Summary and Evaluation: In 3 November 2003, Dugarry played for Birmingham against Charlton in the Premier League. He played as a Second Striker in a 4-4-1-1 formation, so basically the Frenchman had the role of a playmaker, while also roaming through all the offensive side delivering crosses, plus doing the pivot role and ball retention. It was not just his last goal for Birmingham, but also the last goal of his career. Throughout the match, Dugarry was the talisman and reference for Birmingham, with the team always throwing long balls for him to snatch (trust me, they would do that over and over again in the game, so much it was tiring, I even leave out some of it in the video, so it wouldn't be repetitive). Even though Duga wasn't at his best for playmaking in this game, he delivered it for his header and crosses (and his first touch of course, something he never lacks it). After his goal, he got momentum and pushed forward again and again, almost scoring twice if it wasn't for Charlton's goalkeeper who was having a great match, and almost delivered an assist too at the end. Watching this and realizing he scored his last goal here, only to left EPL and his career in 2004 with 31 years old by his own decision, makes it clear that Dugarry still had years left in the tank, and who knows maybe he was a late bloomer like Zidane and was just reaching his true peak in skills and technique... It looks like Duga left Birmingham for family reasons, as his relatives didn't adapt to England and the city, and he was there in his own. The injury he suffered mid-season also contributed to that conclusion. And he didn't retire and left for Qatar for lack of offers, he had one from Benfica after Birmingham, but probably rejected it since his family didn't approve it, so he just snatched a money-grab deal with Qatar SC.
