    Great info 👍 earned at 15:47 I can't seem to adjust Addams family table backglass and dmd to size even when I right click on them and adjust sizing window. Doesn't seem to work. Any advice?

      You try left clicking and holding the bottom right corner? That's usually where you have to adjust it. Then right click to save for the table.

    Blown away, someone who can explain without blowing my mind how to do stuff. This part of the pinball front end and D2S had got me in way more trouble than you would think, now once I have finished my coffee I will be into my workshop following you video and hopefully get this working. So a massive thank you from me.

    Edit: I found the ROMS. You are the BEST for answering questions in here. I have had this video open for over 2 weeks now going back and forth through it. In VPX, 1. You have to click on the cabinet in the program to get the pinball table to show sideways on your screen (not landscape like mine was). 2. You have to put coins in - which I think you said by pressing the 5 key many times. 3. You have to press 1 to start the game. (This has eluded me for over a week but I finally figured it out). Yes, I am slow. THANKS SO MUCH!

    When you got it you just got it. This is an amazingly clear and understandable explanation that makes a fairly complex set of activities seem damn near easy. There are so many legitimate experts in this community (they are the ones who rise to the top of the list when you think "Visual Pinball") who although well meaning, simply do not have the ability to convey this information in the way it is presented here.
    No shade intended to those folks. Without them none of this would be possible, but it's guys like this guy who will "demystify" and grow this hobby into something more than it is today.
    Virtual pinball has lots of the former but very few of the latter. We need more people with communication skills like this in the community to truly realize the amazing future that lies ahead for VP - especially once VPE (Virtual Pinball Engine) takes over VPX.

      Wow, thanks Scott! I can't take all the credit though, all of the vpin community guys out there were how I learned a lot of my vpin knowledge....so hats off to them. I just tried to take it all in and make it my own so it could be easier to learn because to be honest, vpin is a lot to learn but sooo worth it. If you like my presentation style, you'll love all of my videos as it is kinda my niche on RUclips. I'm a tech ed teacher slash tradesperson who loves to make stuff and learn new skills (which I'm happy to share on RUclips). I've been doing this the hard way for years. Installing and playing tables individually (by clicking on the table file) with no front end, ect. on my desktop because I never had a cabinet. Learned a lot as most tables need tweaking to work and they don't tell you where all the files you download in the zip file go. I finally got the atGames Legend pinball cab and want to install my virtual pinball tables and pinup popper front end on it finally. This will help with everything I forgot or didn't make notes on. Thank you.

    I wish I would have found this a couple of weeks ago because it would have saved me a lot of frustration. So many of the other tutorials are hard to follow or poorly narrated whereas this one is nicely done and easy to follow ..... Yeah I'm a hardware guy too (Electronics Engineer with a mechanical background) and while I can explain exactly how a computer works at a hardware level I just hate setting up and dealing with software. Building the cab and setting up the electronics for me is the easy part and I actually enjoy it, it's setting up all the software and games that is the hardest and I just hate it. Same with computers in general, I've been building systems on the x86 platform since 1988 and love that part but just hate installing Windows and setting it up along with all my software

I'm actually dealing with a software issue right now as Pinvol doesn't seem to work with Future Pinball.....I've spent 2 weeks trying to get it to work. Some kinda screen exclusivity takes the focus away from Pinvol in the background. Thanks for the watch!

    For those who don't have a cabinet like me...you can still enjoy pinballs. You MUST get at least 2 monitors. You have 2 monitors (1 is rotating monitor..and one is not). You'd have more view if you get a rotating monitor and use it's your default..the table would look larger...rotating monitor (change to portrait) in a vertical position...use the other non-rotating one for your a backglass...

      @@wayofthewrench Hey good question. My brother gave me for free a Swords of Fury pinball that worked great up until 1994. He moved that year into a new house and disassembled this machine...he took off the back of it instead of just folding it down. So all the ribbon cables were unplugged and there are like 35 of them.. Anyhow this pinball machine has sit in his basement for about 26 years...right next to his furnace and sump pump. I found out that that room flooded a couple of times over the years. He never set it back up probably because he doesn't know where the cables plug into since he never labeled anything. He is moving again this year and I am into building arcades so he figured I might want it. I took it home and realized this cabling issue. Not to mention the legs were off of this thing for 26 years and the wood sat in water and did some damage. So now I have this deteriorating mess and wanted to get it working but it is dingy, the metal parts are starting to rust and I do not the money or knowledge to replace parts like the capacitors which deteriorated, the plunger is broken, all the rubber is dried out, etc. This so my first pinball table ever and I do not know where to start. I am a hobbiest woodworker and could build a cab not problem but I was thinking about gutting this thing and make a vpin out of it. It is actually a rare game I have been told... Williams brand...but the money I will have to put into it to fix and get someone who knows about how to fix seems kind of insane. So I was thinking about repurposing for a vpin unless anybody on here has any suggestions where I could maybe sell the parts from it or fix it somehow. I am kind of confused right now. As far as having a pc and graphics card I am good there

