A DIAMOND Player Takes Over FROM SCARLETT's Win

- Today I got challenged by one of my viewers to take over replays from a lost position and he would try and beat me.
Harstem vs Lambo is a game I lost 1 minute after the take over.
Neeb vs solar is 1 second before neeb gg's out and scarlett vs astrea well...
Is the most over game i've seen in my entire life...

This is brilliant concept !!! Would love more of these
Would love it if how this went originally was showed first? @hamster !!
I think its also a amazing way of training (when playing against people of your own level or just slightly above). Since it shows some really specific but amazing concepts.
Ya really nice, we want more !
Harstem is trying to prove the normies in chat wrong when they say while watching a pro game ''Even I can win with this advantage''
Did you unironically said the word normies in 2022 💀💀💀

This has the potential to be a whole series, reversing lost games from the brink of disaster. Excellent concept and presentation, Captain.
I am the Zerg from these games. I wasn't going to comment, but a lot of you are making some really good points that I feel like I should address.
"Why didn't you just A-Move when you had a 100 supply lead?",
"Why did you walk roaches back and forth in storms for 30 seconds?",
"Why did it take you like 30 minutes to morph a lurker?"
"Why didn't it look like you were doing anything?"
These are all great points.
Let me take this moment to point out that just like real diamonds, every diamond player in StarCraft 2 is unique. We all have a different skillset. I know some of my 3.9k NA brothers would have had the skills to beat Harstem here. Some diamonds are great at macro, some diamonds have impeccable micro, and some diamonds have sharp game sense. Some of us have acute killer instincts, some of us are masters of theory.
I am not any of these types of diamond player. I am the type of diamond player who is good at killing observers with ravager biles. It just wasn't enough to snag the win this time.
Anyway, I was laughing like an idiot in all of these games. This was some of the most fun I've ever had playing starcraft. Thanks for the games captain.
snatching defeat from the jaws of victory....kudos for having a crack though. harstem is a very solid player, you need to lose & make mistakes like this in order to identify weaknesses & improve. the points above & the commentary in the game will help with that. nobody wants to watch a boring f2 move victory from mid way through a game
@@cmoneyuser Its not that I am too much of a sportsman to f2, its that I unbound my f2 button in 2011 and I keep forgetting to bind it to something. Thank you for the words of encouragement.
Thank you for putting yourself out there for our enjoyment.
@@cyrusposting Personally I keep mine unbound and just click the button above the minimap if I really need it.

This was honestly one of the best concepts I've seen. Amazing to see this difference. Would have loved to see the start of the game too!
It’s not new. It’s called Disaster Saves
@@lelouchvibritannia7809 nice to apply the concept to a multiplayer rts against another opponent rather than a single player rts against an AI. Many times the way to save the campaign is to do a cheesey strat that the AI bugs out at. But tbf, harstem knows the strats that bug out lower level players like DTs and run bys.
@@lelouchvibritannia7809 cool, thx
This could be a series on its own! I love this idea. It's amazing to see how much is going on in some of those fights and how differently they can play out in just seconds
This was done in many games:
Starcraft:Broodwar, Chess, Counter strike.
People usually underestimate HOW hard it is to be at the top (in the 0.01%), not because they are arrogant, but because they are ignorant of all the things it takes to be at the top.
Suggestion: Select games that were played with some casters casting it. First play a short clip of the casters of the actual game, where they go like "ok, this game is over", and then start the game from that point where they declared the game being over. I feel like this would add big comedic value to the games. Good stuff - hope we see more of these.
For bonus point, bring the caster back in to cast the game with the new players.
Harstem should play the caster who said the game is over xD
Harstem says the game is over well before it actually ends in SO MANY of the games he casts. Have him take over there and see how it goes 😂
@@Fimbu1vetr Although the better casters would know how to win a won game.
@@miramosa7768 another idea: let the caster not cast but play themselves: They play the winning side, Kevin the losing one.
I love this concept! More like this, please. See if you can find an even harder end-game and make an even more awesome comeback, perhaps?
