I wish cheerleading was like this now. No limits, if you can do it, show it off. i love the natural spirit, not the fake spirit most teams have now. it looks like it was alot more fun back then. it's way more fun to watch cheerleading from the 80's because it's all different and creative, nowadays everyone does all the same skill to different music. love it!
Hey ADofTexas, Thanks for the great video. This is how I remember cheer. Wanted to know if you have Los Al 1985, when they won nationals. Keep posting up these unbelievable routines. WilsonCheer
I do like this cheering and agree there is more creativity. But, being a cheerleader myself, I can experience how much more athletic cheerleading has become. Back then a tuck was advanced whereas today it's a standing bhs whip double full. Pyramids with all flyers standing on both feet versus a 360 ball up tic toc to bow and arrow or scorpion then double down.
Dave here This is a Rey Lozano routine. We were friends but did compete teams against one another. Mater Dei was my school. There are a few of their winning routines. Grapevine high school as well. Well done los al. Miss coed high school teams.
If you have any videos from that time, please post them so others can see them, too. Even if the caliber of the squad was not great, the style and skills allowed are worth seeing.
Any one have uploaded Los Alamitos National Winning competition of Ghostbusters. Really want to show my kids. It was AMAZING from 1984 or 85. How many years later is this and I still can't get over how awesome it was. I"ve been looking for it on the 60 minutes broadcast too! :) Thanks for your help
@lg5713 Patrick, thank you for your outstanding performance. Your generation was the golden age of cheerleading, and what is done to day pales by comparison. God bless you for your contribution.
@aliciakathleen5 Glad you enjoyed the video. What you have called more athletic is solely the tumbling which any gymnastics school can teach. Equipment has changed, too. But the stunts are not impressive. No handstands, no saltos. No more mini-tramp mounts.
@ADofTexas i like how bases toss the flyer into a layout :) I'd say they are both difficult in their own ways..this video uses fewer bases per flyer and builds higher pyramids which takes -alot- more steadiness!! and trust in your team mates! today stunt groups may have 3 girls/ 1 flyer but they are doing 360/540ups/tic tocs/the 360 ball up with bow n arrows & scorpions. alot more flexability & balance. and the triple toe tucks/toe touch fulls are cool...altho here they are sooo sharp here!!
I wish I did. I stopped taping when I moved to Louisiana, and fell into extreme poverty for 5 years. Maybe some other viewers will have it and be inclined to upload their copies.
I remember this... LOVED LOVED LOVED IT! That whole Cali style just blew me away. It's still awesome! Great job Los Al! I want to see the 1982 tape with the spell out. Awesome!
wow this is funny. im 13 and our cheerleaders arent as good as these girls and guys great job(:
totally cool
Your age is not the point. It is the restrictions placed upon cheerleaders so they do not train these skills anymore.

I used to coach a HS team in Massachusetts years ago and Dave Marquez would choreograph our routine. This looks like a Marquez routine.

@@calbear1313 I still remember your we won we won key chains. Danvers HS in Danvers Ma.
@GetDropkick I agree about the lack of creativity today, but I wouldn't want to do away with the safety rules, they're there for a reason.

Cheerleading back then was way more entertaining. As of today it's very boring watching the same thing over and over .

It was from 1985 and I can't find it anywhere except for a small snippet from the ABC News show 20/20 about Southaven cheerleading

Your mom is awesome. You should love her even more!

@GetDropkick
I am so glad you love the old cheerleading as much as I do. We can return to this. Dump the current organizations and form new ones.
If you ever find that tape, upload it so I can see it too!
You are welcome, and I am grateful for your word of encouragement.
Yes, I agree. They show us what can be done.
I agree. Thanks for watching.
my mom is in this !!! :)
