Random tip: For getting the air out of the bags, specially with items that are frozen already and hard to get flat enough to get air out of the bag. Get a big bowl [ or fill up a clean sink full ]of cold water and submerge your bag in it up to the seal, making sure to not get water into the bag. It pushes all the air out, and you can seal it right up with almost no air at all in the bag. Hope it helps!! Loved seeing what food you came up with and am curious to check out more of your videos!

Discovered your channel over the summer and so I'd started mass making freezer meals for a "just in case I don't feel like cooking" moment. A few months later, my husband lost his job. He was out of work for three months. I'd thaw a meal at night and during the next day while i was at work, my husband would throw the meal into the slow cooker and id come home to a great meal. This really helped budget-wise as i'd already purchased and prepared the ingredients for full meals! Really a game changer! Spending my morning making a few more meals. Thank you for introducing me to this!!

Just came across your channel. I've been doing freezer meals for several years. Im now 77 years old and don't always feel like making a meal. It's just the two of us, so when I freeze meals, I divide it up into single portions. That way, if one of us wants one kind of dinner and the other wants a different kind, then it is a win-win. Literally go to freezer turn ctock pot or oven low, go to work, remove, feed 4 ankle biters, go to brownies, guides, scouts, swimming, soccer ect, .... Though we don't all have "helpers" in the kitchen, we also don't have to video record a presentable show for anyone either. I would guestimate about half of your time is taken away by Video planning, arranging and shooting. Thank you both so much for the tremendous effort on both of your parts! I'm so glad I found you. In fact, I didn't know that others did the same thing as me with food in the freezer. My friends think I'm silly but I call it Kon-Mari freezing. My zipper freezer bags stand flat vertically like books in 2 layers. The bags with labels on are put in randomly but numbered from 1 upwards with a pen, so that you know where to look for number 29 in the rows.
I print an extra set of labels kept in a binder, with the same numbers. When I plan the week's food every Sunday, I start with the binder. I can easily see what is left, find the food in the remote freezer and move it to the daily freezer, remove the label from the binder and put it on a weekly schedule on paper so that everyone can see what is on the menu every day.
Then it's super easy to make a shopping list with the fresh things I need this week. PS: I also put a time stamp on each label, because sometimes I refill the freezer with smaller quantities. Then it is easier to use the oldest first. It works for me. And yes, I actually have a fixed day at the end of each week called Leftovers, because there is usually plenty. It's always a fun day with a buffet of smaller amounts of food mixed together.
Respect for doing such a great job to make cooking easier for others.

Your freezer is awesome. I wish I had one just like that. My son and his wife had been looking to buy a house since last fall. My son makes good money but he wanted a large house on an acreage just out of town close to Sherwood Park. Over the long period of time they looked at over 300 house listing online and went to see about 25 of those homes. He finally found one that met and exceeded their requirements. Fortunately he checked out several lending institutions for the best mortgage rate he could get and was able to lock in a very low interest rate before interest rates went way up. The beautiful place he got turns out to be about 10 minutes to town and shopping centers (and our house) that would be at least 20-30 minutes closer to his work, an extra bonus. The house they bought wouldn't be available until the middle of July. In the meantime he's been working a lot of late overtime hours, he says to renovate some things they want to change on the house. When we we found out that our son has not been eating properly and just missing meals because hes to tire to think of something to make and hehas been working 14 hour days plus 1 hr long drive time home and another 45 minutes in the morning, with only 2 days off every 3rd week, the fact he wasn't eating properly really bothered us both. He often just grabbed something from drive-thru and sometimes doesn't even eat because they both are too busy to get groceries. He gets home and if there's something easy to heat and eat, he'll eat otherwise just and go right to bed. When we heard this we were appalled and decided to try and super-sized some of his favorite dishes. I ended up using my on the counter huge plug in turkey roaster and cooked up things like chili, beef stew, sweet and sour ribs. We are on old age pensions so meat is becoming difficult to buy, so we made a deal that I'd buy what we needed, prep (takes forever) and cook up a huge roaster full making him up a lot of meals. The 1st time I cooked up about approximately 30 servings, I divided it up using all our freezer containers. A lot were healthy sized single serve so either of them could take it to work but some were double sized meals for 2. We encountered 4 big problems. The 1st was trying to make room in our freezer for all the containers, 2nd once later spring rolls around we no longer can just leave fridge stuff just set on top of our freezer in the attached garage, an easy step out of the house door and the freezer is just next to the steps down, so perfect height for setting thing on. Our garage is insulated but not heated so stays about fridge temperature for a large portion in fall/winter/spring. Its perfect for an additional fridge if theres a reasonable temperatures out but once it gets to below about -20 it starts to turn into a freezer. It then means I no longer have that extra "fridge" space for large items and things. The 3rd problem encountered was we used up all our freezer containers so was stuck until I decided to use zip lock bags. They take up a lot less room that way. And the last problem is, we often finish cooking such large amounts late in the evening and too tired to portion it out, and with no extra "fridge" to put the huge roasting pan, I wasn't happy think I'd have to stay up a couple hours after midnight packaging. I solved by turning the roaster pan as low as it would go, about 160 to 180 but the chunks of meat turned out a little weird kind of with a falling apart. The deal is our son pays for the ingredients and we get some good meals using a lot of meat, he gets meals we know he used to love when he was growing up and missing.

