you have a P.O. Box I’ll send you a box of both to test on air. Thanks for what you’re doing. We appreciate it.
👍
He really should. Can almost find a through well done test for almost any load you can think of. I’m almost certain he will eventually get to that point literally.
Props to this company for actually having their product do exactly what the marketing claims it to do.
The fragmentation from the 9mm was way BGGER than the .380 testing. Not a fan of fragmenting rounds with a disk, but this stuff performed very good. Glad you're feeling better and have been missing these tests. No other channels is as comprehensive and real world testing than this channel!
Appreciate that, brother.😎👊
Glad you’re feeling better! Those are mean. For those who like fragmenting bullets. Another great test!
I’d love to see tests on a car door, glass window, and wood board, all with a gel block behind. Because the overwatch is supposed to have more penetrating ability than the civil defense. Also, if possible, I’d like to see testing on the gel block dummy that has bone structure. I know they’re extremely expensive, maybe someone would sponsor the test.
Great videos. Thank you. 🙏
There's other yt videos on the 40 cal version did great thru a car and window😊
I love when this ammo gets reviewed! This is my EDC.
Most energetic ammo for sale is LCD. (At least in civilian 9mm). It actually was originally sold as a patten the government bought up but when it expired the guy (or someone) took the design and made them and sold them. The Overwatch rounds were made for a special interest group in national security if im not mistaken.
You are by far the #1 testing channel out there in my view, that's why I joined your range gang! I really do appreciate all of this you do for us. As far as this test, impressive ammo for what it is and the muzzle energy is just nuts, I personally don't care for light fragmenting ammo. I will stick with the 124-147 grain stuff. Thanks again!
Really do appreciate that, brother. It definitely helps!😎👊
You are correct, I'm also curious about barrier tests. I have to be honest though, the consistency and terminal ballistics on soft targets is certainly intriguing. Thanks again for the awesome content. 👌
Thank you sir. They're definitely impressive looking.
So what are you thinking on barriers? My thoughts, for what it's worth is overpenetration in drywall and terminal ballistics beyond auto glass and car doors. Looking forward to your follow up Sir. Thanks again 👍
I will definitely get some of these thanks for the video
If you’re shooting through barriers it’s no longer self defense. You’ll more than likely eat that in court. As a civilian the courts expect you to retreat when the threat is not immediate
Considering the liberty defense 9mm has been proven to reliably penetrate IIIa body armor, I'd say it defeats barriers fine
These and the SinterFire Special Duty rounds remind me of the old Glaser Safety Slugs. At the time (30+ years ago), Massad Ayoob stated that '...if one were shot with a Safety Slug IN the ER, they still wouldn't survive'.
😆
Have to say, Liberty is consistent for what it is designed to do. Would like some real world data on the effectiveness of that type of round. I doubt something like that is readily available. No doubt how effective a bonded hollow point is so I'll stick with that. Thanks for all you do. Stay frosty, stay safe and have a great week.
I definitely wouldn't want to be hit by one of them. #1 testing channel on RUclips and I really appreciate the work you put into making these great videos brother tools.
Thank you as always, brother!😎👊
I use the civil defense in 40 cal for my home defense pistol and now i gotta get me some of these for sure
They definitely leave a mark.
I packed Civil Defense in my trade in Glock 21 gen 4, .45acp 2010s era. The KE level is high ⬆️. I lived in a apt complex, 2nd floor. 🏘
I personally have been using Liberty Civil Defense in 9mm and 45acp,. I have found from personal testing (and wasting goodwill heavy coats of various weight that the Liberty Civil Defense does the exact job it is made to do! The main reason I chose Liberty Civil Defense is because they are extremely similar to the old Glaser rounds from back in the 80's and 90's. As a former LEO and veteran, I know the importance of having to discharge my weapon in either in the service of my country and unfortunately I have had to also discharge my weapon as a LEO as well. And I can tell you one thing for certain and that is if you ever have to discharge your weapon in defense of yourself or another person, you definitely want a round which WILL stop a person with one round and not worry about the round over penetrating to the next block or next county!! From all that I have been to tell (though I have not had the luxury of using ballistic gel) along with various thicknesses of heavy coats along with jeans and a shirt along with ballistic gel. Which would of course provide definitive proof of my hypothesis of the performance of this particular ammunition. I would very much like to see if Tools & Targets does finally perform such a test with both liberty Civil Defense and Liberty Civil Penetrator ammunition as I believe that any such test in any other the various calibers would settle once and for all that Liberty Civil Defense and Penetrator does exactly what the Liberty Ammunition Company says it does!
