I remember the browser wars in the 2000s, was insane to write a web page for IE. Firefox and chrome, also safari. Opera. At the end , in late 2010s all decided to join forces and create one unique government, ahem, browser engine that everyone can use, so more standardized web development. Now in mid 2020s a new browser tries to fit into the market? I wonder what the new future will be for web browsers. Terri taught us a lot with TempleOS, lets wish the best for ladybid

It's a very easy transition to make, since all you'd need to transfer over is bookmarks, browsing history and maybe passwords (please don't use the built in password manager in the browser, the data there is really easy to steal).

Main problem with browser monopoly is that you have to either mimic chromium engine 1:1 or make web developers support your engine. Probably close to 1% of the modern internet doesn't work properly on Firefox, because no one cared to test it. It's already bad when we have just 3 browsers and IMO Ladybird has very low chances to make it 4.

Sometime between 2006 and 2008, I wrote in JavaScript a text parser similar to a BBCode parser to try to parse really simple HTML (like, HTML 2, HTML 3 style text) and render it using the Sphere Game Engine. Back then, Sphere only had bitmap font rendering with color overlaying rather than TrueType/OpenType font rendering, so I had to manually add visual formatting like boldfacing (by doubling and offsetting), italicizing (by skewing the bitmaps), and resizing. Studying the engine's source code for rendering textboxes, as well as the source for its Windows-only TrueType-to-bitmap font converter, gave me greater appreciation for the kind of work that browsers have to do even for the simple function of rendering legible text.

@@PixyEm I think they made a rather bad take on deplatforming, which some people found disagreeable. Nothing ever came from it other than Mozilla getting roasted. It was a while ago, though, so my memory is fuzzy, and I'm not sure that's what OP is referring to.
Also I'm just explaining, I personally disagree but whatever. I'm not OP.

I have been on Firefox since I could use a computer. The fact that this comes from serenity OS is cool and I like having another non-chrome option

I remember being able to feed myself back when there was no internet. Yeah, I had a mullet and drank water from a garden hose, but we survived!
