Most definitely a good day. It's real nice when a river float comes together so well. The quality of fish you and Josh were catching was superb. It does take a bit longer to catch some fish, but the overall quality of fish in the fall is amazing. My recent river trip netted 27 fish. Several small strippers and a whole bunch of bluegill. 6 of the bluegill were over 1lb.
That was pure awesome, this month is 1 of the best months to catch smallies, 2 yrs ago on black Friday me & my brother caught our pb's mine was a 5.5lbs & my brothers was a 5.3, nothing can compare to smallies fresh water that is, you need to fish that river more often!
Excuse a stranger for asking, but what kind of lure (or bait) were you using, when you caught your P. B. Small mouth Bass? As for me, my biggest Smallmouth Bass was 4 pounds, and 18 Inches long. It's been so long ago, that I forgot what I used to catch him, but it may have been a Panther Martin Spinner, the bigger size that you can use to get Bass on. Panther Martin Spinners are some of my favorite lures to use. If I fish a Minnow, I love the Rapala 4 inch Black over Gold Floating Minnow. I live in Virginia, and they're kinda hard to find, and if ya do find one, they're fairly expensive nowadays, but they're worth it. Finally, I love working with a 2 1/2-3 inch long Berkeley Gulp Minnow. The Bass love 'em! Have a great day!

As for Rods and Reels, I only use the Shakespeare Brand Reels, and I only use Shakespeare Ugly Stik Rods. As for the Rods, I have 3 Medium-Weight Rods, a 6 Ft., 2-Piece Setup, that I've got to fix a Big Eyelet on, a 6 1/2 Ft., 2-Piece Setup that I use a Regular Shakespeare Reel on, that is equipped with 10 Lb Power Pro Braided Line, and a 7 Ft., 1-Piece Straight-Through Setup, equipped with a rather new Shakespeare Reel, and spooled with 6 Lb. Stren Lo-Vis Clear Line. It's absolutely great to have a small selection of equipment to work with. That way, if one breaks, you've got a backup setup to go to. I was in the Boy Scouts, when I was a lot younger, and, of course, their motto is:Be prepared!

That was the kind of fishing the upper James had thirty years ago. Now it's full of dinks but there was a time! Thirty a trip was like my quota. 3 and 4 pdrs were common. MAN how I miss those days but I thank God above that I experienced it. This was a reminiscent video for me! THANKS JOHN

John, what you may want to look into is to equip your kayak with a Min Kota trolling motor with Spotlock. Check out some of John Skinner's videos from Florida. Juggling the oar in that current, while fighting the fish looks real uncomfortable.

He didn't catch any other kind of fish... just them Ol' Smallmouth Bass. Usually, out on a trip like this, he'll end up catching a Bluegill or two, or some Crappie or Rock Bass. Not this time! Straight-up Smallmouth Bass, from start to finish. Have you been doing alright? I sure hope so. I've been doing pretty good here lately myself. God has definitely been good to me! It's hard to fish I'm that current. You look like a dnr in all that green. I used only fish yum dinners in Kansas for smallmouth. Cheaper than senkos, but senkos are better. Top creator of fishing content on RUclips for sure. Don't change keep it up.

Hey you should try the Googan drag and drop in the smallest size which is 4 inch I'm not a big Googan baits fan but the ones I mentioned work great in small bodies of water throw em Texas rig weightless on a small ewg hook and work them like a fluke