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  2 года назад +1

      Yeah I hear you, it's really hard to not get sucked into a nightmare where you spend way too much and end up not being able to find parts. I would look up the value of a restored version and see if it's even worth it. If the wood cabinet is gross but everything electrical is good, it might be worth it to build a new cabinet. If there is extensive issues or missing parts and it's not a sought after pinball table, then maybe sell what good electrical parts you have, toss the wood, and keep the metalwork and trim pieces like the coin door, lock bar, stainless trim, glass, buttons legs, etc and make a vpin. I'm thinking down the road I would like to restore an old pinball machine but I gotta finish some current projects first. Sounds like you have a cool project either way you choose. Keep me posted and I would love to see some pics if ya wanna dm me on Instagram. Cheers!

      I remember how overwhelming it was for me to start this process so I thought I would create this video so most of the common things that you need to do were in one place and timestamps to jump to the info you need quickly. Pinball y, Pinup Popper, Visual Pinball, Future Pinball, FX3, DOF, SSF, registries, batch files, settings, dmd settings, backglass not visible, volumes too low, extra/missing dmd, 2 screen/3 screen setups, pup packs, dmd rotations, Ultradmd, file types/where they go, naming protocols, zip files/unzip files, vpx/vpt playfield view adjusts........it is very daunting to someone new to this hobby. Thankfully there are lots of helpful people contributing to the vpin community. Thanks for the watch!

One thing I am still trying to figure out is Full DMD. I know how to add full DMD in media settings but not sure how to have the score show back up in the full DMD box. Could you please point me in the right direction on proper setup so the score appears within the full DMD box? Thanks!

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  2 года назад

      Glad I was able to help ya out! As far as I know, in media manager you just select a full dmd image with the blank area for the dmd. Then you would move the dmd over to that area and alter the size and position to fit in that area. Then save it globally or per table by right clicking on it. Now individual tables will have there own full dmd template so you may wanna do per table. There is also pup packs which I haven't explore too much yet but I know that some will use/can use a full dmd screen for alternative screens,video clips, etc. Best thing is to mess around with the media manager and see what is there and try playing around with some pup packs to see what you want. Thanks again, you got me back into trying to set up my cabinet. Couple of questions for a newbie like me to understand the layouts better:
    -I downloaded some tables, some come as a solo VPX file with an attached jpg, some come with media folders also in the zip file and some come with folders named PinupsSystem and Visual Pinball.
    I only have used the Pinup Popper install you showed earlier (All in one install) and it was successful. Are these other systems you can use for virtual pinball thats why they have other folders?
    Thanks for your time.

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  Год назад

      Yeah there can be different set ups for different tables but generally they are all the same. Vpx and b2s file must have matching names and go in the tables folder. Zipped rom files go in the rom folder. Everything else is usually stuff for extras like pup packs. The best advice I can give you is when you download the table, read the author's instructions carefully and and read me files. They usually tell you everything you need. Beyond that, Google is your friend.
      There are other systems like pinball x and pinball y or Launchbox but Pinup Popper is the best in my opinion.
      Thank for the watch!

    Got a newbie setup question . . . if I don't install .directb2s file for a table and just select some backglass media via the PinUp Popper Config, everything looks great when I run the game via the PinUp Popper Frontend. Is there added value in installing the .directb2s file versus just selecting media? Curious to your thoughts!
    The reason I ask is, when I install a .directb2s file, the backglass loads on top of my playfield and I have been unsuccessful in troubleshooting how to get that moved to my designated backglass monitor. However, if I simply remove the .directb2s file, the media I selected via the Pinup Popper Config loads and runs just fine when playing the game. Again, curious if you had any suggestions or links to helpful support articles as I've struggled to find a good resource via the different forums. Thanks!

      As far as I know there will be tables that will pop an error saying no b2s file found so that would be annoying. The backglass going to the wrong monitor is either an incorrect display numbering or the settings in vpx are telling it the wrong monitor. Look in video graphics options in vpx and see what monitor you have selected there for your playfield. There is also a screen res file that you can change during baller installer. Check this video out, it might help

    Hey Pinball Guru! I see a lot of pinball machines with VPX and/or Future Pinball… for cabinet.. and the how tos to build cabs, but right now I just want to play those games in my flat screen without the cabinet (not loaded with 5k $ or not skilled to build it myself). How do I configure VPX to tell him to not search for the back glass, DMD, speakers etc…? Is it doable to have only my screen with VPX? I downloaded it and had error messages by VPX to try to detect my back glass…. What’s your take on this ? Thank you!!

