The Chinese album is called “上海/香港” which is pronounced shànghǎi/xiānggǎng and just means "Shanghai/Hong Kong". The artist is 沙漠鱿鱼(shāmòu yóyú, which translates to "Desert Squid")
As someone who is also of a similar age (I'm 22), who likes hardcore, death metal, grind and pv, as well as having a solo noise project (its called NEEDLEPACK for those interested) this video speaks to me
Love ur taste and also love that ur not afraid to show that you also like more mainstream stuff like MIW which shows ur really openminded. Which is a rare commodity in the metal community these days. Also, love the way you edit! Keep up the good work.
I haven't heard like 90% of this, excited to hear every single album! Edit: coming back to say that Elaine Elaine record is incredibly unique, horribly produced, and is quintessential earrape. What a cool listen! Listened to that Salesman record, very good! A great entry into my list of hardcore. Sewerslvt has made a really intriguing and captivating album that's helped me understand the appeal of breakcore
If you're getting into Dark Ambiance, you should check out "Hexerei Im Zwielicht Der Finsternis" by Aghast as well as "Sacrosanct Bleed" by In Slaughter Natives and the Canadian Dark ambient project called Darkblood, all very cold and haunting in their own ways.
Every couple months i found myself re watching this video (usually when I feel like shit). and over all I've just gone through a really rough breakup so I've been rewatching a lot of your videos and just wanted to say thank you dude, your sick. also please please make a part 2 to this video
I'm goin on a long and exhausting trip next week, and you just helped me with an amazing playlist to get me through it! Also, you look sooo excited when talking about music you love and it's absolutely adorable lol
you've had at least one girlfriend, been to more than one concert, have your drivers license and a college degree (idk bout that last one) which is definitely more than i'll ever achieve; i mean, i'm 25 and still live in the same room in the same apartment since i was 9
I always enjoy how you’ve shared your tastes in music, not only that but how you’ve brought more light onto some underground acts as well as nearly forgotten works by mainstream artists. Since finding you on TikTok nearly a year ago, I’ve discovered a plethora of different and unique artists thanks to your help. I recently went and saw a few live shows and wanted to get your opinions of a few bands. SPY (or SPY WORLDWIDE from California), GEL from New Jersey, and MS PAINT (which had this interesting take on the electronic/hardcore sound, hearing them live was interesting). Keep posting amazing stuff like this and reaching more people who haven’t heard of these bands because most of these albums definitely slam
My recs for you that didn't make the list: Street Sects - End Position: You might know them from a split they did with portrayl of guilt, as the vocalist of street sects and the vocalist of portrayl of guilt are roommates. Grindy industrial, the vocalist writes about his experiences being homeless on a years long heroin bender, and dealing with suicide. Very raw, very real, nothing else really sounds like it. Trace Amount : Project from the old vocalist of old wounds, sparse, heavy death industrial. Federal Prisoner records.
OH MY GOD I LOVE STREET SECTS. When i first heard them on HEALTH's DISCO4 album i instantly loved the screamy vocals and when i looked them up I happened upon 'If Life Is A Gift It's In Very Poor Taste' and was instantly a fan. Right now I think my favourite release by them is The Kicking Mule, love the storytelling on that album
Being from Long Island, it makes me happy to see people from the other side of the country recommending Blame God! I've seen that band probably more times than any other band! The first time I saw them was with Nails, Toxic Holocaust and Gatecreeper in Brooklyn and you know a show is gonna be fucking sick when the crowd is already kicking the shit outta each other during the local support! I got a cassette copy of Strategically Confined at that show and it's still one of my all time favorites! The second time I saw them was with Negative Approach and Two Man Advantage 5 minutes away from my home and I actually met them there. They took me to shows in Upstate New York before, they're just amazing people! Some of the first people in the local scene that actually welcomed me and showed me kindness! I have like 3 CD copies of Power and Control for no reason (RIP Trevor Strnad) and that new split they did with World Peace really puts the violence in powerviolence! My love for this band is endless!
also major props for the Bodybox recognition. They do a sick cover of Big Truck by Coal Chamber and I want them to make a shirt of the cover of the single for that because it's a way cooler looking remake of the first Coal Chamber album.
i’ve been clowned on so much for my love for motionless in white and i fist bumped so triumphantly for all the miw appreciation in this video. Coming from the future, STEOTW was awesome.
just found ur channel, super good stuff dude! did not know that youth code was playing w mcr, thats amazing honestly . devil master has been playing w them too , so shout out to mcr for putting ppl on to great underground shit! i really like the stuff toxic state records from ny has been putting out , especially dollhouse.
I love finding a label that's super dope and just going crazy over like most of their releases. I recently found halcyon, and they release some dope future riddim type stuff. also omg I didn't know voyd2 came out ty for letting me know!
I love finding people who also enjoy the real filthy, unhinged metal. There's a lot of great recommendations here. Dragged Into Sunlight - Hatred For Mankind is one I'd add. It's a must listen for anyone into extreme music. I found that album because of Wyattxhim (great channel) and I agree with him so hard when he says it's the most pummelling death metal album of all time.
Dude I love Clown Core! I remember listening to Van after seeing the Fantano review, the music is so funny to me because it's ridiculous but actually so good
Old Wounds are one of my favorite bands! (I also think Underneath by Code Orange is a modern masterpiece, even if they've changed so much...I feel like they're at peak creativity right now. I know everyone's mileage may vary on that.)
I'm not even halfway through this exhaustive and impressive list but I just had to say how much I love and appreciate it. It's been about 5 years since I've steered away from hardcore/grind, towards more synthy stuff eg. synthwave, dark ambient, dungeon etc but I've got those same feels as when I discovered Napalm Death in the late 80's. My mind is blown (even though I'll never have the time to find all this stuff haha)! SUBSCRIBED!!!
I saw Sympathy Pain for the first time when they were opening for Midwife and holy shit the sound alone just blew me away. Just the bass and guitar tones were enough to make me fall in love with them
Sooooooo many god tier bands/records mentioned in this vid! My band got a quick 1 second of fame from being on Nerve Altar and in the bandcamp screenshot you used haha
Dude you hit all of the good ones. Code Orange Kids was basically the end of artsy metalcore. They were like 19 when they wrote it and it sounds like every band in the genre thrown in a blender and then discarded. The split with FoH too. Oh man. Great channel, subbed!!!
21:04 omfg I can’t believe I didn’t know about punch sooner they’re literally so fucking amazing can’t thank you enough for bringing them to my attention!!! Btw you have the best music taste
I'm pretty fortunate that I found code orange when they released underneath. I love all of it didn't get a chance to be disappointed by a change of sound.
DUDE SVDDEN DEATH IS SO SICK and Voyd 2 was an amazing record. are you a fan of breakcore or any ambient jungle or drum n bass? i think you’d enjoy some artists like Nfract, bye2, Glitchtrode or even some japanese speedcore like Kobaryo and t+pazolite !!
a while ago Loathe was opening for Code Orange. at the time I really only listened to Loathe, and so I left after their set cause I had an exam the next day I had to study for. I’m still kicking myself for not spending just one less hour studying so that I could see Code Orange live. goddamn.
Dude YES! +1 on many of these that i've heard of (thanks for putting me on to everything else!) but +1000 for hybrid theory, that album goes harder than it should and after all these years it is just as good as it was as a kid!
I don't know if Sadness is very well known or not but it's some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard. First song I heard from them is 'blue' from the EP 'motionless, watching you' and it is still the most beautiful piece of music I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. The guy behind it also works on Trha which is such a crazy multilayered project reliant on MULTIPLE LANGUAGES THE MUSICIAN MADE UP. As someone who's really interested in language that was really really cool. Also I sometimes enjoy Abstract Void's album Wishdream, it's a good mix of shoegaze and synthwave. Though I dont think i really like anything else they made lol And on a completely different note, Rabbit Junk's music is *the* autism anthem for me. Which is unsurprising cos they made a song literally called Neurodivergent. I love everything i've heard from them. Edit: also I've so far only listened to Sugar Wounds but that went extremely hard. I'm gonna go through a lot of music right now lol
ayyy that album you don't know the title of (i saw Pad Chennington cover it and then i fell asleep to it once) is Shanghai/Hong Kong by Desert Squid! impeccable vibes immediately
Awesome to see Fluoride on here. I became friends with them before they started the band and was roomates with two of them along with playing shows together. I haven’t listened to them in a long time, I used to think those [as] shorts were hilarious
I love clown core .
Clown core is unironically really fucking good.
mine too, and it isn't one bit ironic

