    I'm really enjoying this update. I've always loved RaceRoom for the physics and FFB but with this update I finally feel like I have rubber operating beneath me. That being said, at some point, KW Studios needs to pull the plug on this ancient game engine and move forward with something new. It is long past time for this sim to get into the 21st century. This sim needs to add night and bad-weather racing to compete with the rest of the sims on the market. I think the game still looks good enough (and it's pretty awesome in VR, surprisingly) but they really need to be planning for the future of the title. They can't just keep going down this path much longer.

      I don't think day/night cycle and weather changes will be beneficial for Raceroom when we are talking about player base. Neither moving to a new engine and making it shiny. What it is right now is absolutely enough. A strong and stable base with everything you need to have a good time. It's kinda old school for sure but that's not a bad thing in my eyes. It serves like a filter, the peeps who stay know why they are staying.
      PS: I absolutely love Raceroom

      @@sshoveitt Honestly, it doesn't matter to me. I'm not a big fan of night or bad weather racing but, it is a sticking point for a lot of sim racers. That being said, the engine R3E is built on is ANCIENT and they are overdue for an upgrade.

    First time on your channel and great video.
    Coming from rFactor 2 I think RaceRoom feels very realistic from what I expect from my real world racing experience. There seems to be enough guys on to have decent public races, infact I had some stunning races already.
    My community Sim Experience SA plan on hosting a MX5 championship in RaceRoom as that car is superb.
    Looks wise, in VR it's stunning but flat screen it lacks the polish of new Sims. It still drives amazing though, very impressed with the updates.

    I started playing raceroom shortly after this update and I am completely hooked on it... It's amazing the product that sector 3 and KW have produced! Also I kind of like the graphics as they are... They are simple, they feel very organic and they allow you to focus on what reality matters, the driving. I actually prefer these tipes of graphics like Raceroom, Rfactor 2 and I Racing more than the shinier Acc and automobilista 2 (they a lot brighter and end up feeling a lot more "digital")

    When I tried the new FFB 2 months ago with a belt drive wheel, I was disappointed. After I purchase a direct drive wheel a few weeks ago. I tried RR again and oh boy, it is the best ffb for DD wheel I ever tried. The way it handles the force, the rotation of the wheel, cut the wheel power on crash is amazing. For the first time, I don't have to think about setting my DD wheel to tried not to lose a finger. RR had the best gear and belt driven wheel with their old FFB, now they did it again, this time for direct drive. They are truly the best at it.

    Haveent played RR in over a year and saw that the recently redid the tires so gave it another shot. I definitly feel that I can rotate the car pretty easy by lifting off the throttle but perhaps I may need to tweak the default setup as rotating with the brakes doesnt come on as as easily as it does in other sims. In the FF dept, I really dont feel much of anything going on. Still playing around with settings and I'm running an ancient wheel which might be why things feel so dead to me so perhaps a direct drive setup might help. Funny how different sims have different things and as simracers we have to hop from one to another searching for something a particular title does better. Not sure if sound alone will keep me racing in RR but it is fantastic. Oh, and I just love seeing the brake rotors glowing during hard braking. That's one of my guilty pleasures and I dont know how common it is to see that happen in real life races as I'm able to trigger that on every corner in the sim. I'm going to give VR a shot but graphically, I'm seeing lots of aliasing at max settings so I have a feeling that this might look as bad as ACC in VR. iRacing is still the best in that dept.

    I do love raceroom and I wish there was a bigger user base for online ranked racing but at the end of the day this is a niche hobby with a limited amount of players, many flock to GT and FM arcades and only few stick to realistic simulation due to the hardware barrier to entry. With new sims coming out everyone hoping for some holy grail to unify the community the user base gets divided into smaller pockets for each sim title.

    I just fired this up again after doing a fresh pc build... I know I'm running on an old wheel (original fanatec csr for forza) but I can't get good tire feedback through the wheel. The chassis/suspension feel is great, but the moment of tire slip is odd. I went into the wheel ffb config file and adjusted the tire slip effect and wave form trying tons of combinations, but ultimately tire slip is transmitted by inducing a vibration effect instead of the steering wheel going light/limp. Typically racing in the real world the light steering g is what I've experienced, and vibration from scrubbing is more surface dependent. Is there anything that can be done to improve this? It's less an accurate portrayal of steering wheel forces and more of a tire slip vibration alarm.
    Also, is there no way to display tire temps in game? I race mostly older cars that don't have the indash display. I feel like I'm going crazy not finding the button or hud element to switch on for such a basic piece of info.