@@FreezerMeals101- freeze drying is different from dehydrating. Freeze drying REMOVES all the moisture and makes food shelf stable. Dehydrating actually cook it a bit (think jerky and floppy mango slices). Check out Acre Homestead - she has a freeze drying playlist! 😊. Oh! AND I’m a new subscriber!

I just found your channel! Now that I have a decent freezer (just bought a brand new fridge on Sunday!) I'm so excited to get meals in the freezer. I'm retired so I have time to cook everyday but let's get real who really wants to? Lol my hubs still works. His schedule is 2pm to 10pm sometimes even as late as midnight. So the last thing I want to do is cook full meals every morning. I'll probably cook once a week instead of like 3 months or so at a time but it will still be such a game changer! Congrats to your daughter Christie! An award is an award!! Feel better Sharla! Yes - done is better than perfect. I sometimes I have to space out what I'm doing over a couple days - usually anything that needs precooked (meats, rice, pasta, etc) gets done one day and the easy dump and freeze get done the other day.
When I have too much spinach, I just freeze it on it's own and use in smoothies.
The sliders are a standard menu item in our house. I was making them almost weekly. Last month was the first time I made them ahead for the freezer though. We love the ham and cheese the most. We actually have Chicken Cordon Bleu for tomorrow night - just a layer of ham and then chicken lunch meat with swiss. I love how you can change up the flavor by what you put on top too. I always do butter but change up what seasonings we use on top. We did a BBQ chicken and Buffalo Chicken also. I'm the only buffalo fan, so I did 6 of the buns with BBQ and 6 with Buffalo.

One thing I do to ease the prep for me is when I get a sale on say ground beef…I pre cook most of it and put it in the freezer in ziplocks until I do my meals, I do this with chicken also. I will slice some, dice some and thin cut some. I freeze the chicken breast individually and then put in vacuumed sealed bags. It makes it easier for me to do a litter at a time as I don’t have a freezer meal friend and it’s just me marketing them

We do our meat separately as well. I cook it up and divide it up into bags. We get budget boxes of fruit and vegetables rejects so when we get those we look what we have and go from there, and do all the other ingredients in a separate bag from the meat. That way we can buy the veggies in bulk when we can and the meat in bulk when it's on sale. I also have chronic pain so it's better for me to do things in stages.

Does your freezer meal club have a way to find recipes that DONT have certain ingredients for like, allergies? I like a lot of your recipes but so many have common ingredients I just can’t have and it’s time consuming looking at ingredients individually to make sure it’s okay for me to have. Even in stores it take so long for me to shop because of that. Great videos by the way. Long time follower; really helped me change the way I eat. Changed my life once I realized my health problems disappear when I started cooking all my food and freezing it. Then pre-prepping frequently used ingredients like garlic, onion, peppers, chicken stock, etc. to save time for meals I do cook right then.