Hard mode would be taking over a Terran just before they gave up, considering how Terrans tend to overstay their welcome in long lost games 😆
As a Terran who doesn’t leave until he’s long long dead… yes

When I have the time... I like to wait as long as possible before finishing a dead Terran. Some, the few silly ones to be fair, keep trying so hard, it's hilarious, as if things like 3 BCs or 8 thors could win against a maxed out army. The best part... 1 wrote once that he was trolling, just purposely delaying, but then it was fun to watch the replay from his perspective and catch the lie!
Harstem is a godlike content creator.
Like we legit don't deserve someone this amazing.
I loved this so much ! To see the insane skill difference first hand is marvelous!
Reminds me of a video where Neeb and a bunch of pro's invaded Winter's room at the end of a lost game and Neeb almost brought it back from an insane deficit. Was incredible to witness.
This was *EXTREMELY* entertaining to watch! :O
Why wasn't this type of challenge for Harstem thought of earlier, and brought to action as *a* *series* ?
Especially after IODIS, BGMWSS, and Cheese got somewhat stale in the past few months.
Please, PLEASE make this into a series !!
That DT trap by the hatch and perfect bile shot made me feel a little proud about being D1
*Gold players watching this:* "Haha that guy is so bad, I would've totally won this."
Gold player a moves entire army and dies in 20 seconds
Incredible fight in that last game, would love to see more of this concept!
Good content. I think finishing with some analysis on what opponent needed to do better would be interesting.
This is so cool. Make this a series! It really shows how critical closing the game is.
without watching this is an amazing idea and i love it and you
2/3rds of the way through great content
3/3rds of the way through this was great thank you
Awesome idea. I would love to see the original game play out before we see you taking it over.
This is a fun concept!
Great concept! Would be fun to see the famous Idra vs Huk game replayed without a tapout.
so we can all remind idra of his bad decision.. lol
I want to see more of these^^ also: i would love to see the Captain doing holdout challenges like PiG^^
Please make it a series, this is fantastic!!! Pretty please.
This was a really interesting idea, hats off to the challenger
You're a content MACHINE!
I think this also shows the lack of situational awareness from lower ranked players. The correct move was just to attack as soon as the replay resumed for the most part I think, but they backed up and played without confidence.
This is a great format. Reminds me of the old Sim City Scenarios. Love to see more.
This is like Saving Disaster Campaigns EU4 challenges lul, I like it. Think about making it a permanent video category :)
This is awesome! Should be its own series or something
I completely forgot that this feature even existed. Even though now I also remember that when it came out, I was super hyped to play on from some pro games
great series idea, maybe just show the original game final 30 seconds or so for reference on what the pro player did to finish out the game.
This is a REALLY cool video concept.
Bold, brave and fun!
Screamingly obvious mistake by this player from his entry into the position. Since every cycle favors the better player, if you have a Scarlett level material advantage, you can't play it like chess (or like Scarlett), and slowly add to the advantage. This is not a turn-based game. Have to immediately go after one/two of Harstem's mining, production, or army. Especially important to hit before Harstem gets AOE units and AOE damage.
Instead Diamond retreated over and over again when he had a 3:1 army advantage. He attacked against battery on overdrive, and then retreated as soon as overdrive ran out. Ran back and forth through the same storm two-three times with same units.
The swarm hosts were actually correct for diamond player and kept him in the game longer, I think. But two Nydus should have been added for mobility close to your Nexi, to go for your economy and not wasting swarms chasing your units across the map side to side. The nydus can be in corners, as Harstem can't just run into the active swarm.
The name of this concept is called Disaster Saves. I didn’t think I’d see it in Starcraft but here we are
Cool challenge!! Great way to learn how to prioritize.
You should make this a regular series!
Absolutely vicious storms throughout
I think the interesting thing about this, is that as observers you had all the information, unlike the players
I don't think it's so much the bad control out of this diamond player but more the lack of aggression and an aggressive instinct, they just say 'oh he might have a big scary army I don't know about' because they're often either bad at scouting or bad at thinking about what they scout, or both.
Nah. The diamond player just knows he will be obliterated because of storms and batteries.
