      Here is a good tip nooblets seemed to have missed, if you use cactus broth you won't spook him, and you wont aggro anything while you tame him, makes the whole thing very easy. Same for any other passive tame in the game, so few people use cactus broth but its extremely powerful. You can also just spam a wooden cage on him to keep him in place and build a stone structure around it to keep him safe.

  • @reydragonclaw1128
    @reydragonclaw1128 2 года назад +4

    I know these new taming methods are pretty frustrating, but once you get the hang of it it's actually very cool and refreshing. You aren't brutally sticking it with tranqs and feeding it until it loves you, you're not handfeeding it at a petting zoo, you're actually bonding with it and it makes sense. The passive tames make sense too, but I like that this animal has a personality and a level of intelligence. It makes the game much more... real?

    As far as taming mechanics, another thing you want to watch is that you don't touch them, even when they land and come up to you. This will cause them to go into the same panic mode as when you chase them and get too close. Thus, it is always a good idea to crouch when you feed them and even back up a little bit when they accept the feed so that they have room to clear you when they take off. As mentioned in the video, just don't back up too quickly or too far because that, too, can panic them.
    For that same reason, be aware of the terrain when they approach you. The basic mechanic is that they will fly a specific distance from you, land, then hop the rest of the way towards you. From my observations, it appears that the distance from you where the landing animation kicks in is based on proximity to you and altitude. This distance is ideal for when you are standing flat ground. If, as with many of the feedings in the video, you are on a slope and they have to land above you, that is okay because they will be closer to the ground when they go to land. However, if you are on a slope and they have to land below you, this can create a problem. This is because the land is falling away from you in their direction so it will take them much longer to land, meaning they will keep moving towards you as they are trying to land. This, in turn, risks them getting too close or bumping you before they touch down, either of which can trigger the panic mode. Even if they do land and you are able to fed them, you will be on the slope above them when they take off. This means there is, again, a greater chance they will bump into you as they leave causing them to panic.
    If you cannot avoid them being on a slope with them below you, be prepared to back up some to give them room to land. Also try to move away from them at an angle so that you are not just moving up the slope. Just remember to not move too quickly or for too long as this can also spook them. In either case, if they are on a slope below you, you really need to be crouched when you feed them and move back as they take off to make sure they have room to clear you.

    If they are over the water, following them on a raft worked for me to get a high level one. The raft does not scare them, and they can land on it when you stop driving it.

    Most definitely fits description of a "passive" tame. Don't be too active or you will never succeed. Basically tame like a cat in minecraft.

    To anyone who it may apply to: You don't need to keep your distance for around 100 meters or so - Feed it - Let it fly - Wait for it to land again - Go within 10 meters of it - Hearts will come - And it will come to you for feeding - Repeat until tamed!

      @@DogMakingSausage - Not sure! But my best guess is: Yes! :) Just leave your tame around in case you get attacked or need it - I tamed mine while I had my wyvern on the ground around the area :)

    I'm having a lot of trouble taming these. My experience is that they will fly into cliff and get stuck and stay stuck. The after a while the taming will start dropping to zero and won't stop. Or they will run out of food, loose health and die. If I approach under 50m and they turn and see me moving they will scare and shoot off. If they do heart's and your moving towards them, even for a second they will scare. I've twice been bumped towards them by a passing passive Dino and it scared them off. I have tamed a lv15. But haven't repeated it or gotten over 30% since. On PC the cage does not work. It says they must be outside. The touches and wood sign don't work because it say obstructed do you can not place them close enough. I've spent over 10hrs trying for a opposite sex low level to breed them. I'm now trying 1x1 high tower with wood benches at the top.

      I'm having similar challenges. they won't return after 1st feed even if I stay around 100M. I've had a few land with hearts but scare off if my flyer is too close by. the jungle at monkey temple is swarming with troodons, raptors and therys making the foot chase a battle that also scares them off. I'm still working the puzzle on this one

    • @moozoowizard
      @moozoowizard 2 года назад +1

      Update, they patched so the tame progression dropping after get to half food no longer occurs. While taming the chitin you give them doesn't cover their food loss which means with lower level ones you have less time to tame them. All that said they still fly into cliffs and stay stuck while their food drops to zero. Their heads seem to clip into the cliff so they don't see you even when they are hungry. Also if the cliff has an overhang, no matter how high up, it can say they need to be outside and they get grumpy and fly off. Before the patch I upped my taming to x3 , tamed a level 20 female and then put the taming back to x1. I then breed 5 of them . Low level I know but they mostly do what I need them for.
