We had this BMW X5 and it wouldn't start, so after the diagnostics first thing we decided to do was to replace the spark plugs and camshaft position sensor. We will upload more videos with the exact same car. Subscribe for our channel on RUclips for many more videos. Thanks for watching.

Thanks!!! Just got an estimate from my local bimmer clinic to replace spark plugs and coils for $695.... And now I feel pretty confident I can do it myself... Thanks again.
Thank you guys. This video made it a lot easier for me to get to the spark plugs and coils replaced on my x5.
I'm doing this and a couple of other things while I'm in there on a 2001 X5 3.0 and this video was helpful.
Good Job .I confuse looking where to plug in de wire camshaft. but now I know thanks to showing your video.
Happy to be useful
Good vid well illustrated
The sensor part was increadibly helpful, thank you a lot!
You are a f&&kin genius.
You can save a little time and replace the valve cover gasket without removing the cabin air filter housing as long as you are careful with the vacuum tubing it may need replacing anyways if it hasn't been done so keep that in mind. As far as oil I use Castrol, Pennzoil Full Syn and Mobil 1 they all work just fine as long as you use 5-30 and my engine is pushing 250k miles running smoothly
Yes, I agree. Just use an appropriate sized socket extension bar.
Hello my friend, after unscrewing the spark plugs, it does not have its type written on it. If it is platinum or iridium, how do I know its type?
Do not you blow the spark plugs to get the dirt out?
No other videos on this? This was EXCELLENT.
Also, what brand of gloves does he use? Are they insulated against electricity? They seem rubber at the finger tips.
i use regular gloves from 99c store, proved to be the best fit
So you would still use Castrol 10w30 on a 2001 X5 now? Can't find the manual spec for a used 2001 X5
@@fatdano2420 Full synthetic castrol edge is the oil we use all the time on all bmws, it doesn't matter that it is old car it still requires the best products like good oil and premium gas. As for viscosity it depends on where you live, here in los angeles 5w-30 and 10w-30 are a great fit and widely used on variety of bmw engines
@@Zeiten Seems like every shop here in Central Oregon uses Mobil1 (even though it clearly says Castrol on the oil cap). Even the dealers here. Why defy BMW's official choice?
@@fatdano2420 Thats the question i constantly asking, simple answer is mobil 1 is a cheaper oil and it is good oil but for some reason from my experience it doesn't work good with bmw engines
Hello my friend what is the best type of spark plug x5 e53
I like bosch the most, ngk is also good
Can someone please do an expansion tank thermostat change? I have a damaged one now. I'm not certain whether or not if I can simply switch it out with new one bcuz the housing in there seems damaged too. Which means I have to buy a new radiator or the entire plastic piece that bolts to side of radiator that the thermostat seats into. If I'm wrong please advise thanks.
hi, thermostat always comes with a housing so you will have to change the whole thing, we have a video how to change water pump and thermostat on e46 and it is almost the same as on your e53, expansion tank replacement is pretty simple, nothing holds it except hoses and metal clip with kind of plastic handle on the bottom, if you need to change expansion tank mounting plate it is held in place by 2 t-25 screws on located close to the top on side of the radiator and another one on the bottom, this mounting plate is separate from radiator and you don't have to buy a new radiator to replace it
Zeiten LLC I have already replaced the thermostat that seats behind the clutch fan. Without having to remove that 32mm bolt to said clutch fan.
My comments were more specific to the small thermostat which regulates temp for the Automatic Transmission via the Coolant system. I have the new part but I am not sure of the orientation for re installation of it into the bottom (not very bottom here....), of expansion tank the coolant is poured into. I'm not certain whether I can post a picture of the damaged one on vehicle now.
I got code P0013 the exhaust camshaft position actuator circuit/open Bank 1 it indicates. So the camshaft position sensor you pointed to in your video here is this the same as what I stated above in terms of location I'm looking for to change out said sensor? And once part is removed can I just replace the bad sensor or do I need to do entire wire with connector piece too..oh disregard last aspect I watched video again and saw that I have to do wire as well it's one unit piece...homer Simpson moment bud...lol
Hi can you please tell me how to find the spark plugs in a bmw x5 e53 51 plate i look all over in it but i do not see it i do the pcv and now i want to do the plugs can you please tell me how to find it it is a 3.0 desil my name is Dwight i
What kind of spark plug this x5 v6 3.0 requires. Iridium or regular ?
Doesn’t really matter
Yes, either one will work, but if you are using the iridium plugs, be careful when checking/adjusting the spark gap since iridium plugs have fragile electrode tips. In most cases, iridium plugs do not need to adjust the spark gap.
Does anyone know the expected gas mileage?
Ok love the video, but I have a 4.6 is, I have the crankshaft sensor, where is it on the truck?? One code is telling me this is the problem.. HELP!!!
As far as I remember crankshaft position sensor is on the bottom right between engine and transmission on passenger side
Same thing mines doing
How many camshaft sensor they X5 2003 have?
inline 6 will have 2 camshaft position sensors and v8 will have 4 camshaft sensors
No there's only one camshaft sensor and one crankshaft sensor in the inline 6. And they are not the same part each is specific so make sure you get the correct one
Do I have to change all that I just need my knock sensor on
symptoms can be the same but cause is different, and knock sensors located under intake manifold, this is a camshaft position sensor
@@Zeiten okay another thing my radio does not play it comes on but no sound what you think that is
@@silkyslim2054 most likely radio itself, swap it out, i think you can find a used radio for 20-30$ online
@@Zeiten okay I'm under here now but I can't find the knock sensor I took every thing on top of it
@@Zeiten is ther anyway I can sho you what I'm talking about I really need this done
What was the size of the socket used to remove oil filter cap with filter attached on it ??? And sensor here is intake side correct?
socket size is 32mm, and yes it was intake cam sensor
Zeiten LLC thanks. Is there any video upon how to test the dual solenoid that sits on driver side of engine? I replaced the exhaust side cam sensor if im correctly saying name of part. I replaced the O2 sensors on exhaust side but can't seem to get the ones off down stream. I think my head gasket is blown as well. I started sourcing parts. It keeps overheating on me. I put new thermostat, coolant reservoir tank, plugs on thus far. I have new coil packs not installed yet. I wanna check all parts that run cooling system..i know the water pump could be issue also..as to overheating not to mention heater core that sits under dashboard. So i have my work cut out tackling these things..head gasket is what im more concerned with..i need to know the torque specs i guess this task is no more than how i had to change one on my Zx7r bike. I have manual for bike need to get BMW manual
oh my god where is this guy I need his phone number is so good, please.......
boss!
