    You can save a little time and replace the valve cover gasket without removing the cabin air filter housing as long as you are careful with the vacuum tubing it may need replacing anyways if it hasn't been done so keep that in mind. As far as oil I use Castrol, Pennzoil Full Syn and Mobil 1 they all work just fine as long as you use 5-30 and my engine is pushing 250k miles running smoothly

      Yes, I agree. Just use an appropriate sized socket extension bar.

      So you would still use Castrol 10w30 on a 2001 X5 now? Can't find the manual spec for a used 2001 X5

    • @Zeiten
      @Zeiten  4 года назад +1

      @@fatdano2420 Full synthetic castrol edge is the oil we use all the time on all bmws, it doesn't matter that it is old car it still requires the best products like good oil and premium gas. As for viscosity it depends on where you live, here in los angeles 5w-30 and 10w-30 are a great fit and widely used on variety of bmw engines

    Can someone please do an expansion tank thermostat change? I have a damaged one now. I'm not certain whether or not if I can simply switch it out with new one bcuz the housing in there seems damaged too. Which means I have to buy a new radiator or the entire plastic piece that bolts to side of radiator that the thermostat seats into. If I'm wrong please advise thanks.

    • @Zeiten
      @Zeiten  6 лет назад +1

      hi, thermostat always comes with a housing so you will have to change the whole thing, we have a video how to change water pump and thermostat on e46 and it is almost the same as on your e53, expansion tank replacement is pretty simple, nothing holds it except hoses and metal clip with kind of plastic handle on the bottom, if you need to change expansion tank mounting plate it is held in place by 2 t-25 screws on located close to the top on side of the radiator and another one on the bottom, this mounting plate is separate from radiator and you don't have to buy a new radiator to replace it

      Zeiten LLC I have already replaced the thermostat that seats behind the clutch fan. Without having to remove that 32mm bolt to said clutch fan.
      My comments were more specific to the small thermostat which regulates temp for the Automatic Transmission via the Coolant system. I have the new part but I am not sure of the orientation for re installation of it into the bottom (not very bottom here....), of expansion tank the coolant is poured into. I'm not certain whether I can post a picture of the damaged one on vehicle now.
      I got code P0013 the exhaust camshaft position actuator circuit/open Bank 1 it indicates. So the camshaft position sensor you pointed to in your video here is this the same as what I stated above in terms of location I'm looking for to change out said sensor? And once part is removed can I just replace the bad sensor or do I need to do entire wire with connector piece too..oh disregard last aspect I watched video again and saw that I have to do wire as well it's one unit piece...homer Simpson moment bud...lol

    What kind of spark plug this x5 v6 3.0 requires. Iridium or regular ?

    • @Zeiten
      @Zeiten  4 года назад +1

      Doesn’t really matter

    • @ksk5517
      @ksk5517 2 года назад

      Yes, either one will work, but if you are using the iridium plugs, be careful when checking/adjusting the spark gap since iridium plugs have fragile electrode tips. In most cases, iridium plugs do not need to adjust the spark gap.

      Zeiten LLC thanks. Is there any video upon how to test the dual solenoid that sits on driver side of engine? I replaced the exhaust side cam sensor if im correctly saying name of part. I replaced the O2 sensors on exhaust side but can't seem to get the ones off down stream. I think my head gasket is blown as well. I started sourcing parts. It keeps overheating on me. I put new thermostat, coolant reservoir tank, plugs on thus far. I have new coil packs not installed yet. I wanna check all parts that run cooling system..i know the water pump could be issue also..as to overheating not to mention heater core that sits under dashboard. So i have my work cut out tackling these things..head gasket is what im more concerned with..i need to know the torque specs i guess this task is no more than how i had to change one on my Zx7r bike. I have manual for bike need to get BMW manual