      @wayofthewrench  2 года назад

      Yeah I hear ya, I had my 2 tvs on my living room floor for like 6 months and had a ton of fun playing on just a keyboard. My new build is about $1500-2000 total and I'm building everything myself. If you stick around, I am filming the entire build as a diy tutorial so you could watch & learn and you could build one for yourself. As for the error, I bet when you set it all up, you probably selected a 2 or 3 monitor setup and so it's looking for the monitor. You might have to reset it up for 1 monitor. If there is no one monitor option, I would select 2 monitor and tell vpx that the display is the same for play field and backglass and then in pinup player just select always hide. That way it is displaying it but your not seeing it on the playfield. There is also an option to play with a desktop mode which allows you to play on a monitor/tv like it normally sits (landscape). If you get an error, send me a pic through Instagram of the error so I can help you out better. Thanks for the watch!

      Welcome to the channel Danny! This is actually a big no no in the community. You gotta remember that these tables are thousands of hours of work collected over decades by people who made the programs, created the tables, etc. When people collect these tables and package them up for people, it usually turns our free hobby into a money grab which is highly frowned upon. Plus each table requires a bunch of tweaking to run properly for every cabinet. Plus when things don't work, you won't know how to fix the issues. I recommend downloading the files one by one and figuring out how to set them up, you'll get more from the hobby doing this. Cheers!

      Vox table file and b2s backglass/dmd files go to the table file and must be named exactly the same. ROM goes to ROM folder in vipmame/ROM folder. Music goes into the music folder in vpinmame folder. Puppacks go into the pupvideos folder in the pinup popper folder after you have played the game once ( it will auto generate a folder with the name of the folder, also do not have a backglass b2s if you want a pup pack). This is a no no in the vpin community as there are lots of issues doing it this way. When you join the forums and download/install all the files where they need to go in order to work properly, you will learn how it all works and how to troubleshoot when they don't work. This is important to do/learn because every game/rom/b2s file/pup pack/music file will be different and need to be tweaked to work properly for your system. If you download a massive dump of files, you will have lots of issues plus they usually have lots of malware/trojans thrown in there too. The other thing is anyone who has all these files is usually trying to sell it which is a big no no and could cause this hobby to be ruined. I recommend vpforums and vpuniverse as a great way to start learning about the vpin community. Thanks for the watch!

      I haven't notice this, I'll have to look at mine once it's all setup again. Maybe your setting can be tweaked to fix this issue? I know certain tables can have issues if your gpu is struggling to keep up. Cheers!

    Force DMD ON to have the sample DMD show when selecting games in the Display setup in popper. That's why yours isn't showing when in the game select menus. Yours is force back atm.

      Thanks for the tip, I will have to do a final tweak of everything once it is all setup and running in the cabinet. My previous vpin computer build had everything setup but I must have missed that on this baller installer setup. Do you have a virtual pinball cabinet? Thanks for the watch!

      @@wayofthewrench Yes I have a VPin, I built a 3/4 scale. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles. 3 screen cab with tilt bob, plunger and nudge as well exciters (will add solenoids later). Limited space so I didn't want to over do it with toys in this 3/4 scale (plus a shaker motor may over kill). It is themed with TimeShock! Ultra as the marquee game so I can just boot as a TimeShock! only pin (if some company would only make a real TimeShock! pin, I would buy that in a heartbeat. But it does have Popper installed for other emulators/tables as well. It was my starter VPin as I now embark on full size with every toy I can get for it.

      Nice! I've never heard of Timeshock, I'll have to check it out since you spoke so highly about it. Are you going to keep the 3/4 scale vpin or sell it to recoup the money for the full size?

      @@wayofthewrench Keeping it. It's to nice to sell lol! I will post pics soon if you want.

      For Williams/Bally tables, you press the end key on the keyboard to bring up the coin door open dmd screen and then press the number 8 or 9 key on your keyboard to change the volume. Hope that makes better sense, let me know if it didn't. Cheers!

    I am brand new to this is it possible to get everything to fit in one screen ( game and score)I want to build my own

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  Год назад +1

      Yes, it is possible and quite easy. Just use baller installer and pick 1 monitor, either desktop or landscape. Both work, just depending on what style you like. Cheers!

    Most of these will never run! Theres always missing files and if ya download the missing fies theres probably another set of missing files and there are 17 versions of every table all with the same name. Nobody will ever put them all together because they are "Roms" which have legal problems. STICK WITH ORIGINAL MADE TABLES. You wont be that impressed but you wont be upset and pissed off after hours of downloading stuff trying to make it work AND IT WILL NEVER WORK

      I would agree that some have issues or need tweaking to get running but in general, they do work. What vp versions are you downloading? The originals are great too! Thanks for the watch!
