He ain't lying. Track fans and casual fans only glaze at the 100m dash. They did a whole big intro with lights and everything at the Olympics for the finals. They should have done the same thing for the 200m and 400m finals. The 100m is "considered" the fastest man or woman alive race. No other race gets attention like this. Noah's personality whether you like or hate it is what got him attention in the first place while winning. It was until he started winning in the 100m race that his fame took off like a rocket. You can say the same for Bolt. The man ran solid 400m races but it wasn't until he dropped down to the 100m and 200m races (along with breaking records in 2008) that we soared on a global scale.
Just treat all the races the same and people might start to respect all the races as equal.

Plus he was answering a very specific question about which he'd rather get a gold medal for in 2025 : 100m v 200m. The 100 is the premier event, hence the moniker, "World's fastest man or woman" is for running that distance. I don't think it's only because the 100 is so fast, because many love the hurdles (100, 110, 400) and the 400 m flat also. It's just the 200 is a sort of in-between distance. While he is right that the 200m doesn't get the same attention and I agree that 100m gold seems more valuable for him at this point in his career, his comments just sound bitter here. A year ago he was saying the 200m is his "wife", and he has no competition in the event. Now, only after losing in the Olympics, his opinion on the 200m has magically changed. "Nobody really cares about the 200m anyways" just feels like he's coping for his loss. Additionally, his comment regarding losing the athlete of the year to Mondo also just seems to be in bad taste. "I broke the American record, and they still didn't give me the award"... Noah broke the American record by 0.01 seconds, and Mondo broke the WORLD record three times. Noah both seems to be discrediting Mondo, and generally just sounds unduly salty for losing an award that was never his to begin with.

I've only watched the first 1.34 minutes. This is why people take issues with Noah. He has always said he preferes the 200m and it's his baby. Now that he lost the 200m, he is saying he would take the 100m over the 200m.
I'm an avid track guy and the 200m is my favorite event.
What Noah said about Bolt in 2017 running the 100m shows that he needs to be more informed as an athlete. Bolt only ran the 100m in 2017 because it's much easier to train for and his season was condensed. He literally cruised that season and had decided he would only run one event because of the ease of training for the 100 vs the 200. Running the 200 would require him to do 400m training which he dint want to do.
Like i said, i haven't finish the video but we have to be careful of putting out these ideas about nobody cares about a particular event. If people look at track experts, athletes and abalysts, and they are saying an event is not releveant, then that event becomes deminished in the eyes of casual fans. There is already narrative out there now regarding field events.
One reason i always respected Bolt is that he consistently said his favorite event and the one he cares the most about is the 200m. It wasn't about the hype, he stayed true to himself.

@@TheWayWithKhuwayne I would put Ingebrigsten and Mondo over Tebogo in terms of who deserves WAOTY, but putting Holloway above him is debateable, although not necessarily wrong. The issue for any athletes who only specialise in one event (e.g. Mondo - or maybe not, since he's a decent 100m runner too! - and Holloway) is that they have less opportunities to win medals and break records. For example, Holloway won indoors and broke the WIR, as well as the Olympics, yet many would still favour someone like Tebogo over him simply because Tebogo runs (and runs well) in multiple events including the 100, 200, 300 and 400m (and 4x400m) - although only the 100, 200 and 4x400m at the Olympics. This also applies to Ingebrigsten who is at an advantage in that he runs well in the 1500, mile, 2 mile 3000 and 5000m (although only the 1500m and 5000m at the Olympics - obviously) meaning he has more opportunities to win medals and break records (e.g. his 7.17 3000m) than someone like Duplantis who, despite being probably the most dominant athlete in his respective event in comparison to others, 'only' has 1 medal from the Olympicsand will only ever have one medal per Olympics. If you're going off of dominance and records for WAOTY, then you have to go Mondo, but if you're going off of dominance, records AND medals, then maybe you'd go Tebogo. At the end of the day, WAOTY is fully subjective and since it's a fan vote, it's largely a popularity contest. I voted Tebogo over the others because of personal bias, and that will have had a large role in who wins it for both men and women.

Very interesting video once again. The billing of the 100m has predominantly be the driving force of the track and field sport. Meaning more money, more attention, more recognition, more catering for the 100m best aka the World's fastest woman/man.
So Noah isn't wrong, as you stated in the video at one point, the Diamond League considered removing the 200m from their timetable in 2019. Plus the Olympics has been one of few occasions where the 100m is one of the most anticipated events across all the Olympic sports which why Usain Bolt, Carl Lewis, Linford Christie, Jesse Owens and many others have had a certain reputation following their Olympic Gold victory in the 100m. He might be downplaying the event but I don't think he's been disrespectful. Rather I believe he's being honest of the reality of success & recognition you get as a 100m sprinter vs a 200m sprinter when it's all set and done.
Look at Grant Holloway for example, he's acknowledged many times how he isn't getting as much attention or recognition as a 110m Hurdler despite his accolades year in and year out. Even his inclusion in the 4x100m relays for Team USA have been shut out. So certain events aren't going to be pushed or highlighted in the same way as the 100m. That is the reality of the sport. And even now field events are becoming more and more excluded with these new projects and competitions coming up including Grand Slam Track and World Ultimate Championships. Meanwhile many of the track events including the 100m, remain untouched and are heavily promoted to fit this bill that athletics has promoted for decades and decades.
With Noah's comment in regards to athlete of the year/Mondo, Noah is going to promote Noah and push to get all the accolades and achievements he can before he retires. Breaking a 25+ year old National Record (which was also a former world record) alongside winning your 2nd World Championships is commendable. But of course breaking WRs is another level all together. So whilst his comment is naive, it's just another example of athletes pushing to get their name out there at any opportunity in a sport that tends to sabotage itself at times in various ways.
Whilst I understand and agree with many of your comments including the downplaying of the 200m, I also believe that some people in the community have made unwarranted comments about Noah and trying to shut down virtually any opinion he has because of how outspoken and raw he is in his personality and presentation compared to other track athletes in the sport.

One thing to mention that I commented under a different video/post on this topic, is that Lyles using the example of him losing World Athlete Of The Year to Duplantis in 2022 as a reason for why people don't care about the 200m also isn't valid for other reasons than you mentioned. This year he's the Olympic *100m* Champion, and Tebogo - the Olympic *200m* Champion - won World Athlete Of The Year ahead of Lyles and others. Obviously people will pay more attention to an Olympic 200m Gold than to a World Championship Gold, but it goes to show that you can win the 100m Olympic Gold and still not even be voted as Male Track Athlete Of The Year, let alone World Athlete Of The Year!