Challenge: prove me wrong!
What liberty penetrator are you talking about? I just see civil defense and overwatch?
This wound be the best ammo for micro compacts… Its lighter with less recoil, an delivers a consistent result round after round… I would pair these with NovX round… Alternating the Load of my Mags.. First NovX then Liberty… NovX to break the initial barrier, then Liberty to tear up the inside of the wound cavity… Great for the MC9 Mete, 365 Sig, Glock 26, Hellcat Etc….
I've tested these extensively. They are the most accurate 9mm round on the market. Easily 2 MOA out of an 8.5" AR-9 at 100 yards. Most comparable defensive ammunition run 4 MOA at best and many are worse. Also very low recoil and easily cuts through 3A and military flack jackets. Also great for hunting in California.
Do you get any jammed/FTF issues during your testing?
No. I haven't had any issues in with CMMG Banshee, G26, G19, G34, and M9. What are you running?@@wayne6386
I'm warming up to these for my nine. First off - 400+ foot pounds from a shorty? That means something. Second - I like that it goes in 3 inches then frags. Now here's my thinking - some 400 foot pounds at impact, those pedals or chunks weigh together 45% of the total, so they also have 45% of the kinetic energy. Whatever energy is left after three inches (most of it), 45% of it gets deposited 3 inches in. What's three inches inside a torso? Organs. The damage zone from the petals is a five inch diameter cylinder two inches thick. That HAS to increase your probability of hitting something vital. Then 55% goes on for that good and reliable penetration. If it's barrier-cool it may be a winner.
😎👊
Your enthusiasm is your calling card! Keep doing what you're doing, your gel tests are a must watch when choosing ammo!
Thank you sir!😎👊
Great test with results as expected. They went in and did tons of damage, without any over penetration. I don't think, although I could be wrong, but I don't believe these are meant for hard barrier penetration. If that's the game we're after for self defense, we are likely better off looking elsewhere.
Thank you sir.😎👊
Ordered a box last night. I live in an apartment, I use this or sinterfire for my nightstand set up
I appreciate all the content you pump out. I think about all of the behind-the-scenes work you do. These short 10-15 minute videos take several hours between prepping and post editing. Don't think it goes unnoticed. Thank you.
Based on your review I got, like & now have loaded up in my XD-mElite 3.8,10mm, is the Civil Defense Overwatch. I really like the velocity, energy dump creating a massive wound and not likely to over penetrate. I feel real good about this as home defense rounds.
Once again the performance is as advertised. Great content and informative video. That would be huge cavity after about 3 to 5”s of impact. Messy-Messy. The MC-9 has made another good performance. Barrier testing would be very interesting. The test coverage has been great and complete. Barriers maybe next. I have not used any type of lightweights. But still like to see the testing. Thanks for sharing and be safe! 👊👊🇺🇸👊👊🇺🇸
I'm not sure which I enjoy the most, your content, your hat's, or your accent??? 👍👍👍
ALL!
😂
I agree with you on that @Tools&Targets . I'm thinking that testing this round against the 4 most common types of jacket/overcoat type of material would be a great way to test real world. That firehose type material like you can find with Carhart , and heavy leather like a motorcycle jacket, a heavy wool overcoat usually worn in that office work type environment, and maybe a popular outdoor type jacket ? Love the content and keep doing what you do !
My favourite ballistics channel on RUclips. Keep up the great work!
Would you consider testing 3" mag. 12 gauge in large birdshot like #1, BB?
Im from the uk where buck is hard to find. It would be nice to see how effective these loads i can get are !