    • @dnalord77

      Re grading tyre temp, suggest to implement otterhud. Brilliant HUD with plenty of displays. Works via crew chief.

    • @Krautastic
      @Krautastic 9 месяцев назад

      @@dnalord77 thanks! I had heard of otterhud in other comments but got the impression that it was run on an accessory like a tablet or phone for dedicated rigs. I installed that and I have tire temps and condition. Fantastic. Why such a useful thing isn't just in the game to begin with is crazy.
      I did find how to get tire temps in game, it involves turning on the digital display to full in the hud menu, and then assigning a next page button to scroll to the tire temps page. Otterhud is infinitely more useful with tire temp as a blue to red scale and inner/outer bands. It's also nice to have dirty tire info, since the rock chatter disappears before the tire is actually fully clean.
      I still think ffb can be lacking, but after a few hours in game you can really get into it and only notice what's lacking when jumping into AC or AMS2 from R3E and you experience those tire effects in those titles.

    • @sur6e
      @sur6e 8 месяцев назад

      ReHUD is another. What you describe is possibly a wheel mechanism issue. I started realizing that the belt or cog driven wheels (that I used for many years) are too slow in giving you the feedback you need. So the moment in which you need the feedback has already passed by the time the wheel can give it to you. I upgraded to a Moza R9 direct drive and it's so good now.

    I'm hoping that KW Studios get the new game engine and code bought up to date asap. There hasn't been a dev update since the Traxion interview 13 months ago. With weather and day/night in other stuff I own, I just got bored rigid of fine dry lapping. I've hardly used it in the last 3-4 years. It's not been installed for a while. I own most dlc though. Sadly, to me the graphics and modern CPU/GPU optimized code is long overdue. Once they complete the work required to make it modern, then I hope to return. Time will tell.

      some graphics updates coming soon, u can see the difference in recent trailers of BMW Pack and Portimao rework that were made on test build but there basically is no chance for rain or even night since this engine doesn't support light sources atm so the headlights just doesn't work - I don't like to drive under both these conditions so I don't care about them but I agree that things like that would bring more people to this sim especially since endurance races is basically most popular thing atm so even if driving in it feels amazing people won't join without it

      @DanDiMaggio  9 месяцев назад

      @@marquisegoodwin2481 No worries. Yeah OBS is a finicky program. You're 4090 should have no issues recording it though. I know every OBS tutorial says to run the OBS output tab in "advanced" mode but I get far better results running it in Simple mode. Try these settings and see if it helps.
      Output Tab/Simple
      Rec Path: any hard drive different from where the game you're playing is stored
      Rec Qual: High Qual, Med File Size
      Rec Format: MKV, it will be a more sharp & detailed video
      Video Encoder: If you are at 5120x1440 you will have to use NVENC, HEVC (H.265). H.264 doesn't support that large of a pixel count. If you're at 3840x1080 you can use H.264 and OBS likes that one better. H.265 works too though and it's technically better quality but obs isn't optimized for it yet
      Aud Enc: AAC
      Under Video Tab:
      Make base canvas and output the same (5120x1440 or 3840x1080). Don't downscale by making these values different. It causes issues. If your monitor is 1440 and you want to record at 1080, make both the base and output canvas 3840x1080. Then right click on your source, transform/reset transform, then transform/fit to screen. That will resize your original image into the 1080 frame without the GPU having to do any scaling in the background while it's recording. It's the same as moving and resizing a webcam around which has no effect on the gpu demands.
      Try these out: It may not be butter smooth but it should at least net usable video.
      The other thing I would say is, confirm that the videos you've recorded are in fact dropping frames and it's not simply that your media player is having a hard time playing back the videos live because the files are so large. That certainly does happen sometimes. Try using something like VLC media player. It's free and can handle large files pretty easily. Windows media player and stuff like that are not optimized to smoothly play large files so they will look like they are stuttering. Sorry this was so long but I hope it helps!
