I just learned more about these camps in 5 minutes than in my entire school education. Thank you for bringing some awareness to a part of our country's history that the textbooks have left behind.
My white 3rd great grandfather on my mother’s side was a Union private & fought at the Battle of Marks Mills in Arkansas. Apparently about 100 enslaved people joined the Union soldiers during the battle. Although outnumbered, the Confederate soldiers killed many Union soldiers including most of the escaped enslaved persons. My 3rd great grandfather was not killed; instead he walked several hundred miles to a Confederate prison camp in Texas where he remained till the end of the war. My Black 3rd great grandfather on my father’s side was enslaved, and I believe he was a cook at various Union camps, but I’m still researching his journey. Thank-you for a delightful posting about Harpers Ferry!
This was so interesting what an incredible hobby or job honestly bringing those old pictures and stories to life is so important to trying to change things now but we have come a long way in life this time a long way to go but still xx
I grew up in West Virginia and studied about Harper's Ferry but my teachers never mentioned about the camps. I wonder if even they knew about them and the stories you are now bringing to light and life.
As someone else wrote, you've taught more about these camps, even their very existence, than we were ever taught in school. Which is a true shame. I've never been interested in Civil War history but this video makes me very interested in this one aspect of it. I'm only sorry I had to wait until I was forty to learn of it!
This is Awesome to see! ive done several reenactments at Harpers Ferry as a contraband and have never seen a contraband camp! what group are you involved in??

Are the folks at 3:40 playing dreidel?. or is Dreidel actually part of a genre of spinning-top games that I wasn't aware of?
I saw that and thought dreidel. I can see how dreidel could become a gambling game. @NotYourMamasHistory do you know?
Beautiful work

Good video and yes, I did learn somethings 🙂🌻💕
Nice video. Very informative.
Been thinking about moving to Harpers Ferry. Can you give me an honest opinion of the race relations there?
Crayfish, tho.