Should be able to come up with something. Any particular barrel length?
I second that. Then drift into some more obscure buckshots that dandylion definitely can't find 😂
@@ToolsandTargets well you're probably not gonna have a 32" 🤣
But a modified choke would be ideal
Lead #BB or #T shot would be a monster of a shot shell for self defense. Likely that’s the smallest shot size that will have enough mass to push the majority of the pellets to the minimum of 12”
yeah, I think 28 is the longest I have.😎👍@@dandylion1987
I trust hornady federal and speer for my daily driver its spendy but my family and my life on the line
😎👊
Me too AAC actually loads some 115 grain XTP's that are a really good budget alternative for like 50 cents per round but I prefer the 124 grain +P gold dots & HST's.. I actually prefer the 115 grain XTP's over the critical defense because they get deeper penetration without going over 18-19" in gel.. I hear the Remington 115 grain UMC is a good budget hollow point but I haven't actually tested it myself yet
Great test- like always ! Ill agree with you Tools, im not a fan of super light for caliber ammo. I dont like the shallow penetration and ive seen rounds in this catagory cause malfunctions in normally reliable handguns. I would only recommend and use fragmenting ammo in very special situations where over penetration is a major concern.
I do have a test id enjoy seeing. I have always liked the 38 Special and usually keep a few around for defense work. I know its not popular, but i regularly load them up with the ole standby from the 70's- the 158gr LRN. I currently have this load in all 3 of my 38 revolvers. One, a 4" inch Armscor (RIA) and 2 snubbies- my S&W 642 and an older Rossi 2 inch barrel. Thanks Brother for all the time and hard work you put into this channel. I never miss one !
Good point about the cycling.😎👊
For a .38spl snubby,I like swchp 158 gr +p as they are shoulder stabilized so they get penetration to vitals and some expansion.
As with you and Tools 🔧, I'm doubtful that a core with only a mass of a .22lr is going to administer enough damage to vital organs for rapid incapacitating. As far as shallow penetration frag is concerned,it's not anymore effective than snake shot.
@@terrywadsworth5645 The ole 158gr plus P lead hollow point is a great 38 round without a doubt. But I haven't seen any of those for sale around these parts for a long time. I do have a partial box of Aguilla 38 semi- jacketed hollow points, standard velocity. They claim 900fps, but are standard velocity. Im not sure if that is accurate or not. I don't see how a 158gr 38 going 900 fps is rated a standard velocity round. I've seen mixed reviews on them. They do fire just great in my older , non plus P Rossi 88 snubby. To be honest, I change my 38 carry ammo like most people change underwear, LOL. I do stay away from very light for caliber rounds. Just don't trust them to be reliable or to have enough penetration. I have some of the Federal Blue coated Nyclad standard velocity 125gr hollow points. They were highly recommend back in the ole days. Especially for Snubbies. I do carry those from time to time. But I'll have to say, in my limited testing, they seem to have shallow penetration. They are a low recoiling 38 round and my wife likes them. I did get a box of the Hornady pink tip, 90gr 38 lite rounds with my Rossi 88 when I bought it. The girl I bought it from had them loaded up in the revolver. I did carry them in my S&W 642 Ladysmith for awhile, just to do it. My wife said she can handle me carrying the Ladysmith, but not with pink tipped bullets. Now truthfully, I didn't realize the 642 was a Ladysmith until I'd done did the paperwork. She has become one of my favorites to carry.
For that type of 9mm ammunition I think I would use the Federal Syntech self defense, which seemed to have better penetration on both the base and the petals. This was another interesting test.
Agreed. Those Syntech looked like the best frag round so far to me.
I could see it being a decent round if you’re really concerned about over penetration and that explosiveness a few inches in does seem pretty devastating
@@ToolsandTargetsGlad I snagged a 50 round box of those tucked back into my safe! I'll still carry traditional bonded ammo like 124gr +P Gold Dot
@@JJ_SDWR I like police 🚔 grade Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot or bonded GS loads. I used to carry Critical Duty; 2010s. I moved away from Hornady but it's decent for carry, duty in my view. I'm not fond of Winchester's First Defense series.
