By the way, for sonic sway you don’t need to press both buttons. Just press circle, you need to time it right. I do it all the time.

I was wondering why people keep saying both buttons. I've never used both before it's just timing. You can however guard into it so while blocking you can press circle mid combo to pull it off just gotta hit the timing

There is an input delay online also. Some matches are so laggy the counter will not work.

ps. I would also say side stepping can be considered a defensive option in this game (more of a tech) especially for countering Z burst dash

Fr it really forces you to implement several strategies, train, read your opponents moves and play smart
You might want to disable recovery assist too, it will override how you want to recover, so you can’t do mix ups

the z counter is specifically when you counter a follow-up vanishing attack, and starts the back and forth of vanishes til one mistimes/no ki left. a vanish is just the standard dodge for head-on rush attacks and blasts. and the super counter is the tricky one that counters pretty much any melee attack from any direction.

Be noted that super counters can be chained together. That means that you can super counter and then be super countered or z-countered yourself. So, if you are going to be hit by a super counter you can try to vanish or super counter yourself.
the question is how to recover from having your back turned,
once you start getting hit from the back there isn't much that can be done
at least from what I noticed

Seems like the only way to recover is landing a super counter but it's pretty hard to land consistently

The only way is with the Super Counter. Super counter works in every single situation, but since it’s frame perfect it’s very hard to pull off, but it works even if your being hit from the back, and every situation you can vanish, this works then too! It’s just a harder
Can i spam super counter or do i have only one chance per combo string. Game is pretty unclear on that.

On another note though, what’s your ranked experience so far? I haven’t been able to play the game yet but I’d like to know more about starting with transformations compared to transforming during the match in ranked 1v1s. (where each person can bring one character) And which game mode do you like better 1v1s or team battles?
@@cliff__ My experience is pretty mixed especially since I got the game both on PC and Playstation. I kinda like games with 1 character only, but teams are cool too as long as the point system is in place, otherwise the 5v5 format is just Chaos. I can appreciate chaos sometimes, but not all the time if that makes sense. I’ve heard Ragequitters are pretty frequent but so far I’ve met none. For now it doesn’t seem like you get a HUGE advantage if you transform, but this is just the first week so I could be wrong. I’d treat transformations as separate characters. To me it feels more rewarding when I can transform from base to the highest level mid-game but one of my friend preffers to start off with Broly fully powered up so to each their own.
Eventually when I have a better understanding about the game I’ll drop a review but for now that’s how I feel. This is a cool game that has far more depth than what I’ve thought it’s gonna have
Valid valid, lots of testing fir transformations need to be done, I just need to know if it’s worth it to pull off the cool looking transformations and do a 180 to the match with it hahaha. Anyways, I’ll look forward to your in-depth informative ranked experience!!!!

I was very good at defense in the older games. I was so happy when my skills still held up after all these years.
I z-countered the shit out of my opponent in my first online match. Felt like an old man who still had his athleticism.

I can’t Z/super counter in this game consistently for the life of me. Idk how you do it. In tenkaichi 3 I could do it more frequently than I can in this game.

FYI for recovery assist, it will make you do the same recovery every time so u cant do mix ups for recovery. Not that important but learning how to play without it would be helpful

It's funny that you find the vanishing so difficult. It's possibly the only defensive mechanic I've been able to take to fairly easily. It helped me realize how fucked the AI is in way too many episode battles when I chained 7, yes SEVEN vanish counters in a row against Vegito in the Black story and still got hit. Not to mention him wrecking my shit in general.
I'll be real its mandatory online. I had like a 20 something vanish streak with someone in ranked ystd lol.
@@pota7opotato573 Yeah I've watched some people playing this an it seems incredibly lame how much of a fight is spent between people just dodging back and forth over and over again. I've got very little interest in making myself miserable against playing online and only plan on doing it maybe Friday and Saturday while people still suck and I have the highest chance of enjoying myself against the influx of less sweaty players getting the game.

super counter can be done easier by just mashing it instead of timing it apparently
Facts! I found much better success by mashing instead of trying to time it.

Back in the Budokai Tenkaichi series (2 and 3 especially) it was impossible to vanish or counter by mashing. It would never work.

Issue I’m having is how to defend or counter a Z Rush. When they rush to you and automatically land behind you there has to be a way to counter that. It’s so annoying when fighting someone like Whis who is already busted, then the z rush gives you a free combo everytime. Anyone know how to counter this?

Iirc the super perception on a beam gives you a massive Ki-charge buff
So if you are low on Ki or wanna go into sparking mode (for 3 bars) its actually not that bad
How do you deal with unblockable attacks and ultimates I can’t dodge them due to there insane tracking especially beams and obviously I can’t block so what do I do here ?
If the ultimate is an energy attack you can vanish with R1 just before landing it
I think you do better in this game when ur more aggressive but you just know how to counter a lot

I don't remember Budokai Tekaichi 3 being nearly as deep as this. Granted, it has been a LOONG time since I played it, but I remember I was pretty good. Now I'm getting bodied by the CPU. And I'm used to traditional hardcore fighting games such as Guilty Gear Accent Core.
I wish you could switch button inputs. I prefer playing on classic but perception on standart is much easier to do.😓

what about when they're behind you and rushing you? how do you interrupt that combo? or at least get out of the chain of combos between the combo?
Guard assist DOES NOT mess up your inputs on standard mode. People need to stop spreading this myth around. Test it in training mode the auto guard does not count as a button press meaning you can be IN THE GUARD ANIMATION and still tap the button to vanish or anything else you wanna do!!
In fact most of the assist options won’t interfere with manual inputs at all. People are just saying this without any testing

People just don't train with bots anymore and do the turorial lol, also not playing in Super difficulty from start and with assistance will do very bad harm in the long term and in'll take so much time to unlearn the bad reflexes.
How do you stop a combo when your opponent is behind you. I keep getting stuck and they hit me like 30 times before I can do anything 😂
Try pressing up on the left analog stick and square at the same exact time. Seems to work better if you aren't already holding up. It works sometimes if you're already holding up and spamming square but I find it works better pressing up and square at same exact time. You can even spam it that way and get lucky.

Keep tilting up on the left stick and press square at the same time. Try not to hold up while mashing square. Try pressing them together at the same exact time. If you keep mashing up and square at same exact time, you'll get it and also you'll eventually see when the best times to do it is without having to mash/spam.
