Many years ago, I worked in a pharmacy. We had a hurricane warning, and all of a sudden, my entire town decided they needed batteries. We sold out of all the common sizes almost immediately, and so did all the local suppliers we tried. Most people wanted C and D cells for radios and flashlights, but AA and AAA sizes were wiped out too. We even sold out of the rectangular 9v batteries. No idea what people were using those for. This crazy rush happened over about two days, with the last few hours before the hurricane being the craziest. We did not sell a single CR123A cell during that whole time. We had a bunch of them, but nobody wanted them. In other words, it pays to have at least one flashlight that can use CR123A batteries, because they are widely available, but not widely used by the general public.
How many years ago and where? Here in Southern California, CR123A have become somewhat common use in the past 5 years. Before you had to go to a gun store or Military surplus. Now Wal -Mart and Home Depot carry them and even they sometimes run out.
@@spacepope87 This was on Long Island during Hurricane Irene, so it would have been 2011. I think the geographic location is more significant than the year. Long Island doesn't have as many of the type of people who are likely to own a tactical flashlight.
@@spacepope87 Hardly anyone carries a gun on Long Island either, it's one of the most restrictive places in the country. I don't think other defensive tools are very common there either though. A lot of women have pepper spray, but there's not many 'tactical' type people.
Love this light but when the battery goes it goes, it doesn’t slowly dim, it just dies. With no heads up on battery life, I’ve been left in the dark a time or two. But I’d still recommend it. Well worth the money.
I keep this light as my backup to my main edc light, which happens to be the Protac 1L that takes only the CR123. That 1L has taken a MAJOR beating and is still running like a champ. Being that it’s much smaller than the 1L-1AA makes it a much better edc light. The 1L-1AA is just as good, and having the option to run the different battery is always a plus, tho I had no clue it took AAA’s as well. I’ll have to test that. I too will endorse this light as well as the standard 1L! Great choices!
The 1L-1AA is the best all purpose flashlight IMO. I have them stashed in every bag, pack, drawer and glovebox I own. Requires a single battery cell, either AA (most common battery on the planet) or CR123. Wonderful output/battery life ratio. High and Low beam. IPX7 waterproof rating. Extremely durable and reliable. Stupid simple user interface. Press or Click on and off. Short of a High Output Searchlight (like the HX-5) there is no reason to purchase any other light besides the 1L-AA.
Used this light as my EDC light for the last year or so. Didn't know it could take the AAA batteries. So good to know. No complaints about it. Been running it with a rechargeable CR123 and it's been decent. Only complaint I have about it is the short run time. But otherwise it's a great light. Recently upgraded to the protac 2Lx because I thought I had lost my other one. Loved the duel fuel (and apparently triple fuel ) ability of this little light and it's now my backup light.
I have two and one lasts 12 minutes while the other 25. I hate the short and false run time. But to be fair, I have a Surefire and the run time isn't as advertised as well.
@@RolandtheThompsonGunner the funny thing is that for a lot of made in China things is that there is a good chance the knock offs are literally the same and come from the same factory the real ones come from. Awesome flashlight I have two they work every time! Take a beating....still work great. You can find a battery in every house in America...wall clocks, remote controls, games etc.........
The fact that it takes 3 different batteries and is bright enough to light up a room, it probably makes it the best survival light. What I don't like is that it doesn't last as long as it says. I have two. Both bought from Galls. One only lasts 12 minutes and the other 25 on 350 lumens. But to be fair I have a Surefire that also doesn't last nearly as long as advertised. I wish they made one that could accept 2 AAA, AA or CR123A batteries.
I’m with you on your comment. My favorite EDC light. Small enough to not be a big deal to carry but large enough that I’m less likely to loose. Didn’t know about the aaa.
Have StreamLight. Always worked well. Not a fan of the multi function 10 settings flashlights... Seems overly complicated. But I DO like the power source variability!! Will investigate THIS model further. Thank You for sharing the information!
i have several of these. Without a double, best investments I ever made. Also EDC carry for self defense. 350 lumens is more than adequate for all your needs. Don‘t believe me....see all the positive recommendations on RUclips and online reviews.
Are there any other flash lights that can run on cr123, and AA? Other than this one I've found the Fenix Headlamp, but that one you need to carry the adapter.
The only thing I hate about this light is that battery feature. It takes some force to push it down with AA batteries and seems like it pushes the spring to much. I can see it weakening over the years. Regardless, this is still one of my favorite lights
Agree. If you keep packing AA consistently over time and then try a cr123 I do believe you will have faulty contact points due to crushed/weakened spring causing flickering of the light....but thats just my opinion and dont have that time to back it up.
@@forgedsteelwrench9249 Constant compression and decompression is what weakens a spring. Besides, you should stick to the superior CR123A batteries. AA & AAA are really only meant if you can't get a hold of the other one.
very good flashlight, but very expensive. my 5 euro (dollars) flashlight who I modified myself can run 8 or 9 kinds of batteries with 2 kinds of led,and 4 modes.
I got this flashlight and after I changed the battery to engergizer CR123 it gets really hot. Feels like it was going to explode. Does it happen or ever happen to you?
No power? No sunlight? No gas for generator? Generator doesn’t work bc of a flood or other issue. Light will also be on hold while charging hence leaving you with no light.

I’ve got one being delivered tomorrow, looking forward to checking it out

Three types of batteries and i suspect it can take the rechargeable equivalents. Pretty impressive.
It can use the rechargeable

Just bought this today after watching this video
got one for christmas may just have to get another one they put off a good bright beam

14500 and 16340 work also but because of the 3.7V low is as bright as high. There is one 16340ie from Keeppower that has 3V.