@@DavidLLambertmobileWhat prompted you to abandon Critical Duty? I've got a boatload in .45acp and 9mm 135gr +p and still carry it to this day. Great for defeating auto glass.
I personally don't like this ammo. I prefer a full solid mushroom and good penetration Thanks Tools Stay Safe 🙏🙏
Appreciate ya, brother.😎👊
I understand your hangup or concern on the light disk and barriers... So Id love to see these tested through a Gel block in front of a car door or windshield.
I have a feeling they may perform just as good.
Yeah, I'm with you T. I'm not sure about these types of rounds interesting though . Anyway, if I did ever have to use these in self defense, with the courts here in Detroit, and with the way these rounds work and look with that black case, They'd probably call them "Exploding murder rounds" and convict me of murder. Just to different for me.
Love your channel.....any chance....maybe at the end of one of your videos you could do a velocity check on that 45/70 derringer? Thanks!
Appreciate that. I need to do a full blown gel test with it.
Thanks for the test. I'd carry it in a bind if I had some, but the more conventional JHPs seem to be less likely to be deflected by bones or heavy clothing.
I can see its use in a home situation. No worries about penetrating walls or windows.
I'll have to re-watch the 10mm Civil Defense round. I can se
😎👊
Nice test Tools! Put them doubts to rest…..Please add some barriers and test the Liberty against the other top shelf defensive ammo!
This is the best frag round I’ve seen, performance was pretty decent. Haven’t tried any but wouldn’t mind picking some up. Won’t replace my HST but in certain applications would work well. Thanks for the test Tools!
If I send you a box or two of this will you do a more in depth review of it? Maybe some barrier testing etc.
Maybe some fluffy jackets and glass or drywall or sheet metal etc.
Very interesting to see a round that does exactly what they're intended to do. Yet l'm not convinced that l like the intended application. Good penetration on the disk but such a small piece of lead in the end. Your testing is very consistent in the way you do it. Really allows shooter's to make up their mind what they feel would work with their personal firearm.
Picture perfect. Don't see how anyone can have any problems with this. I'm a fan of Liberty. I carry the Civil Defense in my G29.
Wow! Those things are trucking with good performance to boot. I wouldn't mind having a box or two of these for my compacts. Cool test Tools! Thanks for all the effort again!
Judging from how the Ballistic Gel reacts and the fragmentation at penetration of the round, Liberties ammo is extremely frightening! I'm sold!
As you said...very consistent...very impressive. Unless it's a solid bullet like the Extreme Defender, I want a heavy for caliber bonded bullet like a Critical Duty.
Same 😎👍
500 ft lb 9mm isn't messin' around. That's a pretty sweet round. Thanks for the vid!
It's definitely got the numbers.😎👊
Those wound channels look almost identical. Very consistent, that’s impressive.
Would love to see them make some fluted ammo in this weight and speed see what the extream defender projectiles would do at theae speeds
Could you please do ballistic gel testing, through cloth with 2 different barrel length hand guns, with the Syntech training match 9mm luger 147 grain ammo. It's the cheapest flat nose sub sonic ammo for 9mm. And i plan on using it for self defense and training do to flat noses able to make better permanent wound cavities compared to round nose. It's only $30 for a box of 50.
That looks like fireworks in the gel. Let freedom ring! 😂🇺🇸🇺🇸
Out of the MC9, the V50 averaged 1286 FPS which gives us an average Ke50 of 264. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to sneeze at, either.
Out of the G17, we only got two 50-yard velocities. One of them was very high at 1645 fps, whereas the other one was much lower (and more what I would expect based on the MC9 numbers) at 1368 feet per second. Those shots made Ke50 numbers of 432 and 299 energy foot pounds respectively for a 2-shot average of 362 energy foot pounds.
