SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AND LIGHTNING STRIKES HD 720p

- This part of the storm was recorded @ 330pm on 7/18/12 and lasted about 20min. The whole storm went through all of eastern MA, all of RI and some portions of CT. This is in South Weymouth, MA outside my house. The storm is still going on here @ 530pm and will last until maybe 7pm. At around 3 minutes into it you can see a great lightning strike. But feel free to watch the whole thing!
Man, when you hear the "snap" as the lightning hits, that is CLOSE!! I like him saying "Get the dogs out of here!" Hell, my dog would have been under the bed sev minutes back! LOL
+b3j8 yeah we were just worried it would hurt the dogs ears due to them being right near the open door. Our dogs love the thunderstorms very weird lol. most dogs ive come across hate thunderstorms and run and hide.
+Zachary Leavitt We also have a couple cats and one of them will usually sleep right thru storms so I get it. lol But our dog is gone the minute she hears that first rumbles of thunder. Hope nothing was damaged around your house, incl the house.
My last Guide Dog, Zahara loved thunderstorms. She especially loved to go outside during heavy rain showers, and after a good soaking, I'd let her dry and give her a thorough grooming with two different brushes and a comb. I think it made her fur softer, too. I just love those bonding times. I've had four Guide Dogs and hope to get another one if I can find more opportunities to travel and volunteer. What breed(s) are yours?
She's an Amstaff(American Staffordshire Terrier) mostly, w/a couple others thrown in. Wonderful dog, and tolerates the cats just fine. LOL Cats are mixes ended up at our door over the yrs.

wow, huge amount of lightning, for me that makes the storm. great for videoing since this storm did not have torrential rain or wind noise. seeing that much frequent cloud to ground lightning is pretty rare. a treat to be sure, thanks for sharing!

I'm a meteorologist and live in Weymouth. I remember that day, those storms nailed SE MA. That looks like some good backside + cloud to ground bolts there.

One of those afternoon or evening summer thunderstorms! I used to live in Central Florida from 1969 to 1971 on Florida's space coast. Are you by chance familiar with Florida at all? It's called the space coast because it's near the famous and historic Kennedy Space Center where they used to launch the space shuttle vehicles from. We lived in a city named Satellite Beach,Florida which is about 30 or so minutes from the space center. My late father was in the Air Force and was stationed at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. But we lived in the Patrick AFB housing units. Anyway, we had quite a few of these storms during the spring and summer months.

Again, Zachary..this is quite an OOTW-Tstorm video ((OOTW = Out Of This world))...from 7/18/12...almost 3 1/2 years ago.... And I was able to directly put the thunder from video onto audiotape here...so I can hear the huge thunderclaps right out of my tape recorders/tape decks/stereo... BTW..not sure as to how you did in 2015..but 2015 brought me some big Tstorms here in southern RI.... and I have these videos from last year all on RUclips.: 3/26/15, 6/23/15, 7/1/15, 7/15/15, 7/27/15, 7/28/15((with hail and a tornado warning alarm..)) and 8/4/15..where much of southern CT, all of RI and southeast MA were literally hammered... so Zachary..if/when you can catch my 1/3/16-SUN morning posting here..love for you to check out my own videos..and maybe put mine also on audiotape, heeeheee...

The tree above the blue house looks like a man from a horror story. Anyway, I'd be a little more indoors knowing how charged the ground is there, plus unplug all electrical equipment. Hats off to you for this video!
Even though I've listened to this one before, I still can't believe how crazy that lightning was! Fantastic thunderstorm. Maybe you might want to wear ear plugs if you get more like that in the future. I know how hard it is not to comment during these lightning strikes, too. I'll bet you told yourself that you'd keep quiet while you were recording. Hah!
I sure don't think I could have. I can't get over those two amazing lightning strikes, especially that one at around 3:00. I have a friend who lived in Connecticut, and her house was hit seven times directly by lightning. What's with the state of Connecticut that they can get such huge lightning strikes? I thought they were bigger in Florida, but now I don't know if Connecticut's lightning storms are bigger.

wow dude that was one incredible storm that came past you there. i also have a storm that came past my area in 8/8/12 thats sort of similar to this one. but didnt get alot of strikes and thunder like yours.

What an intense storm! We don't get ones like that in Jersey. You should have focused your camera to the right side of your residence. Seems like all the good bolts were in that direction.

Wow this thunderstorm must be so scary seeing the lightning bolt and then bang I'm getting more used to it and I get a bit intimidated and excited at the same time but I bet it's a scary experience and I'll be recording when I get some thunderstorms next time

i had a night storm just as mean as this last month come through my area = w = i was brave and caught it on camera but god that was some loud ass thunder glad i took the advice at the begging lol

yeah it got pretty loud at times. I'm not sure what the lightning hit as there was no smoke afterwards that i could see. it may have hit a house or a pole or something no fires near by so i cant say. Thanks for watching!

for storms like this with constant CG lightning. I've been thru a few storms like that, just bam bam bam hitting close everywhere, including power poles and knocking the power out.

Fucking gnarly shit dude, happy you didn't get hurt though. You could hear the bolts zap whatever structure for a few of them, those are my favourite; being so close to something so powerful.
we had a storm awhile ago where the lightning wasnt that bad, or so i thought. It hit the pole right by the street, sparks flew, power went out, blew a bulb in my bedroom light (it seperated from the base) with a POP! also my cable modem's power adapter died... power was out till midnight when NIPSCO replaced a burnt section of the cable to the transformer box.. it was fried!
wow so I guess it was pretty bad.

I was in Massachusetts when a strike right near my house when a person was near our house almost got struck by lightning! (August) 2015 also we had severe storms with hail people who are outside goes insane! Also thunder was sooo loud it actually shakes the house like a earth qwuake and all the other houses :/ also it caused damage to cars trees and some houses not mine but the others :/ people were outside like why? LOL why? It didn't happen in a long time since it hailed they were lucky to have cameras I had cameras but I can't put on RUclips:/ because it's to loud to even lessen to:/ even louder than this one
+Sam Lego I see you must've been talking about the severe 8/4/15-Tstorms...indeed..my place in southern RI also had some biggies that same morning......and I got all uploaded.on RUclips... 8/25/15 also had some big Tstorms..as Painfield, western MA had a big one ..I know this because my older sister audiotaped the huge thunderclaps there for me.
lining the whole left side of the apartment complex is very tall trees, i wonder when one of them is gonna be hit by lightning one day.. and possibly fall over onto the apartments..
Christopher Ryan one did happen to fall over (the house with the pickup truck) there was a huge tree in front of his house. a recent hurricane months before took it down fell into his house.

I think the most fearful parts were the ones where everything kept silent. You would have never told if it went away or not, as the positive charges kept staying right there, around the neighborhood.
Screw the dog.. I'd be hiding under the bed. I almost jumped at that big thunder at the start.
+L Hindhaugh Another heart attack near the 3 minute mark. That's the craziest thunder that I have ever heard. We are lucky to get 10% of the same loudness during a very rare UK thunderstorm. 35 this year and I've yet to see an impressive storm in the Northeast of the UK. This stuff is crazy. I'm scared just watching it.

I'm trying to understand why people stand outside in the storm? I understand if it's not bad but this is majorly close and pretty much ignorant at this point to be outside in it.

lightning hit one night during a big storm. a friends tree got hit and they were a few feet away on the porch... they said it was a VERY loud crash and a bright orange light, they thought it hit the hydrant.. nope. The tree has scars on the bark where the electricity ran though and down to the ground. Sent everyone in the house. They are VERY lucky they didnt get hit, it could have jumped and struck them very easily.