The games where they did attack they messed up the engage terribly and got wiped
My control is really bad but I think you're correct here. There were a lot of moments that were very scary from my perspective, but watching them back in the video they were completely winnable. The 20 mutas vs 6 stalkers for instance. I know on paper that 20 mutas beat 6 stalkers but in my head I was thinking "If I engage here I'm gonna get owned."
@@cyrusposting that and you want to trade when you are up in eco
Is it possible to do an archon mode with a 3v3. A changeling on each team? That might have potential.
But it might be overwhelming as a viewer watching 6 people. Or are you thinking only showing Harstems team?
Harstem 1v3 in normal archon mode. Harstem vs 2 silver players, with a third silver player fucking with harstem's units.
Hi Harstem! Great new format, I love it. I finally reinstalled the game after a 9 year absence because of your channel :)
It would be a dream to lose to you at some point!
Can we have a version where the pro player coaches the Harstem follower in game against Harstem? Ie, lambo or elazer telling the diamond how to play. Parting will be a peak meme because he will tell the diamond that he's getting cancer watching him
shut up
That 3rd game was just pure crisis management, really cool to see
3:40 Oh shit I'm really a Sc2 nerd now, I recognized this game. Not sure if I'm proud of myself or disappointed
I love this series of challenges from your fans
I’m not the biggest fan of yours, but do more of these. Loved the idea of the games and have now subscribed.
Wait, can you load game states, or did someone have to systematically recreate a game one unit/structure/upgrade at a time??
You can resume the replay of any game at any time as long as you have the actual replay file (for some custom games I think it can occasionally bug some things out, but for regular melee games it'll work fine).
@@asdfqwerty9241 I’ve had this game for so long and thought i could only view my replays. Amazing. Thanks!
@@moozoo82 had no idea this as possible.... crazy actually
Pretty good concept! wanna more this
While I tend to prefer caster Harstem to player Harstem, this was very entertaining and I hope for more content like it.
Could you play Huks position and MMAs position in Huk vs Idra and MMA vs Idra? Ideally you could get raynor, scarlett, or some pro zerg to play Idras position when Huk had a Hulluc army and MMA shot his own CC? I would love to see how those games might have ended :D
anybody else notice the random archon destroying his own building? :D
Not to rain on captain's parade and far from me trying to impact his self-healing process of dealing with such devastating losses, but i believe he has some advantages here. Firstly, the worse the opponents are, they will have tougher time in first 15-30-60 seconds after the match starts, since they need to control army they didnt make, need to allign command structures and production buildings and hotkey everything properly. You can clearly see how in first half a minute at least they dont proceed to attack, mind something else etc. Secondly, Harstem knows the position and situation, so he knows vectors of attack etc. Sure, its incredible to see him managing the defence, but all I am trying to say is its not that ridiculous and below-diamond players will certainly have a lot of trouble immediately after the match starts.
i love this concept. classic z mistake, 3rd game he overcommited to mutas despite only being able to manage one group
This brilliant. More of this.
I'd also be interested to see the reverse of this. With you + 2 viewers of different ranks, you play a macro focused build against one viewer (higher rank) for the first 6-8 minutes of the game then the other viewer (lower rank) takes over. Watch how it plays out and test the claim that players can get high rank with just solid macro.
Make this taking over a series, please!
Maybe you could also try this the other way. low rank viewers send games that have weird situations and you and another pro can resume from replay!
Is it imba or do I suck with pro gamer takeovers. That could get pretty weird. All the bets are off.
This deserve a new series
this is the new format for imba complaints: "XY is so op in this game even i would beat you here" then you challenge it and show how difficult it really is
I’m a similar mmr to your opponent and feel like I could have won in all of this situations. Why wouldn’t he just attack at the start? His delay in these games was killer! He had an insane lead, the longer the game goes the closer it gets…..
Since the opponent didn't have the vision on Harstem's (or Astrea's) army as we did, probably they still thought there would be storms so just directly running the whole army into storms would also feel like giving up the game...
how does this man keep coming up with these bangers, keep it up!