🇦🇺😎👍Hey brother, good to see you’re better….you’ll be cooling down up there and we’re preparing for a sweaty Christmas 🎄. I hate Christmas down here , it’s shit ….wow doesn’t it crack…. Wow don’t they frag…looks like a lot of internal bleeding…another great test mate🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸🏁
I don't see how people call Liberty a gimmick. That's total devastation. Great ammo
Cool video and I've shot those from my 16in carbine and they are smoking out at over 2600fps at the muzzle
Thank you sir.😎👊
For the 72grain or 50grain?
I like ‘em especially as alternate rounds in a magazine.
Saves a lot of weight.
These type of rounds just are not my cup of tea, give me a good bonded hollow point in at least 124 grain. Whether it's for me or not I always watch like & leave a comment to support the channel, I love what you put out and appreciate you my friend. Have a good one brother see you on the next one.
I like 124gr +P bonded too. ✔️ Gun companies often R&D 9mm models with 124gr FMJ or NATO type 9mm. I used .45acp & 10mm Liberty Civil Defense, 2010s.
I carry federal HST 124 Grain (currently standard pressure but have also carried plus P)
I've only ever carried Federal HST, or Speer Golddot.
Both are proven, reliable Effective.
Outstanding review I need to get a few boxes of this for my 9mm PSA Dagger Full Size Pistol I can load every other round in the magazine .
I am still not sure about these ! Looking forward to testing Lehigh in my pew-pews.
I think I like fraging, I most likely would use it
Got to do barrier test Liberty stated at shot show they will penetrate level 3 plates/vests , also seen a RUclips video of someone using the civil defense against car door passed right through. Allegedly they will not break apart until the hollows cavity is filled with liquid/tissue is when the will fragmentation start so its supposed to be able to go through barriers and only expand once its hits its target . Thats what liberty states
Very fascinated by these rounds would love to see you do something with some kind of barriers to truly test it have been following up on all the videos of the liberty tests you have done very educational
Perfect for home defense!
Now for the 45 acp version. This ammo needs more testing but it is performing, just no real life reports of usage like the HST or Gold dot making it hard to trust it. Maybe its meant as sky marshal ammo.
If the round misses the chest and rib bones. And comes after then the heart and lungs will deflate.. Thanks for the video. 👍
Thanks for another great round of Jelly Time testing.
Hope you’re feeling better.
"Can this liberty bring justice for all jelly time" -Tools.
Lol I love it
In certain restricted areas like schools or churches "if allowed" this would be good but Im not sure how it would do hitting ribs or pelvic/hip region. I agree if the base kept more weight I might carry it. Muzzleblast is an issue. Dont think Boogieman will wait til you put earplugs in. 🙉💥
I’m not concerned about barrier penetration with this specific ammunition. I use it strictly for in home defense because it doesn’t go vey far through drywall;losing most of its destructive energy in the first wall. This means my family and neighbors will be less likely to be harmed by missed shots. An additional benefit is the low recoil. My wife loves this in 9mm because it’s so much easier to control and recover from multiple shots fired in rapid succession.
I’d really like to see more testing on this. The more I research the more this looks like it will be a one shot stopper of a round.
500 ft lbs from a 9mm is wild. Still holding onto a box of Civil Defense. Thanks for another great video!
I LIKE IT! However do I think these are the best? No. But I wouldn't be afraid to carry it in a high capacity Glock 9mm though!!!
Glad I saw this. Was about to order some “more” civil defense. Didn’t know about the overwatch loading.
Paul Harrell does a video on this stuff and I believe he shoots it through his meat target, and like yourself, he's not completely sold on it........then again he's not really sold on "Hyper ammo" in general.
I shot some of the 9mm and .40 S&W Civil Defense at my local range, and the range officer came over to check and see if I was shooting a rifle caliber on the pistol range. It's loud.
😆😆😆
I’d rather have critical defense or an xtp’s and I usually run barns x tack vore Tex in my G2C. You did a great job testing this. Thank you for your hard work.
No 223 ammo at 2 Academy Sports, very little in the Outdoor Limited showroom, only 223 hunting rounds at Sportsmans
😆
They definitely consistent but im not a fan either, prefer heavier weight. Lightest i have are barnes 140gr copper.
