  • In the realm of horror, the idea of comedians crafting a slasher film may seem cringe-worthy, but it reflects a shift from the serious tone of iconic horror directors like Carpenter and Craven. The genre, once dominated by figures like Michael and Freddy, evolved in the new millennium, embracing humor. In 2004, Broken Lizard, known for Super Troopers, ventured into horror with "Club Dread," exploring whether it stands among great slashers. Director Jay Chandrasekhar's film is scrutinized to determine if Club Dread deserves a spot as one of the Best Horror Movies You Never Saw!

Club Dread is one of my favorite horror comedies of all time. The Broken Lizard team knocked it out of the park. Bill Paxton is amazeballs.

So many one liners. I have a Coconut Pete vinyl I wish could be autographed. There is another version of this movie that has a couple of detectives that visit the island. The original cut is way better.

@@MrBuketman I gotta agree about theatrical cut is a bit better, especially leaving out the stuff with the real police. Not the f**king fun police. Lmao

That's how I feel about Vampire in Brooklyn. People expected a comedy because it's Eddie Murphy. But it's a horror movie that happens to star Eddie and has some jokes added. Super underrated. And I think Eddie was doing his thing to make horror a little more diverse.

Not sure if you just missed it, but this is the 3rd film by Broken Lizard and directed by Jay. They started with the indie film Puddle Cruiser back in 1996, which honestly feels like a Kevin Smith movie. Not there best bust still a decent little flick. Then came Super Troopers in 2001, with Club Dread following that in 2004. The More You Know✨🌟

I've seen this..man.. I don't know how many times and it is just fucking hilarious every time. The first time I saw it was the R rated version. My advice definitely seek out the unrated version. More blood, more gags, more off-color jokes/one liners. IMHO, this is a classic horror/slasher comedy. Luckily, I own the unrated version on DVD. Might have to search out the Blu ray.
