Aqui estava a magia, joguei mto. Essa versão foi meu primeiro contato com o CM, lembro que escolhi o St Etienne mas não me lembro o motivo... fiquei 3 temporadas no comando e consegui montar um time de bom nível técnico no último ano mas fui desclassificado da champions pelo Barça. Foi uma campanha mto boa, peguei o time na 2ª divisão, subimos pra 1ª, dps de 2 anos classificamos pra Champions, perdemos pro Barça. O resto não me lembro, rs....Que jogo meus amigos!

I remember playing this game at my grandma and grandpa's place (may they both RIP) back in 1998 on a computer with 256kb RAM. I was seven years old, and I'm still playing FM twenty tears later. Great memories. I was a Barcelona fan then and still am.

@@tillbot8 Sonny Anderson was really strong in the 90s. I think my favorite player from those days was Denilson from Real Betis. His dribbling was out of this world.

Wow this takes me back. Time well spent. When Owen first emerged with lightning pace and 20 finishing and Gazza had 8 pace but could land the ball on 5p piece - as well as take all the set pieces
Taribo West, one of the best defenders on there for free, Nigeria's side then was immense

Does anyone no how I get the version there Bayern Münich have wine red and white homedress and for example Gary Speed played for Everton and not for Newcastle. Wich version is that?
IIRC CM2 was season 95/96 then there was CM2 96/97 and this one, CM2 97/98. Next one was CM3, featuring season 98/99.

Juventus had an excellent squad and plenty pulling power, but they had a shithole ground that brought in feck all revenue.
Pick Barca, mega ground, pretty balanced squad - buy a keeper and a defender, and hope you're able to recruit Henry and the regenerated Papin.
For those using DOSBOX suffering from speed issues hold down CTRL+F8 when experiencing slowdown to increase frame skipping. Usually solves the problem. Hope this helps.

Omg this could be the answer i have been lioking for.
So when i used to play this on a current spec pc at the the time.. to get from 0-100% at 2% increments would take around 40 seconds. Then years later i installed the game on an xp laptop. I could run it on xp and not need to use dosbox.
The game speed on that laptop was unreal. 0-100% at 2% increments would take about 2 or 3 seconds. As a result i got to about season 8 which was the furthest i ever got and it only took about 3 weeks playing a couple of hours a day. Then that laptop died.
Ever since then on the occasion id download and have a play of cm9798 i have had to use dosbox. And it would be the same painfully slow load times when processing results etc.
I hope you are correct about holding ctrl+F8. And i hope this is what you mean by speeding it up. Id like to try and complete the 30th season of this game!!

Holy shit i NEVER knew this game came with an editor!!! I've been looking for a early Champ manager game with an editor for as long as i can remember!
And better yet, I just found this game in my old stash of games i had bought and failed to get working on my modern pc, I literally have an old windows XP pc coming tomorrow that should run this game with no issues! SUPER happy 😁😁😁😁
You can also run it in Dosbox. The experience is fair and the speed is definitely better when calculating the other matches or the end of the season.
@@Squakenet are there any tactics that allow your strikers or forwards to score LOADS of goals do you know please mate?

@@TheHungryTrollRawr No, not really. I guess it depends a lot on the players you have in the squad. I generally try to buy players to perform a 4132, with a defensive midfilder in from of the defense.

Nearly failed my higher school certificate because of this game, time well spent 😂
I remember managing Arsenal in this game and buying Ibrahima Bakayoko and another player called Rai (think he used to play for PSG) both players would regularly get hatricks in games and regularly got Man of the match performances. Bakayoko even scored two goals for me in a 2-1 away win at Barcelona and got me a last minute equaliser at Old Trafford!

+Squakenet hey i was gonna ask you if you get the same problem during a match why is there no sound on 97/98 were as 95/96 and 96/97 you had the option of commentary on or off ? i was just wonderin if you have same problem aswell...and dynamo kiev striker andriy shevchenko is spelt andrily sevchenko and his age is allways different when ever you start new game i play mines on the dosbox

Nostalgic… great memories … played it nonstop when i was 15 .. built a very strong Juventus team with brilliant Italian and Uruguayan talented young players
The best was to select a 4th tier UK team and make them win the Champions League.
The best I managed with a team from 2nd division was to reach the final of UEFA cup and losing it. Never managed to reach that level (still, :P).

If you mean in the match against Padova, it was Coppa Italia. I always used that competition to let second line players get some shape.
Nearly didn't pay off lol I used to love playing as Juventus. Always loved watching them on Ch4 on a Sunday.

@@Squakenet Theres actually a video called 'the end of cm9798' by a guy called david black. Its searchable or probably scrollable down from this subject. Its only 3 odd mins long. Its just a frustratingly boring message. Though i suppose i got to say i completed the game. Id never seen earlier versions of this game and its interesting to see you've got a '93 version up which looks 'ancient' lol even compared to 97/98.

ok im having serious issues at the moment and so far noone can help. i used to play this on a laptop in 2006 which has since died. The operating system at the time was XP and there was no need for dosbox. Im currently playing it with dosbox on a pentium dual core laptop with 2.2ghz... nothing fancy just a laptop i use for invoices. Anyhow... like i said im using dosbox and cm9798 is running really slow. Ive tried most if not all cycle settings while in the game and to be honest it doesnt actually make a difference. What can i do? So far noone has been able to help!
you can try playing with dosbox configuration file, trying to add more memory to the emulated machine, for instance
ok. thats something ill have to google because all though im not completely useless, i wouldnt know how to do that by myself without instruction.. hint hint nudge nudge. haha
Did you solve the problem already? If not, there's a way to bump up how many cycles dosbox emulates per second, although it has been years since I last used it, so I don't remember exctly the keys, but I guess it is on of last function keys, try from F9 to F12 and see what it does. There's some documentation on the doxbox folder, I think the read-me explains the basics of it. Anyway, I hope you find out.
+Leopoldo Aranha yeah tried all that. it helps a little but not a great deal. it takes me about 2 weeks of playing 3 hours every day so about 42-48 gaming hours to complete a season. everyone else does a season in about 6 hours.