😎👊
Liking the velocity. Will definitely cause a lot of damage. Looks like a pesky little round. Feel better sir. 🤧👊🇺🇸👍
Appreciate that, brother.😎👊
I’d love to see the seismic 9mm 185gr hollow point
45 kimber 3in cdp ll custom shop. Liberty defence. Reason for switching to church sec.
I think bone would affect those. Not heavy enough to punch through.
thank you. been carrying civil for a long time now
Do you every have any jammed/ FTF issues?
Some nasty fragmentation that’ll do a job on the innards holy cow
My son gave me some Sim-X DEFENSECORE 58gr in 40S&W. It states 2050+ fps. I had no idea this stuff even existed. I can't wait to give it a melon test.
💥🍉💥
I might try these out. The civil defense are my favorite rounds, but they always jam in my AR9 and I’ve had jams in my carry gun too, but to a lesser level.
They definitely would do the job
Nasty stuff.
Actually, you want the fragmentation to go "crazy" like you say: that's how you eliminate a target/aggressor/attacker, or whatever you what to call a bad guy.
These will work great on a low-fat person, but a high fat person may survive. I've heard others say it goes through type 3 body armor and windshields.
Noooo, thanks! I'll stick with my HST.
Fragpansion looks great but c'mon, 3"~5" in gel is only about 1"~2" in flesh, nevermind going thru something tougher like bone. Very nasty flesh wounds for sure, but those 42gr cores are about what a 22LR does and can't be relied on to stop an attacker.
Yeah, I'm just not sold on em.🤷♂️
I agree with you Tools 👍, I would have to see how well they perform against other types of barriers.. another awesome video Tools 👊🇺🇸 God bless.
I have 380 and 357... But every other round is solid lead just in case.
Thank you for your time & effort producing these video, I enjoy them all, I'm not impressed with this ammo, I'm going the keep my nightstand nine stuffed with the 124gr-+P HSTs, hope you had a great weekend! 👊🇺🇸
I'm sold, what a mess..like to see this 9m ammo compared to .22LR in the segmenting Winchester HE and Silvertip maybe even a Punch..I believe from watching your work side by side the result will surprise .22 sceptics.
So many rounds remind me of the R.I.P round
I think the 42 grains of the piece that keeps penetrating is heavy enough to make the bad guys drop when combined with the energy of the round dumping everything into the target at first contact. But I could be wrong lol. Don’t attack me.
I’m still not sold on this round either. I’ve seen some tests where the cavity got clogged with heavy clothing and performed like a fmj.
On another note, I’d love to see a test on the G9 external hollow points in 10 mill to see if it meets your standards for true 10 mill. As well as a test on Maxim Defense’s tui rounds for short barreled rifles.
😎👍
I’m definitely not a light for caliber fan, but if for some reason I didn’t have my HST’s or Gold Dots or couldn’t get ahold of other quality hollow points (Buffalo Bore, Underwood, Defiant etc.) I guess this would beat FMJ’s. 🤷🏼♂️
Yep
Tell us you're an old fart without telling us you're an old fart😂.
Great test. I truely believe that these types of rounds are for up front and personnel carried in a short close and personal platform (G43) with trying to limit over penetration but increase deafness. Not for a Duty type platform where the environment is quite variable.
😎👊
This stuff will definitely keep the ER surgeon busy!
Mhmm
I used this for my nighttime apartment defense until last night. I always tried to rotate the chambered round, I could have messed up. However I found 2 round where I had to manually press the bullet back into the shell. I'm assuming that's no longer safe to shoot. I'm losing trust in the rounds.
Liberty ammo is crazy good. The ultra light round in .380 is crazy for a .380 round. Thats prob why its 41.00 a box of 20. Love liberty ammo
Civil defense is my favorite carry round, now im gonna have to upgrade to these overwatch
😎👊
Watching the frags kinda got me craving candy from my youth (poprocks) lol
Well, it performs as it should so I'll give it that. Why anyone would use it as a self defense round is beyond me. Great video, Thanks!
Thank you sir.
