The NEW PRS CE 24 Semi-Hollow vs a PRS CE 24 Solid Body Guitar

- Today Brett sits down with both the PRS CE 24 Semi-Hollow and the PRS CE 24. The CE 24 is an American made Guitar with American made pickups and a bolt on neck. The CE 24 Semi-Hollow gives us those same specs, but it has a chambered body with an F-Hole.

I'd never really looked at PRS bolt-on versions...but then I did and bought one. It is without a doubt the BEST guitar I've ever played. I've had it several months and still smile every night. The 85/15's are so clear, so defined but with power as well. The neck shape is fast and all kinds of good!
I think the semi-hollow version sounds a bit more open, and a little more growl. I'm going to sell most of my other guitars and get the semi-hollow. When you finally find "the one" you might as well have both versions of it.
Nice review! Thanks!
The CE24 Semi-Hollow are chambered on BOTH sides of the body, not just the side with the F hole. There is a solid piece of wood in the middle of the body that's about 4 inches wide. Simply take off the electronics back plate and you can plainly see the other side is hollow as well.
I didn't know that! I do own one so thank you for that info!
Im wondering where you got that info because i sell these for a living and the rep from PRS said that its chambered only on the side that has the F hole ?
Knocking on my CE24 semi-hollow sounds the same at the bridge (with solid wood) and under volume & tone controls. Only under the F hole has the hollowed out sound.
@@stevethebeeline44 This isn't rocket science. As I've stated, take off the electronics back plate and LOOK inside. You can plainly see it is hollow on that side as well. Short of posting a damn picture to prove it to everyone just use your eyes.
@@inhaler1134 yeah after taking off the electronics back plate above the electronics cavity there is smaller hollowed out section also.
While I was at it I removed the back plate over the bridge springs and it’s a little more open sounding now. Cheers for the prompt to get out the screwdriver! 👍
The CE 24 was my favourite PRS model, until they brought out the CE 24 Semi Hollow. Just love it. Got one in black, not the biggest fan of flamed tops so the black top contrasting with the beautiful mahogany back just looks so classy. The rosewood on mine is so dark it looks like a piece of ebony. Just a beautiful instrument in every way.
thanks for the demo, trying to decide between the regular CE 24 and the semi hollow.
If you play at lower and moderate volumes get the Semi hollow. I got mine 2 days ago. Absolutely amazing. The sound is fantastic. I do not recommend this guitar for extreme volume, as it is semi hollow. I have had several custom 22's, 513's. Mira's, And several Ce 22's (which has been my favorite of all). I even had a DGT, that I did not like. Here is the deal. The weight and balance of this guitar is great. Being semi hollow the resonance is outstanding. BUT, that is hard to control at extreme volumes. Most of all every position sounds great!
@@kckennedy55 thanks, i got to play one today, very impressed - and good to know on the volume. Probably keep it quiet but you never know. I like some old school rock as well so maybe i'll look at a regular 24 just in case.
imunchienandalusia Get the semi
would have loved to hear a little bit of the semi- with no amp. as a neophyte who has much yet to learn, i spend so much of my practice time unplugged that a divine tone during that mode is something I value a lot. the reason is because it's such a part of what pulls me to keep-on-keepin'-on while my fingers are getting tortured.
Looks & sounds awesome.
thank you!
Will the semi-hollow be able to shred and do tapping as easy as the non semi-hollows? I've hear hollow guitars tend to be more clear and have less sustain and are not good for tapping and metal solos. Its the only question I have before I decide to buy since I really enjoy tapping and shredding and I don't want that to be compromised.
I tap on my semi-hollow CE 24 and it sounds amazing! Sustain is just fine on a semi-hollow. I don’t think you’d need to worry too much since it’s a pretty high end guitar, there are only very minor differences
I've had my 2017 CE for awhile now... and just bought a core 24. I thought the core would be a huge upgrade. It has a nicer top carve. I thought I would sell my CE for it... but my CE sounds so epic I can't depart from it. I thought my core would sound almost same but because of neck they sound very different. I honestly think I like the CE tone better in humbucking mode... brighter, clearer, more attack . But in coil tap I prefer the core... warmer rounder sounding. The core also sounds warmer with delay, slide, etc...both epic for different music but neither better than the other. Those who dis on the new CE are clueless... it's one of best underated guitars ever made...
I'm on my 3rd Ce24 a regular, a DW Floyd and a semi hollow. I never ever use my core custom 22 or Les Pauls. CE are superior guitars, the cores are basically more of an eye camdy
@@AllCarsUnited agree the CE guitars are epic. I just sold mine not because it wasn't amazing but I just have too many guitars... and it sounded too much like my core.... and I didn't need both.
Hey Brett thanks for the vid man. Which PRS would you recommend if I wanted to get as close to a Santana sound as possible? I really love that warm smooth latin jazz sound he gets and would want my PRS to master that sound more than any other
We would definitely recommend the PRS Santana Model. mooreguitars.com/pre-order-prs-se-santana-singlecut-trem-egyptian-gold/ We have this one available for Pre-Order and we do get Core Santana Models in from time to time. If you want to get as close to a Santana model as possible, we would recommend those guitars.
Mr.J31 PRS SE SANTANA
I have all the variants of the new ce24s and I find that the semi hollow appeal is it's weight or lack of.
3:42 is what I wanted to hear from this guitar🤘🤘🤘
Any plans of adding piezo to the McCarty line ?
Excellent review and playing! I recently got a PRS CE 24 solid body, but the semi-hollow may be next. May I ask what distortion pedal you are using? Has a nice, fat organic tone. I will definitely check out your website to check out some of those "crazy deals" you spoke of.
CLEAN !!!
Is it a pattern thin neck on the semi hollow? They both sound great guys!
Oh yes you said that
It is !
Thank you
I have a CE24 1991 with HFS and Vintage Bass pickups. Could you do a video
comparing the new CE24 with 85/15 pickups and a CE24 with HFS and Vintage Bass pickups?
Thank you
Hello, how many pieces is the neck? Thank you
3
Maybe I missed it from the video but could you tell me what is the name of the color option on your CE24 semi hollow demo guitar?
Vintage sunburst I believe but take it with a grain of salt
Dark cherry sunburst I think
Red
Wasnt much of a comparison...
Fundamentally, are there any major differences (besides the pickups) to the older CE models?
The Semi-Hollow version is much more resonant. It gives a little more in terms of low mids and a little less upper-end bite.
@@MooreMusicGuitars Sorry, should clarify- do the newer CE models (2016-Present) have major differences to the original CE models (1988-2008?)
Wells306 Yesss Everything is different and much higher quality on the originals for example much deeper German top carve - countersunk vol tone and selecter switch - countersunk tremolo and electronics cavity covers - Made in USA Hardware ( bridge Locking Tuners same stuff used on the Core models) - Dragon Pickups - 1 piece nitro finished quarter Sawn Neck The new model is cost cutting to the fullest .. the top barely has a dish/German carve... the vol tone and 3 way switch are not countersunk the trem And electronics covers are not countersunk and sit on top of the body ... all the Hardware is made in Korea and is the same as the SE models same with The Korean made pickups the Neck is also a 3 piece satin finished flat Sawn Maple Neck .... Eric Petrossian thanks, you just sold me
@@ericpetrossian1582 You sold me as well. I just picked up an '03 CE 22.
Maybe this guy should learn to play guitar first! This prs presentation is a joke 😩
I’m not really getting it , playing sounds is useless as it has so many variables. Really the way I think to compare is compare negatives.
