Some of your absolute BEST one liners. Iconic.

I wish I could say that was intentional, but I am just inspired by the material!

“The Big Four” were not the best this month but at least there were other beautiful covers to enjoy!

The ultimate compliment, thank you! Especially within the fashion industry, there is so much sycophantic behavior, no one wants to say anything critical about anyone famous. A lot of the visual rot is a result of this practice and I am not going to participate in that :)

    Hi, Marco,
I agree with you about the Vogue Portugal cover, but Mario Kroes got a bit lucky by having that garment assigned to him, too. Once he had it, though, he knew what to do. This month's battle makes a lot of comparisons to the '80's. The Kroes cover combines a '50's - '60's graphic, formal silhouette and the tonal softness of a Ritts-style '90's. I went back and forth on the Vogue Japan suggestion, but ended up on the original, more saturated version. It's a spring cover and the blue version desaturates a bit too much, but I do agree that the mint green struggles with contrast a bit. I prefer the harder/sharper look to the Vogue Mexico covers. We can allude to the look of the '80's while also acknowledging the image improvements brought by digital cameras; too backwards-looking to make a perfect replica, no? I couldn't agree more on your point about Sims' cover looking as good in color as black and white. It's what makes a good color photograph arguably more impressive than a B&W. Some of these covers look like they're going back to the '40's, especially that d cover with the four models.
Your relative admiration for the Taylor-Johnson cover surprised me. It follows through on what you didn't like with Martin, but seems pretty flat otherwise. Maybe it makes more sense in context inside the magazine?

Hi David, thanks for all the responses! RELATIVE admiration for the Aaron Taylor-Johnson cover is a good way to put it. Its not incredible photography, but I appreciate the commitment to the concept of the shoot. May is going to be a giant video, be prepared.

I do feature them sometimes, but a lot of the covers are average so I don't talk about them. I can't go over every magazine so I try to focus on the ones where I have a stronger reaction to them. Stay tuned for next month!

@@THEMODELGENE Ha, exactly. Some type of expansive luscious set with composited smaller groupings on a double truck could be a fun challenge - but this all-in, grade-school class photo style is so anxiety inducing. :)

I enjoy your channel, but I’d be careful critiquing. Other artists. Artist subjective it’s not a race that someone can win what may be unremarkable. Today will be fantastic in the future. a man once said to Mozart “Mozart, I think you play too many notes “

Hi Bobby, thanks for your comment, but these critiques are made to help other photographers watching the videos look more analytically at their own work rather than be the final word on artistic merit. In the fashion industry, there is so much sycophantic behavior, everyone is pretending to love everything because they want to be able to use people for access, but I'm not interested in doing that here. Whether it is my favorite photographer or someone whose aesthetic I don't care for, I try to judge the images fairly.