That Elaine Elaine album is truly…something
You got me into dark ambient.
YOOO I'm honored, it's so sick!

@@jamesbok8385very good call on AGHAST. Legendary UG Dark Ambient. I would recommend KAMMERHEIT & DESIDERII MARGINIS.

Agreed about Extortion, pretty much instant “this is focking sick” when I heard Sick for the first time. Hybrid Theory is all time.
That portrayal of guilt recommendation was on point. Can't stop listening to "it's already over".
also major props for the Bodybox recognition. They do a sick cover of Big Truck by Coal Chamber and I want them to make a shirt of the cover of the single for that because it's a way cooler looking remake of the first Coal Chamber album.
the main guy behind clown core is louis cole, everything he touches is gold

Frail Hands S/T is a 10/10 record and my jaw dropped when you mentioned it. I'm so glad someone gets it!
One of my favorite EPs of all time is " enthralled by mutilation" by gutteral disgorge, I LOVE THEM SO MUCH
Great recommendations especially the Elaine Elaine EP. Awesome list
thank you tyler, because of you i found out about portrayal of guilt, thank you sm
If you love the SH2 soundtrack you're gonna love Nine Inch Nails

Slowed and Reverb is just gentrified Chopped and Screwed
love mouthbreather i got so stoked when you mentioned them, underrated af
I agree with your opinions on hybrid theory, I genuinely thought I was the only one. Cure For The Itch is one of my favorite songs off of that album.
Here to show my appreciation for the Mouthbreather love. I don't think I've heard a single track from them I didn't immediately like on Spotify.
Along the same lines of Clown Core, Curta'n Wall's Siege Ubsessed is insanely good

Black metal fans have never had a problem with folk influences/integrations.
cheers for dropping that list in the description. assa king move right there
well you officially got me into Viscera Infest, you were not joking when you called these guys fast oh my lord, thank you
So many dope recommendations lol, have you ever heard of the band warstories, they opened for mouthbreather on their last tour
Thanks to this video I found out about sugar wounds and I will be grateful for the rest of my live for that
it makes me really happy that tyler likes mcr, because i get *really* tired of punk/metal fans acting like they're above my favorite band.
I’ve probably watched this video 10 times since it came out. Great vid bucko
fuck yeahhhh fluids and pharmacist are fuckin amazing!!!
Hah! I just found that Mr. Kitty song a month ago! If you're feeling that, check out Lorn-Ask The Dusk album. Very dark, very hard to describe.
that frail hands s/t is impressive

YEESSS, Im such a fucking Full of Hell fanboy haha, everything this band does is gold!
bruh I didnt even know anyone else knew flouride, been a minute need to revisit them