I just haven’t had the freezer space to do it now. I just have the top of the fridge freezer, and it’s always got stuff in it I just don’t have room. And I’d rather have a buddy to do it with, when I did it previously some of my siblings came to help me, if I did it now it’d be a solo mission, and I have a lot more back pain and so forth now lol.

Yes Todoist helps me keep my chaos organized. It is still chaos though. I know what we have, but finding it is a different story. Mine stacks are not as pretty as yours. My husband often stacks them in the garage freezer for me and they freeze in weird shapes. Also we have not got a plan to organize what is where. But I am better at spotting a meal than my husband. I told him to get Baked Italian chicken one day. He said we don't have a meal named that. I went out and brought it in the house 2 minutes later. 🤣 It does help being the person who prepped the meal and I know what color I'm looking for.

I have a dehydrator and I dehydrate mixed vegetables and grind them into a powder. 1 Tablespoon equals 1 cup, sneaky way to add them vegetables.

Excited to make some new meals. We’re down to 3 meals and need to get to it. Going to the farmers market tomorrow to pick up some fresh produce. We have all the meat. I feel for you Sharla. I have tears in both rotator cuffs but not bad enough for them to do surgery yet. Sleep is hard. Made it to the end with you girls and I am impressed.

The best part about freezer meals IMO is that it doesn't feel like cooking every night when you can batch them up like this. It really takes the pressure off.

I'm really lucky my sweetie and I split the cooking and he does the grocery shopping I come up with the list. But I definitely definitely want to start more prepping and have freezer meals available cuz we're getting up there in years and cooking a four-course dinner is not on the top of my list at this point LOL

I absolutely love your videos, I have learned so many new recipes, thanks so much!! I do have a question, and I know it's a strange one, but I noticed your cabinet handles are all centered on your cabinet doors. I had never seen anything like this until I saw a video from RoseRed Homestead this week and then saw your videos! I've never seen this done! Does it make it harder to open your cabinets? What an odd design!

Do you ever talk about the price? It’s interesting to me if you had a loose number. I know cooking in bulk makes things a little more affordable. And planning the meals with a friend would make it a little less as well (I imagine).
Great video! Lots of helpful tips!

We don't really talk about cost. It's hard to be accurate because we don't always buy it at the time of our mega session. If there is a caselot sale that happens to fall on 15% off day at the grocery store, we stock up, but that might be a month or two before we use them. Also, we have a lot of things at Sharla's house already. Spices and condiments last a long time, so we just use what's in the house and we don't always have to buy them. Plus we don't show you the times when we are missing something or run out of something and I have to run home and get it or we have someone run to the grocery store for us. And the third thing is we're often buying "other" things while we're at the store. Good sale on pajamas at costco? In the cart they go! lol. Lastly, because we're Canadian and most of our viewers are American, the prices won't mean much. They would be aghast at the cost because we simply pay more here.
I will tell you though, over the years, we have done spot checks and our grocery bills have been pretty even between the two of us. Thanks for watching!

@@FreezerMeals101 thanks for explaining your process. Part of the confusion is the Canadian dollar is worth less than the U.S. dollar, so it seems like things cost a lot more than they really do. For instance, currently $100 Canadian is about $75 USD, so if you say something was $200, it was actually equivalent to $150 USD, but it gives the impression that you spent a lot more than you did. It would be a pain to explain the difference all the time.

I have also suffered with frozen shoulders from roatator cuff injuries. The only thing that gave me any releif was a tens machine I got off Amazon for around £20 UK pounds. Mine had a timer which would only give me an hour at a time before having to restart it. I'm not sure if they all do that? But even 1 hour at a time let me nod off at least for a little while. Well worth the money, especially as it's an injury that can take several years to recover from, even once it's out of that excrutaitingly painful freezing stage. Excercise and physio help massively once its out of the freezing stage. Lots fo videos on RUclips if you do a search, and it's free!

To store it in the fridge I would recommend putting the label of what food it is on the side that is showing when you open the fridge. in their case its the side and not the top. Its better to put the label there so that when you want to have some food you can just read out what is in the bags

    • @FreezerMeals101
      @FreezerMeals101  8 месяцев назад

Some people definitely do this. It doesn't film as nicely when we put the label there, so we're ok with it in the middle. But that's a great tip!
