    Track Description...
"The New York and Long Branch Division was one of the last places where steam was employed in passenger service by the Pennsy. Here at Sea Girt, NJ, the K4 starts Train No. 714, consisting of 1 combine and 6 coaches, and quickly gathers speed amid the echoes of the bouncing from passing buildings close to the tracks. The whistle is then used to make two grade crossing signals - the sound and tone so typical of this class of locomotive, at one time used over the main lines of the entire Pennsy system. The safety valve pops off soon after the engineer closes his throttle preporatory tot he station stop at Spring Lake, New Jersey."

Born in'49, just missed the end of steam. My father was into airplanes. Funny thing about the k4s, the more you look at them, the more you like them.

Is it weird to miss a period that I was not even alive in? Because that's the way I feel about steam sometimes, because it was so awe inspiring.

Back when the phrase 'five hours late' had no place in railroading.

Neither did "5 minutes." At one time the PRR would refund a buck for each minute the "Broadway Limited" arrived late! THAT was how serious Railroads were about being on-time.

@Robofish12 - I honestly believe that I was supposed to have been born in 1926 but somebody fell asleep at the controls for 60 years so I know exactly how you feel.

An era of love gone forever. So glad I was a little guy, when the beauties were King of the rail.

Very enjoyable, and a nice parade of many engine models that I've never seen before, and that you would hardly ever get to see here on the 'tube. Many thanks!

Also born in '49. But I grew up outside of Asbury Park NJ and I do remember PRR K-4s and CNJ steam on the NY&LB, along with dozens of old Black Men who cranked down the gates in Asbury as trains passed through the numerous grade crossings. Much has changed (for the better) since the early 1950's.

Charles Bacon I don't think much has changed for the better. Society was much better back then.

There is a show about the NY&LB that you can find on Channel 231 or rent the documentary: Trains and Locomotives.
