Ray had an incredible voice. His work with Jake is insane! I still listen to Badlands and watch some of the rehearsal vids. What a voice and what a performer! Mike is a pounding bass player that really keeps the groove strong. What a great loss to the music world both Ray and Mike. RIP gentleman.

Mike Starr was incredible! I saw him perform with Alice In Chains and first met him in 1992 at the Roseland ballroom when he blew that place apart! There is a video of the show too. Mike was wearing a hat and he had more charisma than all those guys in Alice In Chains put together! that’s just my opinion.I was there and I watched everything that was going on at the time and Mike was the superstar of that group!
It’s very sad that he’s not remembered.

Mike Starr was great! He is missed.
I loved Alice In Chains and first met Mike at Roseland ballroom when he played with AIC.
That was an amazing night seeing Alice In Chains. Mike was wearing a hat that night.
      The show was filmed.
As close as I was to Ray I spent more time with Mike and have so many memories with him over 17 years of our friendship. RIP

@@a.romano6532 Wow what I would have given to see the AIC boys. It's funny though because back in the mid to late 80"s I was living in Kansas City... going through a really bad addiction issue and a nasty divorce not to mention some other not so good things... but I was so deep in my own issues that i didn't really know about what was going on in the music world in the Pacific NW. I was always a classic rock girl anyway... Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Grand Funk, Credence, Bad Company, ACDC, Rush, Heart etc... the Seattle "thing" didn't catch my attention at the time. Then my youngest son bought guitar hero or Rockband or something like that. One night I was in his room and he was playing some band/music I hadn't heard of. I can't remember what it was but I liked it. Then I saw the Dr. Drew Sober House TV show or something like that and it had Mike Starr in it. For some reason he really caught my attention. He talked about how Alice was the best band in the world and damn it he meant it! :) So I started listening to AIC. I liked other "grunge" bands but it was Alice that I fell in love with... Mike was right they were the best band in the world (to me anyway) ;) Nobody played bass like Mike Starr EVER... not even close. And Layne Staley omg I fell in love with that man as did a whole lotta girls/women. The harmonies between Jerry and Layne are legendary in my opinion. I don't know but they all (Sean too) just spoke to me I guess you could say- their music touched my soul. That may sound really dumb but hey... gotta call it like it is. I always thought that had I grown up in Seattle instead of Kansas City those guys would have probably been good friends of mine. Yeah, wishful thinking I know... but a girl can dream, right? Ok I'm sure I have taken up too much of your time but I wanted to say that I appreciated your response. If you ever wanna share a story with someone who could appreciate how amazing it must have been "back in the day"... please keep me in mind....I would love it. Thx A. Romano!!!

Mike starr was a real rockstar man , so talented , awesome stage presence , natural charisma just amazing . He desrved much better , aic biggest mistake was kikicking him out , everything after dirt was just ok . I understand he had problems but they all did , im aware we dont know what actually went down but from the outside it def looks to me that it was mainly out of jealousy, still love the other dudes tho but that was a big mistake . It kinda reminds me of thw situation with dave abbruzzese, he did way too much for pearl jam and wasnt even inducted into the hall of fame . Life is unfair but hey at least people still recognize their talent .

Been delving into Ray material again as I do from time to time. Very well done tribute put together for him and Mike. Always wondered how things would have turned out with Sabbath if he stayed onboard, but it seemed like a lot of turmoil trying to hold things together for the band at the time. Only wish there was better quality recordings of that time. And hey, we would not have all the recordings he did that followed. Ordered a copy from Ebay of this to complete the collection.

When you hear Ray sing on that Sabbath record you know he’s the best singer in the world.
I liked him better than anybody!
Especially on that album the way he sang the shining was just incredible! Very powerful singer! Ray was so powerful he would break all the the diaphragms and all the microphones!

I have a question regarding the band's name, as I have only just now become aware of its existence. Since there was the Badlands song by the same name which was sung by Ray Gillen I'm assuming that's where the idea originated. Whose suggestion was it then, or was it the other way around and the band name predates the song? Just wondering.
Oh, and it's a good song, 'Hardlife'; like the guitar playing too.

    • @a.romano6532
      @a.romano6532  3 года назад +4

Very good question. The name Sun Red Sun came from Ray Gillen’s insistence.
Ray had told me that he wanted to always name a band called Sun Red Sun and how Badlands had recorded a song with that title.
At that time in 1993 the Badlands Dusk album was not out and nobody knew about those recordings. I’m glad you like the track..
It means a lot to me that those guys are remembered..
      RIP Ray and Mike
