TBH: Is that a 'trick question' ??? We only got to see ONE 'Pie & Mash', the other being a 'Pie & (chunky, wedgie, unskinned, type) Chips' - DUH! Anyway, I must say that I prefered the ONE with the 'chips' - So the oldest pub wins - BUT they could 'up their image' by offering 'MUSHY PEAS with a hint of mint' - Just saying. 😃

I don't eat Beef,Lamb or Pork, but a Chicken or Fish version of the first wld be great..The seond Pie looked a bit french style&over elaborate but did appear to have really good quality about it! But over all both were well cooked& presented! So i think the first one had the right idea, with it's more traditional approach!.

I preferred the first one, you seemed to get a lot more and it was well presented and also looked lovely. I didn't like how the second one was presented, if you'd separated it there wasn't as much as the first one. I did like the pastry on the second one

That's not the type of Pie & Mash with parsley liquor that you can get in London and the working classes lived on in decades past (the restaurants also sold jellied eels) that I was expecting. 😅 Both venues looked interesting with the 300 y.o. pub having classic ceramic tiles that once every high class pub had. It looks in splendid condition. But I have to agree, the Botanist had real pie and mash with a modern twist, and served it up beautifully. You know how to live! 😎

Nice change of review. Both looked nice, I'm sure the old place would have given mash instead of chips for a proper comparison. 8:40 The new place stated it was champ mash on the menu, so this has spring onions incorporated. Newer pub also seemed a better ambience and character somehow.

Prefer to have trio of mashed swede/parsnip/carrot and creamed with butter or single cream and milk [or why not a little of the three!], mashed potato and garden peas with the pie. I preferred the first pie.👌👌. I'm sure if asked they would have had mash. Also as it came in the dish, you knew it was home cooked. The amount of beef steak was huge and the added veg was a nice touch. The second pie didn't appeal to me at all. Yes it came with mushy peas and mash, but as someone commented, it was more champ than mash. And to be honest the pie itself did look as may have been store bought. In my younger days I ran pubs all over and I would never serve anything that I personally didn't cook from scratch. My menu usually changed every two days and wasn't very large in content. My way of looking at menus is this. If you go into a pub or a take-away and they have a menu as long as your arm, you are very liable to get a microwave meal because it's too costly to hold a lot of fresh products. That's OK if that is what you expect and we paying £5.50 or so. But if you are paying £18.00 or more? I would want my customers to know they are getting quality food.

With 1080p selected, this video plays like it is 480p. Because RUclips want me to pay for 1080p PREMIUM? I'm currently voting down providers where this is the case, because the creators need to push back against this.