One thing I would love to see is links and time stamps to these actual games and how they finished pro v pro
This format is sick
Cheese nuggie challenging the gouda
Imagine a show match where players have the ability to rewind 5 minutes and try again, maybe 3 times your out type deal?
How did you replicate the games?
Really like this idea!
that was lots of fun!
Incredible. Does this prove micro is the most important mechanic?
It annoys me that the opponent should've won every game if he just A-moved right from the start and not just sit in his base waiting for Harstem to max out and walk over him.. :D
Yeah especially the last game. It was really infuriating that he had like 20 Mutas and just did ... nothing. No harass, no all out attack no spread them out to defend bases against DTs. Just literally nothing. Waited like 5 minutes to let Harstem make runbys and probe up.
@@Karttibone lets see you try!
I imagine it's hard to make the decision to take a fight immediately when all of your hotkeys are messed up.
@@frugs9164 and that's exactly what F2 is for :D
@frugs I'd honestly be less annoyed if he flew the the mutas in and they would all die to some stalker micro but just doing nothing while on a maxed army just has me head scratching. I'm not saying I would have won, I likely would have just mindlessly thrown away units and taken bad trades but atleast I would take trades. Even with messed up hotkeys you can box your units and a move them somewhere. 2 controlgroups is all you need.
Is this a new thing? How are they taken command of games that have already been played by someone else?
there we have 3 case studies for iiiodis xD
i don't think even if you give a gold or below player a scenario where it's 7 bases vs 3 bases vs any pro they can win, the difference in mechanics and knowledge is way too big at this level things are done way too slowly, workers are almost never re-built and F2 A-move rules, not dissing it but a silver player is in the range of 2k mmr, that's a 4k+ mmr difference, i think it'd be cooler to see 'till which caliber of player you can still reverse games, Like in one man army.
12:25 the game was over. That’s where the advantage fell and the MMR took over. You think it’s 16 but it’s not.
Like watching winter play ladder and when still in lower leagues, loosing all his bases because he isn't paying attention, flying to the other side of the map then rebuild and win haha.
I'm a silver player who would be super down for this--except after watching this I'm fairly confident I would lose no matter what lololol
You could also create maps and premade units and play them out against people. Almost like campaign missions, but youre playing the "missions" against real people
So this is how a new CEO lost a decades old empire within years.
I think I can take you out. Never played starcraft before but watching you makes me wanna beat you haha. Protis v protis?
This was a cool challenge
You should play 3 people but you start with a natural. 🔥
impressive stuff capitan
When did this became possible? Was it always available, or is this a new mod?
Take over from replays, always possible.
Really cool idea! :D
How can you get to be on this? I would love to try haha I'm 4k at highest
thi is really interesting to see captain
although the zerg is suck, and Harstem shows his great idea and concept of the game. The third match was close to losing the game if the muta attacked the four stalkers or killed some probe. it is really close if the opponent kept on harassment
GGwp for Harsterm😁
There should be long expensive tier 3 upgrade that halves workers supply cost.
awesome concept
the game should start immediately when you gg instead of before it
you do have a slight advantage of being familiar with what you're working with while the diamond player is jumping into someone else's shoes
Harstem is jumping into someone else's shoes as well. Just not the first match
I know it's easier said than done, but he simply seemed to be playing way to passive. Taking over a game one the cusp of victory vs a pro means every passing second lowers your chance of victory
On one hand I agree, on the other the reason the pro player ggs is because it's over the when you are down 100 supply you shouldn't be able to win
Playing too passive is how games look at diamond and even worse bellow. Players just take their time, and here it also was the intimidation factor.
The guy should submit IMBA request for DT xD
Plat 1 player (after i havent played since WOL), my MMR is abouit 3100, i just got back to playing and I will never lose the last game (the scarlett one) vs u, no chance. he threw all the way with the mutas, and could take out your economy really early but he didnt commit.
The way this diamond player is losing my unlosable positions is honestly riling me up
this is great :D
How is he setting these games up?
sometimes I wonder, which league I would be. just never really played versus in sc2. only a bit, early WOL. but this looked like you didnt need much micro skill, just max on a big enough armee and go on multiple sides
Loved this!!!
